Second stay - Woodland Lodge

This is my second stay at Love2stay (Mid-wales site) and I honestly, really love the site. I stayed in one of the Wren's Nest 3, September 2025 which was absolutely amazing!

From this point, I will only discuss my stay in one of the woodland lodges Feb 2026. Firstly, once again, the swimming pool, communal jacuzzi, gym, steam room and sauna are lovely and I appreciated making more use of them this time - the woodland lodge was situated closer to the main building which made it a very short walk over even in the rain with no issue. The reception staff are friendly and always so helpful with answering any queries - they are a true asset to the company.

The cabin itself was lovely with attention to detail in many areas. I am an avid review reader (though only recently started putting in effort into actually writing them myself) so finding so many little things throughout that proved that they listen and try to act on any issues is a good sign of an organisation that cares about its customers and clients.

The woodland lodge is a tad small for a group of 5 adults (of which 3 were 55-65) but IS absolutely perfect for a young family with 2-4 children. The sofa was comfortable, the entire unit was clean, pleasantly surprised by the gas hob and to be honest, my only complaints are that the screen for the hot tub has seen better days (it worked still) - which was fine and that the view we had did look out onto a bay of cars and other units with just the peak of hills poking out in between them, which is a shame as me and my sister had brought watercolour supplies and it was very wet to leave and paint outdoors which meant we couldn't just sit and paint looking out of the french doors - however, I booked last minute so I know what to avoid when next booking and yes I definitely plan to visit again.

I definitely preferred the Wren's Nest but it is much more spacious and I'm a sucker for a kitchen island in all fairness. I'd love to try some of the other units they have on site just to see the variations.

Stay in Love2stay in Mid Wales

I had the opportunity to stay in a Woodland 2-bedroom lodge with my husband. The lodge itself was very clean, and we were able to enjoy some beautiful views from it. The hot tub was also clean and maintained a pleasant temperature. However, we found its proximity to other lodges to be a bit close.

We regret to inform you that our stay was cut short by a day due to noise
disturbances originating from Lodge 22 on the previous night. A group of four individuals occupied the hot tub adjacent to our lodge beyond 10 p.m., and their conversations and laughter were quite disruptive, preventing us from getting adequate rest. Additionally, an outdoor fire pit was situated in close proximity between the lodges, directly beside the kitchen window of our accommodation, which we found to be less than ideal for a relaxing stay.
Furthermore, we had specifically booked this lodge under the impression that it would feature two bathrooms. Upon our arrival, we discovered there was only one full bathroom, with the main bedroom offering an en-suite toilet facility only. The website indicated the presence of two bathrooms which is not accurate description.
On a positive note, the reception staff were very friendly and accommodating. We thoroughly enjoyed our time utilizing the swimming pool and sauna facilities. However, we would like to point out that the changing rooms are unisex, which may not be preferred by all guests. We also noticed the absence of drinking water facilities near the sauna.

For those seeking a tranquil experience at the lodge and spa, we recommend considering a stay at the Devon Hawkchurch, as children are not permitted in the spa area there. There are also tables and chairs on the decking over there. There weren't table and chairs on the decking in the woodland lodge.

Loved the stay

Love the visits we’ve had here. Site is spacious and well maintained. Pitches are good with all the things we need. Good facilities for the dog too. Staff have been friendly when we’ve spoken to them. Showers and toilets very clean. Don’t know if I’d like to visit in a school holiday but it’s been excellent for our visits.

On arrival van smelt of cigarette smoke and we were told its the fire!
Ordered tuna AND sweetcorn sandwich WITH salad. See below. When questioned we found staff all 7 of them in the kitchen area drinking cans of coke and coffee and they just stared at us the rest of our time there and no one took charge and resolved the matter.

Glamping with hot tub & kids

We stayed in one of the glamping units - it was nice and mostly clean (bar a few areas such as the edges of carpet where I found a few m&ms 🤣) well equipped - all the kitchen utensils you need, nice bedding from Soak & Sleep, decent shower, robes - could do with some extra hangers in the wardrobes as there were only 4. The hot tub was great and always warm.

Our main issue was our TV / WiFi. Our unit initially has no WiFi so we had to piggy back off another unit, but the signal was weak. We raised it with reception who did send someone out to check it. We then got internet, but no connection for the remainder of our stay and due to it now being a weekend there was no one from IT to come and sort it out. This meant we had no TV signal on Freeview and when we piggy backed off the other units our signal was iffy with pixelated images. It was a rainy weekend so we did want the TV/ WiFi more than we usually would.

The other facilities were nice. The outdoor area is lovely and well maintained. The pool (freezing!) but really pretty. The splash area was warmer and the kids enjoyed it. The play park is great. The kids also did the assault course which they enjoyed.

The staff were friendly and helpful. The site was well run. I'd definitely recommend and would go again.

Unhappy customer

This site only cares if you have bought a motor home or caravan from them

When booking our 2 night stay we were told that we could book some activities with them when we arrive.
We wanted to have a go at paddle boarding and I wanted a spa treatment
When we went to book we were told oh we don't start them until the weekend, we said that you told us that we could book them when we arrive only to be told that oh it can't be helped
We wouldn't of booked to go there if that was the case
Couldn't even get in the pool because half of Shrewsbury was in there.
When booking we said that we had a dog and they couldn't of put us any further away from the dog exercise area if they tried
We went to the barbeque area were 2dogs came running at us, aren't dogs supposed to be kept on leads
We will never return here, it was the worst site we have ever been on
Very upsetting and not worth the money.

Weekend break with 3 and 6 year old…

Weekend break with 3 and 6 year old grandchildren.
We anticipated a 'slow' weekend and arrived with all the pizza and hot choc by the firepit kit!
Children loved the play area and 'beach' with splash pool. We didn't use the bio pool as too cold for little ones but we happily sat drinking coffees whilst watching others! The glamping pod/m9bile home was kitted out for every eventuality and we all loved it. Wifi connection worked but no Internet available for some reason. A lovely relaxing weekend and we will return (with mummy and daddy next time!). They can cope better with 5am starts!! Thank you

Mixed review

Mixed review
This is a mixed review for the Shrewsbury site of Love2Stay, as our young children did enjoy the stay and the limited facilities but there were some negatives. We stayed in a safari lodge which wasn’t the cleanest. The floors were incredibly dirty and the kitchen worktops and fridge smelt really bad, even after I cleaned them. However the space inside was good for a family and had the essentials.
The facilities on site were very limited and strict with early finishes. The beach area and outdoor pool was good for young children, however did close around 5/6. The adult outside pool also closed late afternoon, and even the on-site cafe/bar stopped serving food etc at 5.30pm, which for families on holiday, and the only onsite food and drink place, seemed ridiculously early. The staff in the cafe seemed to be mostly young women with a less than friendly/professional approach. And the food in there was honestly terrible. I didn’t see a single person in the three days we were there actually eating in there.
There were supposedly activities like T shirt tie dying and pebble painting but these weren’t on the whole time we were there.
The park was spacious but did seem mostly catered to older children, but I think on the whole older children would be bored at this site with not much to do. If you have very young children, under 6 maybe, and you wanted a very quiet holiday this would be an easy choice. I haven’t stayed in the other accommodations so I can’t comment on those but the site as a whole was pleasant.

Well a good clean site

Well a great site. The site is clean and tidy, The kids loved it and kept them busy.
Down sides are due to the pure size of the site and he number of touring pitches, there doesn't seem to be enough toilets as every morning we found ourselves having to que to use them, and kids running ferrel abusing the clean shower facilities, Apart from that we had a good stay..

What a great site

What a great site. Spotlessly clean, not over crowded, spacious pitches and first class toilet and washing facilities. The pools and hot tubs are great for all ages and the playground and open grass spaces will keep the kids entertained. We'll definitely be back!

It’s a perfect sanctuary…

It’s a perfect sanctuary…. We’ve stayed here several times now, just as a treat when we visit friends locally, and I’ve got to say “it’s magical”. We like the Black Barns, they have everything we need and are maintained to the highest standards. The beds are sooo comfortable(!) and the log burner adds that something extra special to those ‘good to be alive’ winter days. Being on a hill, the views are tremendous and the starry nighttime sky is uninterrupted by light pollution! The whole team are great there too, always so pleasant and enthusiastic. It’s just great and we highly recommend it. Our special place!

Wren's nest midwales

We stayed in Wren's nest 2 which is really comfortable having an en-suite bathroom and dressing room. The lodge was so warm which was just as well as we woke one morning to 3 or 4 inches of snow.
Staff are really friendly and have thought of everything in the lodge including treats for the dogs.

So much potential but for the price we wouldn't go back

Booked a long weekend trip away with my partner, teen daughter and our frenchie. Brilliant location and upon arrival we couldn't believe what a steal we'd had, it looked lovely but towards the end of our stay we very nearly went home early. The Safari Tent zip had been zip tied one side quite tight meaning that the fabric was a stretch to do up on the otherside, our dog had to have a harness and lead on 24/7 because he managed to escape through the gap at the bottom, because of this we spent as much time out in the city as we could. The no noise after 10pm isnt managed well at all, every night we had people partying until gone midnight. The wifi signal was non existent and same for the tv, i felt a few puzzles or boardgames would have been a lovely touch. The shower was freezing cold and awful water pressure, couldn't wash your hair, dosnt matter what time of day you tried it, the shower plug was really show at draining because its so filthy you end up with black bits of grime all over your feet. On checkout i thought id strip the beds to help out housekeeping as i do wheres we stay, only to find a huge wee patch on the mattress protector in the main bed, there is absolutely no way housekeeping didn't see this! The kitchen is full of everything you need although its a tiny freezer in an under the counter fridge with a freezer at the top (wish we knew this before we brought lots of frozen food) also the towels weren't replaced our whole stay. The grounds were very clean and tidy, the hottub checker is very discreet and polite, i loved the fact they have free dog agility course too, great fun! Overall very disappointed with the stay and wouldn't recommend or stay again ourselves unfortunately!

Exceptional campsite (Shrewsbury)

I stay regular in my transporter campervan with my daughter and my stay has always been good. Facilities are great and just enough to do without spending any money.
I have had to cancel a few times at late notice and they have always credited my account with no hassle whatsoever, amazing customer service!

Restaurant closes early

Love2stay is an amazing site and we have stayed here a number of times despite living close by. However, the reason for the 3 star review is down to the restaurant. We had friends also staying on site and could only get back to the site for 7 pm. I rang reception and asked opening times. I was told last order for food was 7.30 pm. We arrived at the restaurant at 7 pm placed an order for drinks. We were told last order was 7.20 pm. By now it was 7.15 pm. We got our order in by the skin of our teeth. We were then told on numerous occasions they were closing. We got talking to some other caravanners and it would have been nice to chat. Closing so early on a site is very surprising.
