Car and rental process was good. They do overcharge for insurance and toll pass. 18 eur/day for toll pass seems excessive

good car good price. was supposed to get refund for overfuel of ~30 euro but the guy did not want to refund. and it is not possible to fill the details from Israel in order for me to go directly to the car and take it

Our third time renting from Locauto, and as great as expected. Very helpful staff, good pricing on flexible vehicle choices. I even received a modest refund on a slightly earlier vehicle return. We will be back!

**Good rating, poor transparency: ended up paying more than double**

We rented a car from Locauto through Booking.com for 13 days. We cho
se them because of their high rating, not the price. There were cheaper options, and the amount we prepaid online was already on the high side.

At the airport desk we found out that insurance and an additional driver weren't included in what we had already paid. We ended up paying abou
t €800 more at the counter for the extra driver, full coverage insurance (which was unreasonably expensive), and returning the car with an empty tank.

We also tried to shorten the rental by two days and change the drop-off location, so we wouldn't have to drive into Milan, and to get a refund for th
ose two days. The staff at the desk were very kind, but they sent us to Booking because we had booked through them. We then followed up by email. The replies were quick, but they never addressed the refund.

We also weren't given any instructions on where to return the car in Milan, so we had to look for help online to find the drop-off point.

In the end we got the car we wanted, but at more than double the p
rice we had planned, and we felt there was a real lack of transparency. We won't book with Locauto again, and we won't recommend them to family or friends.

it was a good experience and not for the first time

We were charged an unjustifiable, ridiculous, criminal amount for tyre damage that we did not cause: (460 Euros in total).

The details of our particular case are similar to what others have experienced so will add those later for anyone who may be interested.

The REALLY interesting thing is why Locauto have a 'Excellent' Trustpilot rating whilst actually behaving in a way that is tantamount to criminal / fraudulent.

What I found is that they do not seem to invite Trustpilot reviews from people they know they surcharged / provided a poor service to. This is explicitly contra to Trustpilots terms and leads to an artificially inflated Trustpilot rating. The first example I analysed found that 95% of 5-star reviews were from 'Invited' customers but only 35% of 1-star and 2-star reviews.

[the way the system works is that the company provides Trustpilot with a list of customers to canvas reviews from - Trustpilot has no way of ensuring that the provided list is neutral and representative. It DOES however mandate that the list should be representative. To be SUPER CLEAR - It is NOT Trustpilots fault when companies cherry pick the customers they want reviews from.]

Oh yes, and we didn't get invited either

Clear evidence of deliberate curation in an effort to bias the Trustpilot results.

The other interesting thing is how brief the 5-star reviews tended to be (generic / little or no detail as to the customers specific context). Reviews such as these COULD easily be written by AI, but are so small its very difficult to determine whether AI produced them).

So dear potential Locauto customer - please tread VERY carefully with this company, and DONT BELIEVE Loautos Trustpilot rating - in this case, its not worth the paper its written on.
