Lunii Storyteller failed during sync after 6 years—support pushed repairs instead of simple SD fix
Our Lunii Storyteller (bought ~2019) suddenly died mid-sync with new stories on Dec 24, 2025. Charged fine (green LED), but wouldn't power on. Support asked for basics (charge, USB looseness) and invoice, then offered paid repair (€25) or refurbished unit (€35 + shipping)—despite out-of-warranty status.
No mention of common SD card issue (known per their FAQ: ERROR logo = SD error). I opened it myself, found fried original microSD, replaced with new 1GB formatted card, and fixed it after hours of tinkering. They only suggested format after I mentioned opening it.
Refunded my recent stories (good), but poor support for a €10 part fix. Won't buy again. Parents: Yoto is a better alternative with easier repairs
I genuinely cannot believe this is how this product is supposed to work.
We bought Lunii as a French–English storytelling device. In reality, the experience is a nightmare.
The language is locked at first setup with no way to change it later, even after a factory reset. I initially chose French, but my child speaks much more English. Since I am on the UK App Store, the logical solution would be to switch the device to English to access more content — but this is simply impossible.
The available stories depend on the App Store country and account configuration. After hours of trying, resetting, changing settings and accounts, the app still shows no available stories at all. No clear explanation, no warning, just an empty catalogue.
On top of that, most stories are paid, even after buying an already expensive device. This was not clearly communicated and feels like a cash grab. this product is confusing, poorly designed and completely unfit for international or bilingual families. Huge waste of time and extremely disappointing. I would not recommend this product outside France.
I bought a Lunii Flam on October 30th for my son’s birthday, which was on November 7th. Unfortunately, the device has never worked from the very first use.
I contacted customer service immediately, but the handling has been extremely disappointing: I receive replies only after many days, each time asking for different documents and information in separate emails (product identification number, invoice photo, then additional requests again) — all of which could have been asked in a single initial message.
It has now been almost a month, and despite having provided everything requested, I still have not received any solution or replacement for the defective product.
Customer service even asked me to send the product back for repair at my own expense (!!)
Not only is this unacceptable, it is also not compliant with the law. The European Directive (EU) 2019/771 states that “the seller is liable to the consumer for any lack of conformity that exists at the time when the goods were delivered” (Art. 10), and that “the consumer shall be entitled to have the goods brought into conformity, free of charge, by repair or replacement; or, if this is not possible or not done within a reasonable time, to a price reduction or to the termination of the contract with a refund” (Art. 13).
I expect an immediate replacement or a full refund, as guaranteed by European consumer protection laws.
Sadly, at this stage I strongly advise against purchasing this product, both due to the quality (in my case unusable) and, above all, because of the poor after-sales service.
Stories are great but the boxes always break down, don’t turn on, freeze….

Highly frustrating for kids and parents alike
The stories are great! My kids loved them, especially the French ones. The app is slow and buggy, but just about usable (I would give it 2 stars).
The real issue (buyer beware) is that you're locked into a closed Lunii ecosystem with the Lunii 'My Fabulous Storyteller' player — but the build quality of these is substandard. We bought two (one for both of our kids). The kids used them every day but both the devices broke within a few months because the big yellow scroll wheel — essential for choosing a story/character/journey — breaks easily (it's soldered directly onto the motherboard), as does the headphone port/jack.
We replaced both devices but both of the new devices also broke in the same way. This meant we spent €320 on four boxes but don't have even one working device. Support were not helpful at all so, ultimately, I wouldn't recommend Lunii. Great stories, terrible build quality.
WiFi gets disconnected often. Connecting via USB cable to the Mac app doesn't work all the time, and accessing settings needs improvement. Most of the time, purchasing from the mobile app doesn't work and gives an error.
Super bad product! Do not buy!
My daughter has three, one from us and two from her grandparents. It is always a nightmare to download the purchased stories using the phone app and computer app. The stories are super expensive and her two first boxes stopped working after a few weeks. She loves listening to the stories, but why is it so difficult to use!! Should be way more user friendly!!

I sent 2 lunii to their official repair service few weeks ago :
One lunii wouldn't charge after 10 months use,
The other was a Christmas present and the selection button was faulty after 1 week!!!
I am from Ireland, had to sent the luniis to
France to my parents to get them back, as they don't support postage from there...
Anyway what a surprise when the lunii who couldn't get charged was not fixed at reception!!!
Their explanation was that it might have been damaged during postage/transport.
Like there is an post/Colissimo's fairy plugging and damaging luniis during transport... Now, according to their email I have to sent it again, pay international fee again to hope the problem will be fixed. Their repair service never fixed or checked the lunii before to sent it back and they won't admit it.
Terrible service, not worst the hassle and poor customer service.

The devices keep breaking after a week or a month. sound, usb, just a new thing every time. And company is absolute no help. will not fix or replace. Cheap product with unhelpful company.

I really like the concept of the Lunii product and therefore, after owning 2 Lunii boxes who broke I decided to give it a 3rd attempt and buy a FLAM. Living in Denmark, it turns out that I cannot use the product I purchased. The information on this topic in Lunii's website was misleading as it stands that you can still use it through the computer app. This is however NOT the case. Only the smartphone app enables you to use the FLAM and the app is only available in a handful of countries. 2) I contacted customer support to help me with the above: the information was incorrect, no apologies for the problem and no commercial gesture. The support person concluded saying that they cannot do anything for me so I'm stuck with a product that I gave my kid for Christmas and it is not usable (cannot even be turned on).

My daughter got gifted a Lunii, I started it and in the box I have a QR code which should allow me to have one audiobook for free, but which instead directs me to the main website where I can only pay for the audiobooks. Same, the link to "get your first audio book for free" in the welcome email directs me to the same website. I also subscribed to the newsletter, they sent me an email with a code to get 10% discount on my first purchase of an audio book from the website, but when I try and complete the purchase the code is not valid. So basically can only purchase (quite expensive) audio books at FULL PRICE from the website... and the Customer Service to whom I wrote twice did not even acknowledge my emails. Very bad service!!!!
Smart, kid- and parent-friendly product, wonderful stories, a great IX/UI on the website, fair prices: Lunii does it all right and it’s an indispensable gift for kids to slow down phone or tablet creep.
I had bought the story factory in 2020 on Amazon for the ability to record my voice and upload recordings, children really like to listen to stories made up by their parents, and I uploaded many recordings (over 1 hour of personal recordings). On 02/21/2024 after an automatic software update (which did not even ask permission to be performed) a limitation was added whereby recordings over 30 minutes cannot be uploaded, a limitation that was added without any notice and which nullifies the functionality for which I had purchased it. I have sent a complaint to the manufacturer. I do not recommend the purchase, better to buy a small audio recorder: it works better, it does not emit radio frequencies, and you do not suffer the blackmail of software updates that take away functionality from the device. Who would trust this manufacturer who first sells you a product that does things and then limits or disables them? Would you buy a car that goes 200 km/h and after a few years the manufacturer limits it to 50 km/h without even asking permission or compensating the customer?
Terrible custom service! We have 2 units that are not working, customer service does not respond to any of my emails. I contacted them through facebook messenger and they insist i write to them on some odd looking email that looks like phishing, when I asked them to contact me first they refused saying i had to contact their bizarre and unofficial looking email address. I don't know what to do next! There is no phone number for them.

They changed policy without notice limiting to less than 1% of storage
I placed my order end of November and my initial confirmation email stated I would receive my product by December 4th. It's December 22 and I still have no received the full order - lunii experience pack.
1 issue: the original package got damaged or lost somewhere and was returned back to sender.
2 issue: took ages to get them to respond and reship my package.
3 issue: I received only the radio and NOT the headphones
4 issue: sent photos of the package, packaging and everything to ask about the missing headphones, it took them ages to respond.
5 issue: they told me the missing headphones were reshipped BUT there is no tracking number, I've requested for the tracking number and of course it's a NO.
6 issue: it's literally 2 days before Christmas weekend and I still have not received what I have paid for end of November. My messages are not being responded to.
I am regretting my decision and waiting until I can contest the charge with my bank and purchase an alternative gift, either jookie, tonie or yoto.
