Gift subscription rip off attempt

I redeemed a gift subscription that I received for Xmas. MasterClass asked for my credit card information, purportedly as a requirement for a renewal at the end of the year. Since that was the only way to redeem the gift subscription, I provided the information. Then, they immediately charged my credit card for a one-year subscription. It took an hour to have the charge reversed. I suspect lots of people don't check their credit card statements and MasterClass receives this double payment.

Major Problems Need Fixing

Some of the classes are very good. However, when we’ve finished watching a class, or want to stop watching one on our tv, there is no search mechanism that allows us to find and watch something else. We have to uninstall and reinstall the app, which is a nuisance.
I’ve called customer service twice, and each time had to wait over twenty minutes to speak to someone.
If this isn’t resolved in a week, I’m cancelling our subscription.

Horrific experience

Horrific experience. Sneakily have been charging me for 4 years with just one email of notification. I didn't notice and they still refused to refund me in full.

Terrible classes additional.

They will steal your $$$

Charged me “recurring” for a year and I tried to cancel and get a refund the same day. They claim they can’t find my account and when I provide all the details they go silent. Out $180. Not the lesson I wanted to learn.

Took funds for a full year instead of one month

I selected a one month subscription and Masterclass has charged me for a full year. It was very difficult to get a reply from Masterclass over the holiday season. I have requested a refund and am waiting for that to clear. If the refund comes through, and I still feel the courses are worth it, I may attempt to re-subscribe for a single month. At that point I will re-assess this review (once I have experienced the product).

They have a few great speakers

They have a few great speakers; this was a treat for me. I got it because of the EDM music producers and authors I admire. But once you have done them, what else is there? There is not follow up, like an advance class as you move from beginner to advance. The concept is good, but the customer support is less so - so if you don't need it then great. However, it is very easy to find that you are not using it and you get the yearly renewal and its a shock. There is no once that you will be renewed in a week or so. Equally no notification of new classes (of my category) that I might be interested in to keep me hooked.

Worst customer service ever

I haven't been able to sign in to my account for two days, I contact customer support and get an email telling me it will take up to 48 hours to resolve the issue. Seems they just don't care. Not good enough.

Disappointing. Don't buy

Disappointing. Bought a gift for family which was explicitly a once off 12 month subscription not a recurring offer. They sneakily send the invoice the same day as the receipt. They don't provide any reminders and they had no authority to charge again. No response from support still and money taken from account. Gyms have a bad reputation but I think this is a new winner! Highly recommend avoiding buying anything from this business. Deceptive behaviour and impossible to unsubscribe by design

Updated 8 Jan. As of today the matter was resolved and refund processed. Its disappointing practise and recommend masterclass reconsiders it's methods to avoid churn. This is not the way. That said, support has resolved it and my concerns were addressed to their credit in the end. Just so avoidable.

What a terrible experience.

What a terrible experience.. they built their business on famous speakers and coaches but have no client support in place, I was charged twice for my membership and impossible to reach customer support. I tried chat, email, instagram messages.. no help.. I wonder if those great people who offer courses via this platform are aware on ruining their reputation being a part of masterclass… really pity.

This company JUST SUCKS

This company has an auto renewal policy - They charged my credit card immediately and once I noticed it - a day later I sent an email to their support and they would not issue a refund. THIS MIGHT NOT BE ILLEGAL BUT SURE IS A SHITTY WAY TO DO BUSINESS. THEY SHOUDL BE ASHAME OF THEMSELVES.

Got masterclasses as a gift last…

Got masterclasses as a gift last Christmas. Spent a few minutes on various classes but none were very good. Was charged $240 this Christmas even though it was originally given to me as a gift. Email customer service but have not heard since. Will be calling the bank to run a charge back on the transaction.

SCAM

SCAM
I cancelled the membership months ago, as I purchased it last year as a Christmas gift. Got confirmation of cancellation. I even removed my payment card details. Yet they have taken an auto-subscription payment from the card number that was deleted.
(1) fraudulent holding and using my card
Details, Your data is not safe!
(2) Did not cancel the auto subscription even although they confirmed it.

Edit: in response to the reply below: you refunded me then charged my daughter who I had originally bought the gift for. HOW DARE YOU! Total SCAM.

If i could give zero stars i would.

If i could give zero stars i would.

1.I tried to cancel after my member ship ran out, the cancel button disappears, to cancel you need to pay another annual subscription for this to reappear.

2. I tried to contact masterclass 4 times, via chat and email, nothing ever comes of it.

3. Mastclass automatically billed me een after canceling.

Masterclass is a true scam and i sense a Class action law suit will occur.

Auto renewal scammers

Auto renewal scammers. Sent an email of the day of renewal that went to spam. I’ve never used the service.

When I saw the charge on my cc bill at the end of the billing period I requested a refund within 30 days of the charge.

They claim they do not offer refunds which is completely against ANY consumer regulations and VISA chargeback rules.

What a bunch of losers. They resort to cheap auto renewal tactics to make money rather than provide any real value.

I’m going to enter an official chargeback request and ask my bank to treat as a fraudulent transaction and also report to the consumer advice bureau. Someone has to do something about these cowboys and stop them from using these anti consumer tactics.

Nice quality and no issues getting a refund

Had a good experience. I tried it out and it was super nice. However I quickly burned through the content I enjoyed, and after about 2 weeks I asked for a refund. The refund was granted without issues.
Overall a good experience, but a years subscription was way too much time for the limited content I wanted to see.

I purchased a two for one last year…

I purchased a two for one last year promotion of Masterclass for my daughter in law, She informed me several times during the year that she had not received the email. I sent it to her multiple times and never showed up in her inbox. I reached out to help several times and not response. I have now been charged for another year. I got a hold of customer service this morning and after getting upset they finally agreed to refund me. I requested a refund for last year because she didn't receive it and they denied my request. I am so embarrassed that I paid for a gift that she didn't receive. I send several emails requesting the cancellation and have yet to get a response. This is terrible customer service. I think Masterclass should make it right and refund last year subscription fee.
