Excellent customer service

I meant to write this review a year ago - better late than never.
I sold my old Mac Pro to macback - and, unfortunately, the courier damaged the item in transit. I was prepared for a long fight (or giving up), but Macback contacted me proactively, I sent them back a photo of the item as it was packaged, and they initiated the payment immediately and dealt with the claim with the courier themselves. Top notch service.

poor customer service

Macback's customer service is poor. They can't really assist. While the automated system helps to a certain extent, human intervention is necessary at times because of DPD's extremely poor service. They are practically a useless courier.

From our records, the issue was unfortunately related to DPD’s delivery attempts, not a lack of assistance from our side. We actually arranged and dispatched three separate packaging boxes at our own cost after DPD failed to deliver correctly to the address. Each time, we chased the courier through their customer service channels, although as with all courier accounts, we are required to go through their central support team, who typically advise that delivery will be reattempted the following day.

We fully appreciate how frustrating this must have been — it was equally frustrating for us, as it required significant admin time and repeated follow-ups. Thankfully, the third box was delivered and collected on the requested day without issue.

While we cannot directly control DPD’s operational performance once a booking is handed over, we do everything we can to resolve courier problems when they arise, including absorbing additional costs where necessary.

We’re sorry this part of the process impacted your view of the service and appreciate you taking the time to share your experience.

I was pleased with the estimate I…

I was pleased with the estimate I received, even though it was higher than those from other companies I considered. I appreciated that they arranged for someone to collect my iMac, saving me the trip to drop it off. While there were some communication hiccups that caused a bit of concern, we eventually resolved them. I would likely choose this company again in the future.

Really Pleased with the Service

Macback was recommended to us by a friend and I'm really pleased with the service. My Mac was picked up as agreed and the driver came with all the necessary packing materials. Two days later I received confirmation that the Mac was as described and I received the agreed sum the following day. A great company to deal with and would definitely recommend.

Good Quote

I was happy with the quote I filled out and surprised that it was more than the other companies I looked at.

It was great that they got someone to pick up my iMac so I didn't need to go somewhere to drop it off.

The only issues I had were the communication which did get me a bit worried, but we managed to sort it out.

I most likely use this company again in the future.

Rather go to MusicMagpie

I've used MacBack 3 times over a few years. First transaction went fine. Second one I was offered a lower value than the quote for various reasons. I negotiated and got them to increase their offer. Recently, I got a quote for a Macbook Pro M1 and the online valuation stated £370. Not only did it take MacBack over a week and a half to grade it (48 hours turnaround on their website) but they came back with a ludicrous revised offer of £208! Listed all kinds of damage. I had pictures taken beforehand and passed it back to them stating I would accept no less than £320. Their response was they had "better lighting" so could see things I did not. Once they returned my laptop I sent it straight off to MusicMagpie. 4 Day turnaround and they paid me £390 same day. I have 2 more Macs to sell and I will not be using MackBack for that again.

To clarify a few points for transparency: you’ve traded in four machines with us in total. Of those, three were submitted as Grade B and one as Grade C, however on inspection all four were graded as Grade C by our technicians. This was primarily due to chips and scratches on the casing, which place devices outside our Grade B criteria. Our grading is based on resale standards and consistency across all assessments.

Regarding the MacBook Pro M1, the revised offer reflected the condition identified during inspection. While we understand your frustration, differences can sometimes be more apparent under controlled inspection lighting, which is why we always explain any changes and give customers full choice on how to proceed.

You were, of course, under no obligation to accept the revised valuation, and we returned the device to you once you declined.

We never aim to disappoint repeat customers, and we’re sorry this experience didn’t meet your expectations. Feedback like this is taken seriously and reviewed internally.

Deductions

Sold my iMac and was happy with price quoted after an honest assessment of my machine. Once they received it, they deducted £30 for not including a mouse and keyboard. Nowhere on the iMac page or quote process does it say that these need to be included. And assumed that this would be ok as i was just selling them an “iMac”, not an ‘iMac and keyboard and mouse’. Even the greeting image on their iMac page is just an iMac, and nothing else. I reluctantly accepted the price, but recommended they updated their website to be more clear on this (not just a part in the FAQ section about including accessories, which is open to interpretation). A week has now gone by and no update has been made to the website, so this negative review has been submitted.

It’s a shame that my email containing my disappointment and recommendation was not even acknowledged (like the thorough reply below), as we wouldn't be here. I did read the grading, though when i reached the grade i honestly thought my iMac was, i read the next grade on, then i didn't read further, why would i? Upon checking again, The keyboard and mouse information is further down, perhaps that should be at the top, as its relevant to all grades? I was aware of being able to receive it back for free, however your one of the only recyclers paying for older iMacs, and had i have known the money to be received would now be so low, I probably wouldn't have bothered.

To clarify, our grading page clearly states:

“All items are to be supplied with a UK keyboard and iMacs and items using external peripherals must be supplied with an official Apple keyboard and mouse to avoid payment deduction.”

In addition, during the quote process, when selecting the grading option, clicking the “i” information icon shows this requirement in bold, stating:

“iMacs must include the original keyboard and mouse to avoid a payment deduction.”

Because the keyboard and mouse were not included with the iMac, a standard deduction was applied. This relates specifically to the accessories required for resale, rather than the condition of the computer itself.

We do understand your point about visibility and appreciate the suggestion to make this even clearer earlier in the quote journey. Feedback like this is genuinely helpful and is reviewed as part of our ongoing improvements.

You were, of course, under no obligation to accept the revised offer and could have had the iMac returned free of charge. Once the revised price was accepted, payment was processed as agreed.

Decent company and experience

Happy with my experience with macback and the quote. Probably could have made a little more money if I sold privately but it comes with risks and I have already been scammed before. I like that you don't need to worry about post/packaging although like a previous review mentioned, it would be nice for a little email update of some sorts to let you know they have received your laptop and it is being tested. That being said they did provide info with their email quote on how to go on their website and see updates for yourself. I did end up emailing them to make sure everything was okay and they replied quickly and eased my mind. Received my payment a couple of days after they received my laptop. I would definitely recommend to anyone wanting to sell their laptop without worry.

Best Mac resale service - 10/10

I've used MacBack twice now and wouldn't shop around for another selling service. They arrive with a padded case for your device, and give substantially more than any other service.
