Generators needed for an event. Day late then didn't have the leads and then couldn't fulfil at all on the day after initial hire period - all they could say was "Sorry". Rubbish, do not waste your time.

As other people have said

As other people have said, i wish i had read the reviews prior to hiring from them, the equipment i hired was not what i asked for, i paid £12 for early delivery and it came at 12pm, we could not use what was sent so turned it away and got told no refund on this occasion, there will not be another occasion.

Won’t be using again

Delivery was on time but was carried out the Travis Perkins. The colllection date came and went with no communication, in the end after a further week had passed it was only collected as TP needed it back. The refund of the deposit process is painful with slow responses to emails. After 30day I’m still waiting of the return of £500. Save yourself the hassle and go direct to TP

Wish I'd read the reviews first..

Wish I'd read the reviews first... Ordered a strimmer to be delivered for a day's hire. Halfway through the working day and still waiting on the delivery. Live chat is pointless as you're just ignored despite being "next" for over an hour. Replies on here state that there is a phone number on the invoice and confirmation e-mail: there is not. What a waste of my day but, judging from the other reviews, efforts to try and get any semblance of either customer service or a refund will be equally pointless. AVOID. Looks like even Trustpilot have issues with them for "misrepresentation"
Edit - having waited in all day for someone to come and collect it, nobody has. Absolute joke. Contacted customer services and they stated that collection can happen up to 5 working days from the end of hire date and that I will get 30-60 minutes notice. I asked how that was compatible with me working full-time. In fairness they then contacted the supplier and obtained an assurance that I would be given 24 hours' notice but the whole thing is still a joke

This company has bad reviews for a reason. I think it might be the worst customer service I’ve ever experienced. I wish I’d seen these bad reviews before as I definitely wouldn’t have used them.
I hired a stair tower. It wasn’t fit for purpose and wasn’t level. The adjustment on the legs was broken. I emailed with photographic evidence but told this wasn’t sufficient. I’ve asked for this complaint to be escalated but the Team Leader tells me the matter is closed. It’s impossible to get through on the phone. Other than the cost of a small claims court I’m not sure what else I can do to try and get a refund

So day 23 order number 242700 and STILL NO REFUND!!! Escalated 3 times to accounts (who are not customer facing!!) this company is a joke, DO NOT USE this company under any circumstances unless you can afford to pay an extra £500 for the equipment you hire. I have spent over 3 hours on the phone spoken to 1/2 dozen people none of which are able to provide any information.

Fails to deliver

Ordered some ladders at the start of the week for delivery Saturday. Made plans and arranged for help sorting my guttering. Got a phonecall on the Friday telling me they were unable to deliver. Ended up being forced to purchase a set of ladders at 3 times the cost. Absolute waste of space company to deal with.

Biggest scam going

Biggest scam going.
They outsource the hire to smaller companies and act as the middle man.
We we're delivered broken equipment, the driver then helps himself back on to our property and leaves a further broken machine.
Unable to contact the company or Mammoth so had no choice but to pay for another hire from another company.
On day of collection driver helps himself in to my garden at 7am, has a good look around (including through my patio doors, all on camera) and then leaves.
Contacted the actual company who delivered, they admitted to knowingly delivering broken equipment and said I'd be refunded through Mammoth...still waiting for a refund since the 7th of April.
They don't have a phone line, you can request a callback but good luck getting a response. They answer you on chat the first time but good luck getting anywhere after that. Their parent company is National Tool Hire (also absolutely useless). Raising a ticket does nothing either.

They tell you to send an email to the My Experience email address and then just ignore you again! Still owed my money.

Reply from Mammoth Hire

Hi Helen,

Let me start with your first point about us being a scam, you suggest this is because we outsource the hire to smaller companies.

We are a platform, like Uber, Booking com, Airbnb, Amazon, eBay, Just Eat, Go Compare, the list goes on, in fact you could say Tesco or John Lewis aggregate products and services from other companies, bring them together and sell them in store or online, the concept is not new or unique.

In terms of who we work with we work with, we work with international, national, regional and local independant supply partners. We take great care to make sure they are providing our customers with a great service at all times and need to know if anything falls down at any stage.

We have many thousands of hires each month and sometimes things don't go to plan, but we are here to help and put things right, where we can.

Which brings me on to my point of most concern, that you had a company you say "knowingly" delivered broken equipment, I'm not sure why anyone would do that, it doesn't make commercial sense, but to then have a driver looking through your windows on your property concerns me the most.

Can you provide more information on your order, as I cannot ascertain your order number from your forename alone and need more information.

i will then pursue this with the supplier and see what went on and look at your order history as well. If you have camera footage, that would help enormously too.

If you update your review with an order number we can go from there and hopefully get some resolution for you

Kind regards

Bob Jones

Broken....

I ordered a Hollow Tine Aerator, the acknowledgement was sent through to my email. The machine arrived today as expected, I say that it was dropped off on our drive, no knock at the door, no explanation as to how to use it, no instructions. After 10 mins of use two of the 'tine' pins dropped off, god knows where they are, I'm assuming in my lawn. I've been waiting 45 mins for an agent on their chat function, there are NO phone numbers. Don't do it is my experience.

Dreadful.

Finally customer service said they'd arrange am delivery next day but delivery driver said no such instruction had been given. Ladders arrived at 2 30pm and weren't even what was ordered.Collection was days after agreement, causing more stress. Complaint took 3 weeks to reply to and basically couldn't care less. I hired from Mammoth in Manchester but seemingly they're owned by National Hire. Rude and rubbish company. I'd give zero stars if possible. AVOID!

Honest review

I’m a DIY-er but principally, I work in the financial services industry where duty to the consumer isn’t just expected - it is stringently regulated. If mammoth was audited to this level, it would be shut down in an instant or fined to the point that it may as well shutdown.
Website is poor and seems underinvested. Sluggish navigation everywhere and just seems very cheap. There are hints of false advertising where the landing page will advertise at one price but not account for VAT calculations or damage waivers etc…I’ve read on trust pilot that the VATs are highlighted in another section but that’s just disingenuous.
Disingenuousness increases on trustpilot itself where the company score isn’t even highlighted due to breaches of terms/conduct.
Yikes!
Telephone number on Google doesn’t work? Have I really read that right on fellow reviews that the number will be provided on the document containing your order number so presumably you have to acquire the service first, to be awarded that privilege? Service is sparse and the only lead I had was a chatbot. at first I thought it was AI but why would it stop working after close of business?
Reviewing your competitors for similar orders, it seems alarmingly overpriced on certain things as well.
If I were to guess, the company is probably being run by individuals who work in the trade and have some understanding of running a business, but have zero clue on how to deliver on service and retention, the basic models of customer operations and how to build a successful website and integrate suitable IT solutions.
I would avoid and go to more established brands - HSS, Brandons, Smiths…my own mother at this point!

Ripped off scam

Ordered ladders on Monday and paid for priority delivery for Wednesday before 1.30.. Its now Thursday still no ladder and now the ai agent on the phone line just cuts me off ass soon as I give it my order number.. Prepaid nearly £90 and they've left me right up the creek.. The job is not finished and I now have find another hire company to get finished.. Its going to cost me another 60 from another hire place and I've lost a days wages now too waiting for ladders that didn't turn up. These guys have not delivered and cost me a small furtune... Do not use under any circumstances.. I Spoke to an agent in the end at 5 mins before Tey close for them to say I'll call you back and never did... Companies like this need to be closed down it's basically a scam and can you believe they offer and none refundable option when ordering which obviously I hit as it was £14 cheaper without... I'm so angry right now.....

Terrible company

Terrible company, do not use!
- Despite the websites claims, they don't actually have any equipment and are just middle-men who hire from other real hire companies. So when you make a booking it isn't actually reserving anything for you.
- I wanted to check my order was confirmed but they refused and said I just had to wait (and I wasn't allowed to cancel the order), and left me waiting until the morning of my hire to tell me they couldn't provide the equipment.
- It is very difficult to contact them. They have a web-chat which leaves you in queue but they don't answer (trying three or four time, waiting 2-3 hours each time someone eventually spoke to me once) and a phone number which is just an AI chat-bot that can't do anything and doesn't provide any information beyond what is on the website.
- They didn't send me any emails or texts about my order. The only contact I had was on the day of delivery they called at about 8am to say they hadn't been able to get the equipment so my order was cancelled.
- They then kept all of my money for about two weeks after cancelling my order before they refunded it.
