Excellent editing and review, not so great when it comes to questions. Update (09/10/2025):

I ordered a review from NextAdmit, and my essay was assigned to Natalie Bassini. Her comments and overviews were amazing - she noticed details and things that I wouldn't have, and it made a genuine difference in how my essay would be perceived. I'm really grateful to her for how she took time to make such small and thoughtful comments. I even received the essay 2 days early, which was a really nice gesture.

However, there are some comments that weren't that clear to me, and I reached out 5 days ago to improve my understanding and for a small piece of advice on my essay. However, I have received no response. I completely understand that this is a busy time for essay review services, but I used NextAdmit because of the good reviews and most importantly the support and communication I can receive after getting my edits, because I want to understand why changes were made, but I haven't received anything, and that's disappointing. I really hope this issue can be resolved, because Natalie's comments and overview were nothing less than perfect, but no support leaves me hanging when it comes to improving my essay.

Update:
Mahad Khan (COO and Co-Founder) contacted me after seeing my review, and offered a complimentary essay review, which was completed within two days. It was perfect, with everything I needed and all my questions answered. This was an amazing gesture, and Julie, the person who reviewed my essay, was excellent and very professional, offering edits to the smallest details and gave me a very detailed overview. A 10/10 service for me.

Most editors are great

I ran into two editors who clearly were not up to par, and it caught me off guard.

Case 1: Incomplete and Dismissive Editorial Review

I submitted a 625-word Common App essay and, 3 days later, an abridged 500-word version for a BSMD program. Both went to Georgia Severson. While she provided line-by-line edits for the BSMD version, she didn't provide any edits for the Common App essay.

When I asked politely, “Please send me edits for the Common App (650 words). Thank you,” Georgia replied, "they were basically the same with some extra words in the Common App that made it less concise and I would have deleted them anyway...I am very confused how it would be helpful for me to edit the two very similar drafts you uploaded - I would just being doing the same thing twice." It seems she considered the 125-word difference negligible. To me, that is a significant change; otherwise, I would not have submitted two separate orders.

Her line-by-line editing is cursory and doesn’t account for word count.
Commenting, “Often, you can convey the same meaning more effectively with fewer words,” she cut five words down to one.
This adjustment works in a 500-word essay, where every word must be trimmed. But in a 650-word essay, the change is unnecessary—and it flattens the visceral imagery that gave the sentence its punch.

Also, the essays had different goals: the Common App essay was intended to reach the 650-word limit and include a general conclusion, whereas the BSMD version required a school-specific conclusion. Each deserved its own thorough review.

It's clear from our interaction Georgia didn't fully understand why I was frustrated. Her communication throughout the process was limited and dismissive.

Case 2: Lack of Contextual Awareness and Accuracy; Inability to Use Professional Voice

Izzie Rose Allydice commented that my transitions were “confusing,” yet a professional editor later confirmed the progression was crystal clear—suggesting that Izzie may have skimmed rather than fully engaging with the essay’s structure and flow.

As supporting evidence for this, her suggested rewrite was inappropriate for the essay’s age and tone. She changed my line,

“I still felt detached,”

to

“I still felt detached—as though I was something to be studied, like a specimen or an MCAT problem.”

This revision makes no developmental or contextual sense. The scene describes my hospitalization at age 11, long before I would have even known what the MCAT is. The MCAT is an exam for medical students, not something BS/MD applicants—or certainly 11-year-olds—would reference. Including it breaks the authenticity of the child’s perspective.

Izzie also commented:
“For your last example – your job shadow with *** – you're not even talking about something you may have done to help a patient (like ***), but something you watched someone else do. I'm not sure whatever benefit could've been added to this essay by this anecdote outweighs the fact that you're sharing someone else's very vulnerable moment, especially so late in the essay.”

This reads dismissive and evaluative rather than constructive. Editors should critique the writing choices, not imply moral or emotional judgment.

A competent editor would phrase it more professionally, like:
“Since this moment centers on another person’s experience, consider whether including it strengthens your narrative voice or shifts focus away from your personal growth.”

The moment I read her comment, I realized she lacked the competence expected of an editor.

Great Customer Service:
Each time, Mahad Khan (COO and Co-Founder) reached out to me personally, offered a sincere apology, and reassigned my essay to another editor and/or refunded. The majority of the editors are great, and I will continue to work with them. As a result of nice recoveries, I will change my rating from 1 to 5.

NextAdmit gave me the confidence and resources I needed to succeed.

NextAdmit gave me the confidence and help I needed to successfully become a QuestBridge National College Match Finalist in 2024. I had a really challenging upbringing, and I seriously had no idea how I wanted to articulate my experiences and what they taught me in a college essay.

If it were not for the wonderful consultants at NextAdmit, I genuinely do not think I would be where I am today.

Even though I did not end up matching through QuestBridge, I still got into a Top 15 school in Massachusetts.

Friendly and Professional Counselling

The essay review was really in-depth and quite honest as well, which exhibited the adeptness of the counselor. My experience with online counseling calls was also commendable as the counselor remained actively engaged in the discussion and cleared all of my queries and doubts efficiently.

Does not review essays on time. Edit: Customer support rocks

I paid extra money to have my essay edited in 1 day, because it was somewhat urgent. It took more than 2 days edit: received my order and feedback was satisfactory but still unhappy about the lateness edit2: I did recieve a partial refund of 20% edit3: although i was a bit unhappy with the late edit, the edits way exceeded my expectations and I was offered a free essay review during RD. Overall, I am extremely happy with the outcome.

Overall, worth it!

My instructor's advice was helpful and certainly resulted in a better essay. However, it was difficult being told that my entire essay needed to be rewritten, without being given a clear direction in which I should go with it. I also think there should be a greater discount on the second review since they're needed so often, but as a broke high school student, $60 dollars isn't exactly affordable. Additionally, I would've liked an email when the instructor had my review complete. For some reason, I didn't get one, and I was really confused when the 7-day turnaround passed, and I had yet to hear from them. On a more positive note, the chat feature that allowed me to contact my reviewer and ask questions was super helpful.

Worth it!!

Alexandra's review was very helpful and thorough. I think she explained each point in my essay where I could provide clarity, strengthen my writing, and further prove personal growth from the experience I had. Both her in line edits and overall review at the end were very specific, and I will for sure use them when editing!

After crossing the deadline which was 1-day turnaround delivery, I was extended an extra 1 day, but still, 1 PIQ has not been turned in to me.

I singed up for 1 day turnaround time, after 1 day they mailed that 2 PIQ will take more than 1 day, which is an extension of 1 day. It's been 2 days but I still haven't got mine 1 PIQs yet. I am super disappointed about it. First of all, they assured me my mailing that it will al be done by today. Secondly, what's the point of me giving extra money for 1 day turnover when I am not getting 1 PIQ in 2 days?
