Second hand goods sold as new.

Ordered a roof rack online.
Got delivered used, second hand and dented.
Requested a replacement. They lie and claim it’s sold out. However it’s still for sale on the website, only the discount is less. So Makro now want me to pay more for an item I already bought, because they delivered second hand goods to me.

Overcharge and lie to you about it

Did an online order, when your order is or over R500. You get free shipping. Shipping was charged even though I qualified for free shipping. I placed the order after office hours and wasn't going to order the next day and have the order delayed by another day. I placed it thinking - I will call them and they will fix the error. I called the next day and it was confirmed there was an error and they said they will escalate... Nothing happend. So I send an email to all the relevant teams with the invoice... And they claim it is VAT... You can clearly see the breakdown of each item before and after tax, and the shipping charge is even clearly mentioned that it is shipping, and even shows the VAT on it. So I have stopped purchasing from them. The lies and trying to make me out to be a fool. I was not going to waste more time on it. Just stopped purchasing.

If I could rate Makro’s service a 0

If I could rate Makro’s service a 0, I would.

We ordered a couch that was supposed to be delivered last week, but it took over a month (plus extra days) before it finally arrived. To make matters worse, the customer service agent told my partner to “let her know if it arrives.” No! It should be their responsibility to keep the client updated.

When the couch finally arrived, the packaging was torn open and the couch itself had dirty marks on it. Makro didn’t apologize, and all they did was explain how to log a refund. An apology alone isn’t enough. Now we are expected to wait again – for collection and then for a refund whenever they decide to process it.

This has been the worst customer service experience I’ve ever had. Makro needs to offer proper compensation, a discount, or a meaningful solution – not just instructions to file a refund.

Macro Online South Africa

Dear Macro Care team,

I would like to voice my utter disappointment and anger at how your team managed this,

An oven is an expensive item, R10000, when your team realised that it is out of stock, you should have phoned me and given me the option to keep the money in Macro credit or select a different item.

Instead you did not phone, you did not email and you did not give me any options,

You just proceeded to do a refund that will only be in my account by 1 October 2025.

We have arranged installation with an Electrician and Gas guy for COC on Monday, because it was supposed to be delivered today.

This is unacceptable,

Because of this I will definitively not buy any big appliances from Macro again

Training to be provided to Sales Consultants who sell Defy washing machines to customers we need detailed information so we do not have problems with your upgraded new washing machines

I bought a Defy washing machine and believe me I was supper excited to use it, however I was so frustrated with using the washing machine for the first time due to it having new and more advanced features from the previous Defy washing machine I was use to using.

Not Enough details was provided by the Makro Consultant which was assisting me, Defy needs to Train the Staff of all the Companies they sell washing machine to because small details like the washing machine feet that is not standing correctly can cause an massive noise there was a piece of the unwrapping that was under the washing machine which i did not notice due to being so excited to use the washing machine which cause noise to levels where I was starting to stress The Defy Technician came out and all he did was adjust the washing machine feet and remove the unwrapping from under the washing machine and there was silence now i'm enjoying using the washing machine once again these small details made a huge difference i went to review the Defy washing machine and the amount of negative comments on there was mind blowing people having the same bad experience with not being provided with a short breakdown of how to use the washing machine by consultants that is not trained in Shops

I will never buy another Brand when it comes to a washing Machine Defy is the one I would choose over and over, but I do expect detailed information the next time I buy a washing machine Defy you can provide Sales Consults with Training that way you wont be receiving the negative comments from people who is just looking at doing washing comfortable with a reasonable price range the other problem i was experiencing was foam coming out of the washing powder section and ques what the only thing i had to do was lift the section inside the washing machine powder section and that could also have been avoided if the Sales consultant was trained and had detailed information to provide all the customers with

What if i did not buy the warrantee with the washing machine I would have had to pay to get a Technician out to assist me I was just lucky I could afford it but what about other people who bought Defy washing machines which did not take out the warrantee and had the same problems please please please Defy please provide Sales Consultants with detailed information when they sell any of your quality products

Be wary of ordering online

Be wary of ordering online and requesting a refund.

I ordered a baby high chair and it came in the wrong colour.
I resealed the box and requested a refund as an exchange is not an option from Makro.

There is no damage to the product as it was opened and resealed immediately.
Makro has received the high chair and it's been over 2 months with the financing team still tending to the matter.

No one can give me a timeline for the refund to be issued and for that, how long will I wait until my money is returned?

No delivery…. And still no refund two weeks later

I placed an order online for readily available HP ink cartridges. They had not arrived after a week so I followed up.
They assured me I would receive the order in the next couple of days. I received 1/2 the order with no explanation and followed up again. They said the other two cartridges would follow but then a couple of days later I got a message to say my order was cancelled as they were out of stock. I checked their website where it showed they were readily available but they insisted that particular supplier couldn’t fulfill my order. I still have not received a refund. MAKRO SERVICE SUCKS

Appalling customer service

30-day delivery time and date were not visible on the purchase page of the website(in fact, quite the opposite)(with screenshot proof) – all communication since about the product has been uninformative, unhelpful, unproactive and one of the worst customer experiences I have ever had. Will never buy online from them again.

I have ordered three times online

I have ordered three times online. Twice the order has been cancelled by the seller and the third time a far lower item was delivered. Looks like they are rolling money to earn interest. Don't waste your time ordering from Makro online

Extremely Disappointed with Makro & Marketplace Seller

I am writing this review to share my terrible experience with Makro and their Marketplace. I recently purchased a laptop from Makro Online, only to find that it was faulty and did not work properly. I immediately went through the proper process of logging a return. The item was collected from me, and I expected my refund to be processed.

To my shock, instead of receiving my money back, I was informed that the seller had rejected the return — even though the product they sold me was faulty. How can a seller reject their own defective item? And worse, Makro is allowing this to happen, leaving me stuck with no money and no working laptop.

I have been going back and forth with both Makro and the seller for weeks. Every time I chat with Makro, I have to repeat myself because they don’t seem to have proper records of my case. I was told one thing by Makro (that the courier will collect, that the return is logged, etc.), only for the seller (Qstore) to say something completely different. At one point, Makro even tried to send the broken laptop back to me, which I made it clear I do not want.

This has been an exhausting and frustrating process. I paid good money for a laptop that doesn’t work, and instead of standing by the customer, Makro is siding with the Marketplace seller and refusing to refund me. This is completely unacceptable for a company of their size.

Makro needs to take responsibility for products sold on their platform. Customers should not be left fighting between Makro and Marketplace sellers with no resolution. As it stands, I’ve lost money, wasted my time, and been treated unfairly.

I will never order from Makro Online or their Marketplace again, and I strongly caution others to be very careful before making any purchase from them. If anything goes wrong, don’t expect them to help you — they will just pass you around until you give up.

Incorrect advertisement and terrible customer experience

I bought an Air Fryer on the 27th of July, they advertised it as a white product under product specifications, when I received the item on the 31st, I got home and opened it, it was black, I logged a return and the product was collected, I specifically said that I needed a white one, I just want them to swap it out of which they didn't, I kept calling and was told that it went for assessment, after that I was told it's been delivered back to me, which is false cause I haven't received the product, as I'm typing today the 18th of August, I got an email this morning saying the refund has been approved and will take 7-14 business days. When I have waited for weeks for the correct air fryer still they don't care and now I must wait another 2 weeks to get my money back. Absolutely terrible and disgusting customer experience.

EXTREMELY Damaging to Makro

This is extremely damaging to Makro’s brand. You advertised an Amazon Fire TV Stick 4K, but what I received is a cheap knock-off posing as the real thing – complete with a fake Amazon-branded orange box, the original barcode covered with a supplier’s sticker, and a remote made to look identical to the original (but in cheap plastic). The stick itself isn’t even the right shape and came with an odd remote receiver. This is a deceitful attempt to pass off a counterfeit as genuine. If Amazon’s legal team is alerted, Makro could face investigation. I want someone from Makro to contact me immediately to resolve this before it escalates further.

BEWARE

BEWARE! Could not be worse. Impossible to log a return because the site doesn't update and they don't respond to contact. So even if you buy something faulty you have no recourse.
Save yourself the pain and headaches and choose an online store that is functional.

Poor online service from Makro

Poor online service from Makro, I bought groceries on the 3rd of August was promised delivery on Tuesday 5th Aug, till this on the 12th I am waiting for the delivery and it is grocery that I am talking here. Some items were canceled without even an explanation and it can't be that it was out of stock because when I went I to purchase again they accepted.

Unacceptable Service, Delayed Refund & No Access to Finance Department – Makro Order Placed 13 July

I am extremely disappointed with the service I have received from Makro regarding my recent order placed on 13 July.

At no point was I informed that the order could not be fulfilled. For the past two weeks, I have phoned numerous times, only to be told by call centre agents that the matter was “escalated to finance” – with no resolution or proper feedback.

The call centre cannot put you through to the finance department or provide a direct contact number. Apparently, they “communicate via tickets that are logged” – leaving the customer with no way to follow up directly.

On more than four occasions, I have held on the line for over 45 minutes, only to be given the same scripted response.

Now, after all this delay and lack of communication, I am told I will receive a refund – but that it will take up to 14 days to process. This is highly inconvenient and unacceptable.

I operate a guesthouse and urgently needed the items I ordered. Due to Makro’s failure to deliver and communicate appropriately, I have been forced to purchase the items elsewhere and cannot wait an additional two weeks for my funds.

What is most concerning is that there are numerous complaints online identical to mine – all about unfulfilled orders, long delays, and refund issues. This points to a much bigger problem within Makro that needs urgent attention.

I have already escalated this matter to HelloPeter, the Consumer Commission, and Carte Blanche for public exposure, as I believe this is not an isolated incident but part of a serious systemic issue at Makro.

I expect the refund to reflect in my account with immediate effect

Makro – please handle this with the urgency and transparency it deserves.
