Cloud in amazing

migrated to mega for years. my sensitive documents to drive. and the peace of mind is worth every penny. The web interface is clean.
It’s fast, the built-in media player is surprisingly smooth, and I finally feel like I 'own' my cloud space.

Not Ideal. No files on demand

Not ideal.

Files on demand?
Nope. Keep dreaming. It’s been almost 6 years since it was requested, and still nothing.

It’s okay-ish for private use, but if you want to share large files?
Either give up your encryption by using Transfer.it, or make everyone else consume your transfer quota.

Transfer.it also scrambles the folder structure, which makes it extremely annoying to work with.

Since Files on Demand isn’t a thing, you’re forced to manually maintain and update your files locally, or completely restructure your folders... which is nonsense.

Does MEGA seriously expect everyone to have 10TB of free storage lying around just because they bought the 10TB plan?

Coming from Dropbox, this felt like a fever dream. I wouldn’t recommend this to anyone.

Maybe in another 6 years, Files on Demand will finally be implemented, by the MEGA team’s janitor.

I had this Mega account for some time

I had this Mega account for some time, and had a lot of pictures there, one day I decided that I was no longer gonna need the account and deleted it. But after some weeks I realized that that Mega account was very useful to store any videos or pictures that I wanted to store without having to use space from my phone, and hence improving the performance of my device. Thing is, my account was deleted by following the whole instructions to get rid of it, so it was gone, but today I decided to give it a shot and contact the customer service and send them a message to see if I could recover it, they reached out to me by email, telling me that they could make an exception, and then I was able to recover it. I liked that they were able to follow up and help me quite fast I, and that they were merciful with my account even though I deleted it. Really appreciate it, and recommend the app due to how even being free, it has good space to save ideos and pictures or data.

MEGA accounts are protected by end-to-end encryption, and access can only be recovered using the correct password or a valid Recovery/Backup Key. If a temporary email address was used and is no longer accessible, and no Recovery Key is available, we unfortunately have no technical way to reset access to the account or its contents.

money hungry company playing in your face

no wonder everybody would rather use mediafire or google drive. telling me, in the MIDDLE of my download i cant download this file unless i give yall money or wait 5+ hours. genuinely ridiculous. are yall trying to rage bait your customer base? if so its working.

For free accounts, MEGA applies a temporary transfer quota, which can be reached during larger or multiple downloads. When this happens, downloads pause until the quota resets, or the user chooses to upgrade. This isn’t intended to “bait” users, but rather to balance resources fairly across millions of free accounts while keeping the service sustainable.

That said, there are often ways to improve the experience, such as using the MEGA Desktop App, which provides more stable and efficient transfers, or adjusting transfer settings depending on your setup.

We did try to reach out via Trustpilot to offer assistance, but didn’t hear back. If you’re open to it, our support team would be happy to help explain the limits in more detail or suggest alternatives based on how you’re using the service.

MEGA Customer service helped me access to my account again

The email address that I have used to create my account with MEGA was no longer accessible. Therefore, I was not able to loggin to my account.
I was so afraid to loose all my pictures.
But I had my connection key.
I wrote yo MEGA customer service.
They helped me by changing my email address so I could use my connection key and my new email address to access to my account again.
I was so grateful that MEGA customer service helped me so I didn't lost all my previous pictures.

MEGA does not artificially limit download speeds based on whether an account is free or paid. Transfer speeds depend on a number of factors such as your internet connection, ISP routing, network congestion, and how transfers are configured on your device.

If you’re using a web browser, speeds can be affected by browser limitations. For the best performance, we recommend using the MEGA Desktop App and ensuring your transfer settings (such as parallel connections and bandwidth limits) are configured correctly.

Introduced a policy of purging data if…

Introduced a policy of purging data if inactive. Had data stored here for many years and then suddenly it was permanently deleted without me knowing. If you're going to introduce a policy like that after many years of not having it, the grace period should be much longer than 3 months. Even more so if said policy is quietly added to the TOS. Absolutely livid and will never ever use this service again in my life.

Edit: Found some shared files from a friend that I was transferring out of MEGA since it's not safe to keep them there. Got a pop-up saying I had depleted my transfer quota. REALLY? I am paywalled from transferring what's left of my personal files? Clear indication that this company does not care whatsoever about their customers data. A massive middle finger from Mega and a final nail in the coffin. Avoid this company if you value your files.

Please note that the account inactivity detection is always in our terms.

MEGA's policy to delete data from inactive accounts is specified in our Terms of Service (clause 37.4 https://mega.io/terms), to which you agreed when you signed up for a MEGA account.

MEGA should have tried to contact you multiple times regarding your account inactivity; before your files were deleted, at least two email notifications were sent to your registered email address, and the account had been inactive for at least 3 months.

If you did not receive the email notifications, it is possible that they were blocked by your spam filter, which is unfortunately outside our control.

And regarding the transfer quota:

The transfer quota is the total volume of data you can download from MEGA, and it is also consumed when streaming.

You can view your current transfer quota usage by accessing this link https://mega.nz/fm/dashboard using your PC browser.

For free accounts, the transfer quota is measured per IP address, not per user account.

Free accounts are provided with a transfer quota (download capacity) that varies depending on our system utilization. It is provided based on the total amount of data transferred during the last six hours but depends on the time of day, ISP, country etc.

If you have a dynamic IP address assigned by your ISP or you are using a VPN and received a "Transfer quota exceeded" warning without downloading anything from MEGA, that means others sharing the same IP may have used up the quota before you.
Once the free transfer quota is exceeded on your IP, you will have to wait to accrue more free quota.

Alternatively, you can upgrade to a Pro account which provides extra storage and transfer quota as well as some exclusive advanced features: https://mega.nz/pro


For Pro accounts, the transfer quota is the amount of data each user will be able to download (i.e. 1 TB of data during one month) and it is measured per user account, not per IP address.

Pro users get one allocation of their entire transfer quota per billing period, so annual Pro accounts will get one year's worth all at once.

If the quota is not entirely used in one month or year (depending on the term chosen), the remaining quota expires.

As a Pro account user, you are able to grant a percentage of your transfer quota to anyone downloading from your public file/folder links (this includes FREE users and non-registered users).

Once you have used up all of your Pro account's transfer quota allocation, you will have to purchase another plan.

Issue with desktop client on new laptop

I have been using Mega for.... some 13 years.
I use it mainly to back up documents, databases and the complete .conf library.
I have always use a Linux machine (RedHat/Ubuntu) never any issue.
Lately I had an issue with the Mega desktop client on my brand new laptop.
I have contacted the helpdesk via the channels offered and they helped me solve the problem. I consider mine a small problem with low importance, but the helpdesk answered me back every time within 2 days. I found that very adequate!
After 3 emails back and forth my issue was solved to full satisfaction.
Forget to mention that I am on the free/50gb plan.
Very happy with the support offered!

Good app but one feature suggestion

Good app, they have been very patient with me and understanding. I’ve asked them to restore my files multiple times and they did. I recently accidentally deleted my account and they restored it for me out of goodwill as they don’t usually do it I think but it’s a good app/ website. Honestly cheap as well to be honest. I just wish it was possible on the users end to restore all of our folders and files on our own end without having to ask the kind staff all the time
