Move from Spain to the UK
They arrived at the time and on the date arranged. They packed the furniture etc amazingly well and loaded it without problems. The men were helpful and polite. The same can be said when the furniture was delivered in the UK. No damage, no breakages.
A job well done.
The administration for importation was handled professionally, and we were guided on the steps we had to take to obtain the necessary permit.
An excellent job all round.

Our second time using Matthew James
This was our second time using Matthew James to move our things between the UK and France. Communication was excellent, from the initial enquiry to the collection of furniture in France last week. We await the details of when the furniture will be delivered to our home in the UK. The 2 men who came to collect the furniture in France were courteous and professional, they took care with wrapping the furniture. There was snow on the ground and they had to carry a heavy sofa about 150 metres, down a slope to where the truck had to be parked. They worked hard to complete the collection in an afternoon. I am very pleased with the service so far would recommend this company.

2nd update: They've now replied to this review, and it's a pretty good illustration of their approach. Combative attitude, untruthful assertions. All this could have been avoided if they'd said sorry and done something to help, rather than immediately going on the attack as soon as we raised a concern. Terrible company culture.
Update: Matthew James offered me over £500 to remove this review. Explains why they have such a high rating despite my terrible experience with them.
Notice that the high ratings here are for very simple jobs. Then notice the common thread on the 1-star ratings: that when something *does* go wrong, the company is defensive and accusatory, taking a "customer is always wrong" attitude. We used Matthew James to move our family from the UK to Spain. A *lot* went wrong with this move, including multiple delays, constant radio silence, and ultimately (i) having to pay £1000s extra in an extended Airbnb stay and then a last-minute hotel booking when they left us without beds in the property despite multiple promises, and (ii) loss of some of our possessions which we had to give up in exchange for getting the beds done at all. But the worst thing of all was the company's attitude when we complained (both during and after the process): they immediately became defensive and hostile, lied to us, accused us of lying, said unpleasant things to my wife about me and to me about my wife, and threatened us with extra fees. The whole experience left my wife and young children shaking and crying on multiple occasions. I strongly recommend avoiding this firm - if anything goes other than smoothly, they will blame, threaten, and rewrite history rather than actually trying to solve the problem.

We are genuinely disappointed and apologise that you felt you had a negative experience whilst using our services, however we would very respectfully refute the allegations you have made in this review and find it to be profoundly misleading.
You purchased a shared load service and insisted that you were never told about the possibility of delays and were recommended to choose our shared load service over our dedicated service (a service where moving dates are guaranteed) and blamed this for the troubles you have faced with your move. We have sent you the call recordings where this was proven to be categorically false and you were clearly advised about the inherent flexibility of the shared load and the guaranteed dates that come with a dedicated move.
At no stage have you been blamed, threatened or had unpleasant things said to you and the total number of calls and emails that have been exchanged with yourself and Matthew James since your first contact has been substantial.
The only complication with your move beyond that which was made clear ahead of time was that unfortunately there were unforeseen road works that shut the entire road of the delivery address, of which we were not aware of ahead of time.
Regardless of this, we completed the move without issue or further delay, making additional arrangements beyond that which was quoted for and causing your move to take an extra day than that which was paid for and yet we never once requested additional payment for this, despite the request for an access check ahead of time.
We have sent you evidence to refute each and every claim you have made and unfortunately you have refused to acknowledge this and asked only for more and more compensation beyond that which was offered to you in goodwill.
We find it sincerely disappointing that you have chosen a move package that did not suit your needs and have decided to attempt to tarnish our reputation as a result. Additionally, you have stated that our high ratings are for simple jobs and yet, your move is one of the simpler ones that we complete. Almost every 5* review we have, over 900, are for moves mostly larger or more complicated and nuanced than that which we completed on your behalf.
