Stay away from this business...

Okay, so this is a really late review. I had a painting framed in March/April (4 months ago), but the service was so incredibly terrible that I STILL want to write a review. Let me also say, I have used this framer many times, for everything from concert posters to wedding pictures to my own very (very, very) amateur photography. The last time before 2014 that I used the framer was in 2009. So there has been a bit of a time gap since. I have until 2014 been very satisfied with the service and quality of framing.

So, I had my mom bring a large watercolor painting to me in Denmark. We took it in mid-week and picked a frame. The woman helping us (a middle-aged woman, I think her name is Anne Marie) recommended a specific frame based on my color and size preference. I agreed to this frame. As we finished in the shop, I asked when I could expect it to be finished. She said they would get to it the following week, as they had to press it flat. Fine, totally fair. A full two weeks later I hadn't heard anything from them. I called three times over the next two days because either they said they would call back and didn't, or because I talked to some unknowing assistant who couldn't answer my questions. Finally, after three calls over two days, I get a call back from the middle-aged woman on Saturday morning. She says that the frame is out of stock and recommends another, in other words, they haven't even started the framing... She says they won't have the original frame for approximately two more weeks. I'm pretty irritated by the dodginess of the service and the fact that they didn't inform me that the frame was out of stock. She says she can send me a picture of the alternate frame via SMS, if I approve it, the framer (an older gentleman) can get to it "om en halv time", finish it that very day and I can pick it up that afternoon. She tells me that they close shop at 13 or 14, can't remember, but that they are there anyway, working in the back, so I can just knock and pick it up. I, at this point, am totally thrilled and feel like they are more than making up for the dodginess. So I patiently wait... and wait.... and wait.... SHE DOESN'T SEND ME A PICTURE. I call back two hours later to hear what is going on. I get an assistant who says the woman has stepped out of the shop and offers to give her a message from me. At this point I'm just shocked that this lady can lie so blatantly to me on the phone and tell me she will do something in two minutes that she then doesn't do! So I, very impatiently, tell the assistant to have her call me. AGAIN. The day ends with no call, no SMS, no picture, nothing. That was Saturday. Sunday they are closed. Monday I get a picture via SMS (at 10:06 a.m. - she must have known I was going to be her first phone call if she didn't contact me first) of my painting and a frame with the note: "Rammen er klar til afhentning i morgen kl 16 med den rigtige ramme". Uhhh, ok... So they miraculously received the right frame on Sunday. When I picked it up on Tuesday, she acted as if nothing weird had transpired and so I guess this was the normal standard of service for them. My husband wanted me to complain and make them own up to the erratic service, but I just wanted to pay and be done with it. I paid full price and was not offered any compensation.

I totally understand that my little painting is not their biggest order, nor am I a fancy company or art museum. But it was truly horrible service. Promising to call back, not doing it. Promising to give Anne Marie a message, not doing it. Promising to send an SMS, not doing it. Saying they didn't have my frame, but suddenly having it. I have no problem with the time line, things take time and businesses have busy times, so I am fine with waiting, just don't tell me otherwise and not follow through!

The quality of the frame is fine, I would have given it 4 stars alone, but the service was so weird that it was definitely a 1-star experience. To summarize, if I had to give any advice, I'd say get a date for completion and a price BEFOREHAND.
