Horrendous experience - AVOID MG

Horrendous experience. Bought a new car after 1 hour and a half it broke down. Was told it was be completed in a week. Then told it would be completed before Christmas. Again after Boxing Day and I’m still waiting 3 and half weeks later. Constant broken promises and all this contact was from my side not from theirs. Not contacted at all from them about this issue. Kept promising different completion dates after I told them I would be cancelling. Only concerned about the money. Brand new IM5, then told ‘my car would be priority as it was so expensive’. What about other customers and their cars around Christmas. I had trouble getting a courtesy car from them as the receptionist said ‘good luck with that as we don’t have any’. Avoid MG Ellesmere Port or any MG for that matter.

Horrendous customer care

MG customer service is nothing short of atrocious. My brand new MG HS has been off the road now for 3 weeks. I have been refused a courtesy car twice, 1st time for technical issue not being ongoing for long enough then because it has been closed as they have worked out the fault. Still waiting on MG authorising the repair, no courtesy car from garage, no idea when car will be repaired, no call backs. Despite liking the car, i will never deal with MG again due to their abysmal customer care

The new 75 plate MG HS 1.5 GDI self charging hybrid +trophy automatic

I recently purchased a new MG hs 1.5 gdi self charging hybrid + trophy, what a great car, looks absolutely beautiful, fantastic value for money, it drives like a dream, so smooth and quiet, unbelievable amount of tech, loads of room, big boot space, I would highly recommend this car, forget all your big name brands, you get as much or even more for half the price, so impressed with the car, it also comes with a 7 year manufacturers warranty and 7 years anti perforation warranty.

Budgen MG

Bought new MGZS from Budgen MG Shrewsbury within a couple of days Seat belt buckle wouldn’t work told by Budgen to take it to local dealership who stated would take 3 weeks before they could look at it.Left me with a car I couldn’t use so decided to return it to Budgen who told me I had to get it back to them at my own cost. Met Aaron Moore sales manger when I returned the car who was unsympathetic and belligerent. Although it was me who was left with cost of the return (petrol and train fare) and a long walk to the train station. Don’t buy a car from Budgen MG.

We bought 2 car at same time so we can have 2 car together.
we had broken promises and 3 different time slots of conformation for hand over car but we did not receive on car and at the end we only receive one car while we are still waiting for another one. That was most disappointing car shop experience I ever had. this incident happen one of your store Glyn Hopkins in Watford.

Never again will I get an MG car and I…

Never again will I get an MG car and I would strongly advise anyone about getting one.
The starter motor on mine packed in (hey these things happen but…..)
It got towed to the garage to be fixed and they advised the part can only be sourced from MG at an inflated cost, the part was subsequently delayed. So now my car is back at the end of the queue to be sorted 3 weeks later I’m still waiting.

Customer service from MG is non existent I’ve emailed them and raised a complaint about the part only being available from them and then it’s delayed is just now good enough.
If I could give no stars I would!

Given up!

For the first time in over forty years of new car ownership, after 18 months with my MG3 HYBRID TROPHY and 9,000 miles, I've given up, swallowed the depreciation and switched to a BYD DOLPHIN SURF COMFORT EV.
Reason being was the quite atrocious level of 'non existent' level of customer service provided by MG UK.
From my experience, if there was anything outside of the bare minimum they had to provide top stay within the warranty they just didn't want to know.
After experiencing what are now known Engine emissions fault issues, requiring continual visits over the course of last year, this year a new fault appeared. Along with last year's issue, an additional warning appeared connected with the Hybrid battery.
This was an unknown fault (like with the engine emissions issue when it began), and would require the vehicle to stay at the dealership, but crucially this time with no loan car.
I tried MG UK, and as usual no apology from the awful advisor that my car had a problem, however even after explaining what the dealer had discovered, there was no confirmation that I could have a loan car. Apparently unless my car met some vague indeterminate criteria, they would not provide a car, and my dealer didn't have a car until January!
I need a car that is reliable, and whilst im the first to accept all cars can have issues, I need a manufacturer that stands by its customers, which from my 18 months of various issues MG UK don't!
It may have been the case that this latest fiasco would have been sorted within the day that I had to drop it off, but at the same time previous experience tells me that MG TECHNICAL would not be that quick to look into it, so I could see a merry go round of more visits, and potentially being without my car for an extended period.
I would point out, that no brand of car ive ever bought before had left me stranded without any alternative transport!

Avoid MG Newbury

Avoid MG Newbury. At purchase they were excellent and very helpful, but once issues arose the service collapsed.

I bought a brand-new MG HS and it developed a persistent rattling fault within months. The car has already had two failed repair attempts, and even when the fault was clearly replicated during a test drive in October, the dealership failed to include it in their report.

An MG UK field technician inspected the car again early November and confirmed the fault is still present, yet MG Newbury has provided no follow-up, no report, and no response to my formal rejection under the Consumer Rights Act 2015.

Communication is terrible, accountability is non-existent, and I’m left with a faulty vehicle and zero support. Think very carefully before buying from this dealership.

MG Coventry

MG Coventry.
James on service was brilliant. Went into ask a question about a problem. Took the keys straight away and solved the issue in less than 10 minutes. I could not do it as just had my neck fused so was unable to lift or stretch. Every time I go in the whole team are great. Highly recommend them. Will be having another mg hs next year.

2021 HS EXCLUSIVE MANUAL

I purchased the car from new and in 4 years I did 42k miles.
The only problem that I had was the water pipe to the rear wiper became disconnected. This was rectified under warranty.
The only costs I had were for servicing. When I traded it in the original Michelin tyres that came with the car were still all good.

I wish I could give a 0/5

I don’t have the time to write a thesis on what is wrong with this company but I’ll summarise. I’ve had the car 2.5 years it’s a 2019 zs EV model.
- range is about 100
- issues with the computer system
- VERY expensive to fix and things frequently go wrong
- customer service SO rude and unhelpful
- they find issues that are non existent (get a second opinion always with MG)
- they messed up my MG assist which left me stranded
- dodgy dealers selling the car not giving the full history
- warranty is defunct and BS

If I could give a 0, I would

😱 BRITISH LEYLAND IS ALIVE & STILL…

😱 BRITISH LEYLAND IS ALIVE & STILL POORLY - don’t buy MG

I made the mistake of buying another MG (I guess it was a glittering deal on offer)
I’VE had quite a few minor problems - my dad warned me not to buy it & now I know he was right - it’s just like an old skool BRITISH LEYLAND 😱 car - unreliability - part of the package

NOW - battery problems & the dealership can’t even source a new battery - they’ve had 2 delivered already & STILL NOT THE RIGHT SIZE 🤣 saying " we think the main computer has the wrong code on it " what a joke!

The car’s brand new and they can’t even give me a courtesy car as I " Don't qualify " even with a 7 year warranty and 3 total battery failure.
The AA bumped me to start the battery so I drove my car to the garage for repair. Because of this i now dont qualify for a courtesy car. The last time I was given a courtesy car they removed it from me before the work was completed saying that " the work is due to be completed in the next 4 days" leaving me again without a car.

Ask your grandparents about what they remember about the British LEYLAND reputation - MG was part of the group - BE WARNED

How far have MG come

How far have MG come!
It reminds me of how people were so quick to put down Hyunda all those years ago, just look at where they are now in the car market.

I was initially very sceptical, regarding purchasing a brand new car. After carrying out some research, then test driving the New Model 2025 MG HS 1.5 Gdi Hev Trophy Auto, I was more than surprised...
Take off the MG badge, ask 100 people there honest opinion on how the car looks, as people do buy with their eyes!
Then have them drive the car, touch, feel the quality and then tell them it's an MG....I guarantee, they will without doubt,be VERY surprised.
7 year warranty (8 year on the battery), 7 year top level AA cover if you have it serviced at an a MG dealer. £195 for the first 2 services, the AA breakdown cover alone would cost over £120 a year, so it's a no brainer!
I was in the motor trade for over 20 years and can't justify paying the cost of a new car. That said, some MG dealers are offering ridiculous discounts. I had nearly £7,000, off list. Brand new model 2025 MG HS 1.5 GDi + 221bhp hybrid Trophy in Pearl White,on the road for £24,800 from MG Cinderford.
This was the revised model, without the silly fake exhaust vents, so the new, new model.
Other dealers are asking more but for the 2024 launch model with the silly exhaust vents, so check!
MG Cinderford without doubt, are the cheapest in the UK.
I highly recommend this dealer, as the sales guys Jack and Ben are simply outstanding. Their customer service is 1st Class.

There's nothing out there in comparison that even comes close for the money.
£24,800 on the road for a brand new car with 7 years warranty that looks and drives as it does!

I’ve had my MG4 trophy long range for around 9 months from new now. It’s very nice to drive and my first full EV having driven plug in hybrids before. Quality seems decent comparable to other makes I’ve driven including BMW. The infotainment system can be a little glitchy and the lane keep assist is annoying so I turn it off every trip if I remember. Sat nav is far better than my BMW’s were but I tend to use google maps through Apple car play anyway as I link the Electroverse app to it for planning charges on longer trips. Overall ive been very happy with my first MG (since I had an MGB roadster in the 1980’s)

Absolutely appalling

Booked car for a service. Now over a month later have still not received paperwork showing what was found. I did get an automated email ‘reminding me’ work was needed on my brakes. But as I don’t know what, I can’t get it done. This is a serious safety issue.

I have contacted them around 15-20 times and they say they’ll send it but just….don’t.

Then they asked if I wanted to sign up to their service plan for another 2 years!

The MG warranty appears to be…

The MG warranty appears to be worthless. The boot floor on my 2025 ZS SE petrol has broken. I have carried nothing heavy in the boot, merely using the car for my two (smallish) dogs. I have had dogs for 45 years, most of them larger and heavier than my present two, and have never known a boot floor to fail.
I went to one MG dealer but because I hadn't bought the car from them they weren't helpful.
I then went to the dealer from whom I had bought the car. To say that they were uninterested is probably an understatement. My claim, rejected by the dealer, I contacted MG uk customer service only to be told that it wasn't a manufacturing fault, but misuse.
Come on! Two dogs should not wreck a boot floor!
I am a second time MG owner, but I will never buy an MG again.

Terrible customer service

Very relieved to return my MG 4 at the end of a 2 year PCP. It had a 12 v battery drain from the outset which resulted in 11 AA call outs. Although the radio module was identified as the cause early on it took MG over a year to replace it. Also they were reluctant to replace the 12 v battery under the 7 year warranty, when it packed up just over a year old. The first time if failed the AA advised that the car was not driveable, but it would be 3 months before they could look at it! No worries they offered me a courtesy car for 1 day! Head office customer service were more like a non service, just referring back to dealer every time. It is a shame you cannot award zero stars.
