We recently engaged Mrs Muscle Cleaning to perform a deep clean on the home of a relative who was going through a difficult time and whose space needed some extra care and attention. From the very beginning, their team was professional, compassionate, and incredibly thorough.

The transformation was remarkable. Not only did they leave the home spotless, but they also treated the space — and the situation — with genuine respect and kindness. It was clear they truly care about the people they’re helping, not just the job itself.

Quite expensive. Agreed verbally to do work which was not completed on the day. Not a good option for landlords seeking to have their properties cleaned, as the company is defensive when challenged and will not share images of their work. Demonstrated poor understanding of property rights.

Meantime, note the extraordinarily unprofessional, passive-aggressive response below. Rather than offering to resolve the issues which the customer has raised with their work, by means of appropriate dispute resolution and customer satisfaction procedures, the business denies all responsibility and makes personal attacks against the customer. This conduct is truly remarkable and warrants further investigation.

Disclosing private customer information on a public forum is highly inappropriate. The initial response actually threatened legal action! Such intimidating responses have been made to other customers who left negative reviews, which the business does its utmost to bury. I strongly caution members of the public against dealing with this business. I would describe the experience, fittingly, as toxic.

Below, I have compiled some information which may be helpful to others who have had similar experiences.

WHAT ACTIONS MAY AGGRIEVED CUSTOMERS TAKE?

Fortunately, there exists a robust suite of legislation which aims to protect the rights of Australian consumers. Schedule 2 of the Competition and Consumer Act 2010 (Cth) sets out the Australian Consumer Law (ACL). Chapter 2, Part 2 of the ACL deals with misleading or deceptive conduct (Pt 2-1) and unconscionable conduct (Pt 2-2).

Pursuant to s 22(1)(d) of the ACL, a court may take into account whether a supplier exerted undue influence or pressure on a customer or a person acting on behalf of a customer in relation to the supply of goods or services: ACL s 22(d). In deciding this, a court will consider the relative bargaining positions of the supplier and customer: ACL s 22(1)(a). If a customer has been threatened, bullied or intimidated in relation to a service (including in relation to the removal or editing of negative reviews), he or she may seek to invoke this section of the ACL. This is especially relevant where the customer does not have the capacity to defend him or herself against such conduct by the supplier.

Chapter 3, Part 3 of the ACL deals with unfair practices, including false or misleading representations. For example, an Australian company or business may not mislead a customer about the nature of the services which it provides: ACL Ch 3 Pt 3 Div 1 s 34. If a customer is led to believe that he or she will receive a service which is ultimately not provided by the supplier, this section of the ACL may be invoked.

Notwithstanding actions under the ACL, a consumer may rely on the general law of contract in relation to written or verbal agreements.

Court action is not necessary at the outset of a consumer dispute. First, the customer should attempt to resolve the issue with the supplier. If the supplier is not open to offering a resolution, mediation may be appropriate. If mediation fails, court proceedings may follow.

Additionally, contraventions of the ACL may be reported to the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) at any time during a consumer dispute. Google search 'ACCC complaint' or the ACCC website for the relevant links.

IF A CUSTOMER'S PRIVATE AND CONFIDENTIAL INFORMATION HAS BEEN SHARED:

If an Australian company or business shares private and confidential customer information, remedies may be available via the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC), under the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth), or under the common law. For example, the sharing of private and confidential customer information may amount to a breach of confidence, which is actionable in civil proceedings.

LEGAL AID:

If a customer cannot afford legal representation, he or she may wish to contact a local Legal Aid provider. These services often provide free initial consultations and can assist in consumer-related matters.

Made the move into our new house so much easier knowing everything was properly cleaned before settling in. I was really impressed with how extensive the cleaning was (particularly in the bathrooms and kitchen!) and how much was achieved.

Mrs Muscle performed miracles cleaning my deceased estate (town house). The booking process was easy and was told exactly what was going to happen. The cleaning team were brilliant. Very cheery, but very professional. They did perform a miracle. The house was cluttered due to hoarding and very dirty.

I tried to ask what sort of dollars were involved but was told they wouldn’t say because I’d you hold them to hold them to it. They would only come view the property and quote. So basically I need to spend my time and energy having somebody come out to quote and only then to find out that that’s an outrageous amount of money because they don’t want to discuss anything at all over the phone around an approximate idea so I can budget. I have no idea if the cost is gonna be prohibited or in line with what others offer hence the reason why I ring around to try to see what the market is offering. More than happy to go elsewhere but what a shit business model that is.

I found your reply to be excessively long and unhelpful, much like your current business model, which fails to address my concerns effectively.

I understand the need for accurate assessments, but providing a general price range over the phone is a common practice among reputable service providers. This approach allows potential customers to gauge affordability before committing time to in-person evaluations.

Your refusal to offer even a ballpark figure suggests a lack of transparency and consideration for your customers’ time. Consequently, I will be seeking services elsewhere.

More than happy for you to post the transcript. Particularly the part where I asked what is standard 3 bedroom house cost? Is there an hourly fee? Something???

TL;DR: Your lengthy, uninformative response and unwillingness to provide preliminary pricing information reflect a business model that lacks transparency and respect for customer time.

-got cleaner coming next week. To be done over two days. I forgot to mention the garage houses a wine cellar, work room, panty storage, sauna, shower and toilet. Seems the property is so big with period detail they agreed that it best to clean over a few days

Anyone with expensive property always ask for an idea of cost before anyone comes to the house because once they see the house the price just escalates.

Imagine that I was able to find a business that could tell me what an approximate cost for a three bedroom house. Was that allowed me to then use that to work out what sort of dollars I was up for? I saw the other reviews on Google you’ve got other people telling you how rude and difficult you were to deal with and that’s exactly my experience. I’ll be heading over to Google Next.

By the way average costs for a standard three bedroom 700 -900 provided by genie cleaner and inner Melbourne maids. There are companies out there that will work with you to provide information you can use to plan. PLAN

What can I say other than this: I’ve followed the Mrs Muscle Cleaning page for ages, always knowing that one day I might need their services. That day finally came when I moved into a so-called 'cleaned' apartment in the city, which turned out to be an absolute disaster. I called Mrs Muscle Cleaning for a deep clean, and the situation was nothing short of disgusting.
