Seems crazy. I'd prefer to store my own cask in my own cellar....and enjoy drinking it!
Had a very informative and helpful reply from the company. I was clearly wrong and failed to understand the subtleties of owning a cask of whisky. I just imagined happy Hogmanays to come. Thank you to Mcinnes Whisky.

I am delighted to say that every person in our TV advert works for us. Jonathan, Theresa, Sam, Ben, & Thomas are all a part of the MacInnes team.
To answer your question, the intention is that the whisky will indeed be drunk, but at a time when it has reached its very best condition. As the whisky matures, its potential value to customers also matures. Our role is to facilitate and enable customers to access the opportunity of purchasing a whole cask.
If a customer were to buy a cask and wish to store it in their own cellar, they could do so. However, they would first need to pay the duty on the whisky the moment it leaves a HMRC-approved duty-bonded warehouse. This is the reason casks are typically stored in a bonded warehouse until the whisky is to be bottled and sold, or drunk, thereby delaying the payment of duty on the contents of the cask until a sale or final value is realised.

Entry into the whisky market
I recently invested in whisky casks with MacInnes. Whilst I'm an experienced investor, I am new this asset class and it was a very positive entry into the market! Jon and the team are experts in their field and highly experienced. The tax efficiency of this particular investment was one of the main draws for me, something that Jon can advise on as a chartered accountant, with his own accountancy practice in the UK.
