Life-Changing Course
I joined The Reverse Engineer program at mastering.com almost a year ago and it has been truly life-changing. I had previously taken other mixing courses online, but the systematic and in-depth approach in TRE is far better than what I experienced in these other courses. I feel as though through this content I now grasp the core fundamentals of full-stack production, mixing, and mastering. The skills I have already gained from this program have enabled me to do high level work for a variety of clients over the past couple months. If you are interested in learning to do this professionally, I can't recommend this program enough.
TRE has been wonderful
TRE has been wonderful. This program demystified the world of audio mastering, mixing and production for me. It has completely transformed my mind. Seriously. I came in to the program feeling I had a good grasp on audio engineering. TRE uncovered a mindset I never considered or knew I needed. Their approach to teaching resonated with me and I am finally getting the professional results I desired. 5 stars from me.
Totally worth it
I have joined The Reverse Engineer program around 10 months ago and I can tell you it is totally worth the investment!
This is not a collection of a bunch of YouTube videos by influencers, this is the real stuff!
Through the program I am actually learning how to master, mic and produce. How, when and why do a specific move, use a specific plugin.
No quick tips and tricks here.
Not only lessons but real mentorship by real pros and a great community.
I could not recommend it enough!
Happy Reverse Engineer
The Reverse Engineer course from Mastering.com exceeded my expectations. It's not just another course filled with theoretical knowledge; it’s a hands-on mentorship program that accelerates your growth as a mastering engineer. The structured modules cover everything from EQ to compression, with a deep dive into professional workflows that truly prepare you for real-world scenarios.
What sets it apart is the direct live access to experienced mentors who provide actionable feedback. This personalized guidance helps to avoid common mistakes and master techniques far quicker than doing it on your own. The sense of community also fosters collaboration, motivation, and learning from peers. I highly recommend it to anyone serious about becoming a professional in the field.
The best I could have done for myself
It's an amazingly well structured program to get you from zero to pro.
You get everything, no cutting corners.
It starts with getting you to have the best hearing environment to work in. "Accoustic Truth" we call it around here. And then, you go to town on listening skills, what crucial things to pay attention to, how to handle every situation, etc.
You get the theoretical videos on all the concepts and practices, you get the cheatsheets to implement them for the assignments, you get videos of the mentors applying the info, the tracks to work on and lots of zoom calls with the mentors to help you out with anything. No stupid questions.
Also, and maybe most of all, an amazing community of helpful, talented and beautiful people to share with.
Living in a third world country it was not easy for me to make the decision to enroll, but in the end I did, and I have no regrets.
This is the best I could have done.
An eye-opening experience
Having just finished my 7-day trial, I can say with confidence that the amount and quality of information here is absolutely mindblowing. They do not sell you silver bullets or make unrealistic promises. What they do instead is provide real actionable information that will completely transform the way you think about music production. All of the sudden, you have this moment of absolute clarity, and the blank session syndrome is no longer weighing you down. Their unique approach used in the Reverse Engineer program is nothing short of revolutionary, IMHO. Having tried a lot of different courses and educational programs, both free and paid, this is probably the best I've seen so far. I will definitely come back for more, and I'm looking forward to seeing the new curriculum expected to be added towards the end of 2024. Hats off to the entire team, and a huge thank-you to Mastering.com for this incredible opportunity!
I am finishing more mixes much faster…
I am finishing more mixes much faster and I’m not so attached to what I’m mixing. Plus, I can see myself doing this for a living and enjoying myself. I really didn’t like mixing before but of course this was a mindset leading to procrastination.
This program changed my entire outlook and I’m so grateful to have you all as coaches and mentors.
---------------------------------
When I started this program, I was focused on mixing my own music, and so I wanted to write everything myself to learn how to mix. My thought process was, "well, if I'm going to learn to mix, I might as well learn on my own songs, since I play multiple instruments and I like to write."
I'm only just now realizing that writing and recording and arranging my own songs will waste unnecessary time while I'm learning how to mix. Also, I wasn't really enjoying mixing songs as much as writing and recording them, so it was a form of procrastination.
Now, that I'm in this program, I have the opportunity to mix other people's songs. I'm mixing more tracks and finishing more and I'm seeing more rapid progress in my mixes.
Hard To Get Sales Folks For Booked Meetings
I've been trying to get lined up with their orientation folks for 3 weeks now with not the greatest experience. The salesman for the initial point of contact just stood me up the first week. I had to wait another week to get together on a time we could both do the call.
After talking with him I was interested enough to do the 1 hour orientation, so I moved my schedule around to be able to book one of the times available another week out. The day of I still hadn't had contact with agent #2. I reached out and ask agent #1 to verify I was booked. He said agent #2 would be reaching out to me, which he eventually did, only to tell me he was all booked out that day and we'd have to look for a new time next week.
Forgive me, if I feel a certain kind of way about this lack of efficiency from a company asking me to spend $7,800.00 all up front.
I have a lot of questions to be answered before I'd have that much faith in any company, but one that cannot even get the booked dates for a simple meeting right....
I will say that the free training they've directed me to has been nothing short of excellent. I'll try one more time and if I purchase I'll update this review.
Top notch audio engineering training.
I've been learning from them for over a year and officially with their 'The Reverse Engineer' program since November 2023. My experience has been that their training materials are top notch and very current. They've already updated the parts of the course multiple times to keep with the constantly changing information in the industry, which I really appreciate. They really do care about helping people achieve their goals. There are multiple opportunities to go on live with mentors every week and they are always available for questions outside of these planned sessions. I've learned more from them in a year than I have learned in the past 5-10 years on my own.
Great intro course for beginners!
I am a singer/songwriter/musician wanting to have more knowledge and control over producing my own music. I took a few free 3-day workshops with mastering.com, then signed up for their (paid) 6-week "Music Production 101" course. I'm about half-way through, struggling to keep up because there is so much content and I have a lot of other things on my plate, but I know I have access to all the content after the class is officially over, so no worries.
The instructional videos, guided exercises, and downloadable reference sheets are great, and the live interaction with instructors on group mentoring calls is also great. Special shout-out to Nick who spent an hour on a Zoom call with me individually to help with some Pro Tools issues. It doesn't matter what DAW you use, but they teach the concepts with Logic and Studio One.
I highly recommend this course to any beginners wanting to get into audio production. I absolutely have already gotten my money's worth.
TRE Rocks
The knowledge/expertise and patience of the mentors et al is unsurpassable. The continuing improvements have been great, I am particularly excited about MAD Records. I've been at this my whole life and already I've learned so much. Thanks to everyone!
I learned a ton from these folks
I learned a ton from these folks! Grateful for the knowledge and community.
I have had a very great experience!
I have had a very great experience with TRE. I am about half way through the program and TRE and everyone in it owns up to their promises. The community is great, the mentors are patient and help guide you along the way, and the knowledge you get is priceless. The skills I've acquired during this program far succeed those I've learned anywhere else. Highly recommend this!
More than Excellent!
This is an excellent study course with brilliant teachers who are so passionate about what they do! Having tried college for a couple of years, I can say this is so much better.
Unlike some college teachers who teach what they don't do (what they might have just learned through books), the Mastering.Com crew are people who have really worked in the music biz for a long time and truly experienced what they talk about.
The whole community is strong, supportive, and super helpful! I love being a member of it.
...the best things ever happened to me!!
The 2-years-long TRE program is not for everyone ;) I mean it requires quite some effort and commitment for sure, but is one of the best things ever happened to me!! I'm about to end my first year and I gotta say the curriculum is phenomenal, the coaching calls are very informative and all tutors are always very attentive and prepared. The community is also a true jewel imho, a safe place of like-minded people where you can get help and support on everything you need. Highly recommended!
This is THE place to learn mixing/mastering.
These guys not only know what they're doing, they know how to teach as well. In this course, you'll learn WHY you make the decisions you make. And it's not just watching videos. It's also A LOT of hands on. I've been trying to mix for years and never been completely happy with anything I've done. I'm still learning but now I have a process and a clear understanding of what I'm doing. And everyone, including the community of other students, is SO kind, encouraging and helpful. Couldn't be happier that I signed up.
Mastering the Mix
I’ve enjoyed the team of mentors style of teaching as well as the community and what I like most is how proactive the mentors are with addressing any questions as well as the community. I joined officially their The Reverse Engineer Oct. 2023 but prior to that I’ve released 14 songs so it’s been eye opening to gain specific answers to questions I’ve had about my production so I encourage anyone who is willing to put in the work to gain the education without paying the price of one to sign up with Mastering.com, especially since you get to learn from successful industry engineers.
Do It
I could not have made a better investment in myself than by joining The Reverse Engineer. The constant access to coaching calls, mentoring, and making connections in this global community is worth the $ alone. The course is well thought out and provides you with the foundations to become a great producer, mixing and mastering engineer. It's EXACTLY what I needed to get me to the next level. :)
TRE has been a great program
TRE has been a great program, and I highly recommend it to anyone looking to get serious about mastering, mixing, and production. I am in week 13 currently, and already, I’m feeling like the things I have learned thus far will put me where I want to be. My music output is sounding worlds better already, and I’m moving way more efficiently. If you’re on the fence about joining, just jump in. You will not regret it. The instructors are kind, cool, and hilarious. The community is outstanding. And the course work is in-depth, and fun.
Game changing
I've learned more in the last five months than I've learned in my lifetime. The mentor calls are worth every penny of the program.
