Look at a Lucy Pittaway painting, and you can’t help but smile. There’s a real-life story in each work of art, which is more often than not inspired by the sights and sounds of her life in the Yorkshire Dales and those closest to her. Now a multi award-winning artist, proudly running a family-owned business with a website serving international customers, three beautiful art galleries and a great team, read on to find out how the world of Lucy Pittaway came to fruition. Graduating from Northumbria University with a degree in Graphic Design, Lucy forged a career as a designer before moving into teaching and lecturing at Darlington Technical College of Art and Design. Intrigued by the world outside the North East, Lucy quit her job at the age of 30, to travel to the Far East, where she ended up in South America and began teaching in Peru. They say the greatest things happen when we are not expecting them… and on a fleeting visit back to the UK, Lucy was reunited with her childhood sweetheart Neil, who persuaded her not to return to Peru, and instead stay in Yorkshire. They went on to get married and start a family, which is the subject of much of Lucy’s work today. Once their twins started school, she felt it was the perfect time to pursue her lifelong dream and give life as a professional artist a try. So, she began working from her small home studio, creating one off commissions and prints for exhibitions. Fast forward to today, and you’ll find Lucy’s work in homes and galleries across the UK and international destinations.

Can’t believe I’m having to write this because I’m so disappointed in what’s happened. Patiently waited until Black Friday to order a number of diffusers for gifts because I loved mine SO much after purchasing one in store. Stock was available in the days leading up (I kept checking) however as soon as they were discounted, every home fragrance conveniently was out of stock. I’ve just gone onto the website now, lo and behold everything is back in stock at full price. Shameless. I am so sad that a company would intentionally mislead their customers like this.
Excellent customer service!
I recently purchased a print for our living room from the York store, but realised it was too small for the wall which it was intended. While passing the York store, I went in to ask whether I could exchange it for the exact same print in a larger size. The sales assistant was extremely helpful and assured me this would be no problem, advising me to bring it back next time I was in York.
I have now exchanged this for a larger picture and I am extremely pleased with their service in York. The picture looks fantastic on the wall.
Outstanding customer service
I recently ordered 3 framed prints. Unfortunately when one of the prints arrived there was a crack in the glass. I emailed customer services and received a response from Michelle, she apologised and arranged for the delivery of a replacement along with the collection of the damaged print. I have been really impressed with the customer service that I received from Michelle and we now have Night on the Shambles up on the wall. Highly recommend Lucy’s artwork and the great team she has working for her.
Lucy’s art brought us into the shop—but the shop assistant’s attitude pushed us right back out
On Sunday, 27 April at 12:58, I visited the Newcastle shop with my family.
We were looking for artwork to decorate our home, and were immediately drawn to the originality and vibrant colours of the pictures displayed in the window.
One piece, in particular, seemed like a perfect fit for one specific bedroom, so we decided to step inside and explore further.
From the moment we entered, our interest turned from casual browsing to genuine consideration.
Shortly after we walked in, a shop assistant approached us.
After exchanging a few words, she started asking personal questions.
My focus was on the artwork and learning more about the artist's background, creative process, and inspirations.
Despite my subtle cues to steer the conversation toward the artwork, the assistant insisted several times asking personal questions.
Her persistence created an awkward and uncomfortable situation.
While I appreciated that the shop assistant was trying to establish a connection before introducing the sale, I felt she should have been more aware of the discomfort her questions were causing us.
Lucy’s art brought us into the shop—but the shop assistant’s attitude pushed us right back out.

Hidden Delivery Charges EU
Unfortunately I really did not want to give a low score but customer service is not great in my circumstance.
I ordered a print to be delivered to Spain and checked under the delivery info if there was any responsibility of customs and taxes to pay. Nowhere under this section did it mention it. There was a delivery charge to pay which was fine and I stupidly assumed as no mention of anything else that the extra charges must be included in the fee.
I have now received a customs charge of over £75 extra to pay on delivery!
I phoned up customer services to say that there is no mention of this extra charge under delivery to be told it is in the small print under T&Cs. Why would I look there when it should have been clearly pointed out in the delivery description.
I feel like it was hidden and has caught me out. I asked if they would do a gesture of goodwill and refund me £30 to help towards the extra fee but the answer was a straight NO. They cannot do anything to help. Of course they could if they cared enough about customer service.
Such a shame when the products are so beautiful.

Always a very good service
Always a very good service. Artwork packaged very securely. Only criticism, although certainly not a complaint is the fact that we kept receiving requests for feedback prior to delivery and so assumed that something was amiss with delivery

Love the diary!
Love the diary as it reminds me of my two sleepy dachshunds! Gave one star less as I would have liked a ribbon to save my pages.

Stunning pictures which we promised to treat ourselves to after a visit to York from the Midlands. Had been told free delivery over £80 and it was mentioned on the website but we were disappointed to be charged £20. Apparently the offer was removed before the sale but our picture was over £300 and not a sale item. Won’t detract from our lovely picture which will have pride of place but was a niggle and something to watch out for.
As an update, picture was left in garden and no tracking information was provided to alert us when to expect delivery- well packaged luckily!
