While we don't verify specific claims because reviewers' opinions are their own, we may label reviews as "Verified" when we can confirm a business interaction took place. Read more

Among the many site I have, there is one that simply shows user country code whenever they visit the site.
MaxMind constantly files abusive and fake DMCA complaints to my hosting providers trying to take down my website, they consider me a competitor.
In the complaint they said "We want to know if you use our data", well I don't, and that is not a situation where they should file DMCA complaints. DMCA law requires that you declre under sworn statements that you own the content you make the complaint against, not make a complaints "just to ask" hoping the hosting provider is soft enought to take down possible competitors of yours.
Disgusting company and practices.
I've been using MaxMind IP2Geo DB for nearly 10 years. One of my apps is a local business search and we use the DB as a user convenience to set local city and state for local search.
Today I find out that they won't update my DB because it violates their current EULA. Strange. They sold me the DB and updated it twice in the past without an issue. Only this time, they have a new API-based service they are pushing or I can buy their DB for $10,000.
Sorry, but IP2Geo service is a dime a dozen now with dozens of players offering the same data at much more affordable rates.
This is not rocket science but greed has taken root in this easy to duplicated niche data market.
They just lost a paying customer because someone at their company jacked their prices into orbit and now wont offer a license that has been in place for a decade.
I guess times change. Well, so do my vendors. I fired MaxMind today. I'll use someone else or just build my own DB without their ridiculous EULA and prices.
So I put in a request for the free trial, didn't hear anything for weeks. I then sent a follow up email asking if I could purchase their services or use the free trial to wait another week for this response:
Hello,
Thank you for your interest in Maxmind and the services we offer. Unfortunately, we are not able to process your request.
Thank you,
-Lewis
They didn't ask any questions, just waited weeks to reply and refused my business? Very sketchy team and I would watch out for Lewis.
(They immediately closed my ticket and ignored any further emails).
Easiest IP DB to get the subnets updated. Easy to work with, simple form to update entire subnet ranges. Very fast to reflect those changes.
