Written by the company

Matsumoku Guitar and Bass Ltd operates from the inspiring and spectacular ex-Lotus Cars headquarter Ketteringham Hall, a stone's throw from the A11 between Norwich and Wymondham. We specialise in Japanese vintage guitars, those made by the iconic Matsumoku plant in particular; we source and sell excellent and rare examples; restore them sensitively and recreate them where required to combine that vintage feel with modern and exciting functionality. We built several guitars for the late great Keith Levene and will continue to build more to his specification and to honour his memory. Our workshop and team of luthiers offer the highest level of restoration and service work for any type of guitar. Our website provides all the details. We are open by appointment 7 days a week, and well into the evenings if necessary. We can shuttle you to and from Wymondham train station and organize accommodation if needed. All major credit cards accepted or bank transfers.

The best!

Words really can't capture just how excellent this crew is. Tom is an absolute delight to deal with; friendly, entertaining, attentive, careful, efficient, effective. I purchased 2 acoustics, and they were expertly packaged in a single box. When it got stuck in customs for almost 2 weeks, we were in constant contact, even laughing through it. The guitars made it safe and sound and they are terrific. Tom truly cares, knows guitars, knows guitar players. You can't do better than a deal with him and his team. Highest recommendation! If I'm ever in the UK I'm swinging by!

What an amazing experience

What an amazing guitar. Tom gives you the story of the guitar, sets it up to perfection, sent a pre delivery inspection video and has just been such a pleasure to chat with. Fantastic and memorable experience acquiring a beautiful vintage instrument.

Something different (in a very good way)

I was on a short city break in Norwich and found Matsumoku Guitars quite unexpectedly via the Internet. After a very pleasant pre-arranged evening visit to the studio to try a range of different Strats by myself, with Tom's expert guidance, I ended up buying a gorgeous old 1978 Greco guitar. The resident luthier then refretted and fitted it with a new bridge. Whilst I wouldn't call myself an expert guitarist, I know enough to know how quality this instrument is, and how well it stands up to modern competition. Moreover, the whole shopping experience was personal and nothing like how I've ended up with other guitars in the past: Tom and Steffie even drove a decent distance to personally deliver the Greco to me after the modifications were completed. I'd absolutely recommend to any guitarists in the area looking for something different (in a very good way)!

Matsumoku

Where do you start. Set within the confines of the imposing Ketteringham hall. Once home to the famous Collin Chapman and his lotus formula one team. Here is Matsumoku a formula of their own when it comes to luthier ship a combination of skill and knowledge with a great attention to detail makes for a winning team.
