Urgent warning,
Urgent warning,
As a group of six people, we booked the balloon safari through African Safari Expert. 450 euros per person. There were already rising winds, and at first we were told the flight might be cancelled.
However, the balloon pilot decided to go ahead with the flight. The landing was a nightmare: travelling at 40 kilometres per hour, he executed a landing that effectively used the passengers lying in the lower rows – myself included – as human brakes. Not only were we dragged 100 metres across the Serengeti, but I also banged my head twice – no helmet, no headband – and that was the end of it. I suffered a cervical spine injury and am still having nightmares about it today. A doctor who’d been promised couldn’t be found because, as our guide informed us, he was extremely busy – a passenger had suffered life-threatening injuries and had to be airlifted out. After I googled this operator in more detail, it became clear that, according to ‘Visitor DDR’, this operator had already been involved in similar crashes. Aline Krause, Chair of costumer
