Hidden import fees – dishonest and misleading
I ordered a pair of sneakers – the checkout process was easy, and they shipped the next day. So far, everything seemed great. I received a tracking number and everything was moving smoothly.
Then suddenly, I got a message from DHL saying I had to pay import taxes. If you're in the EU, that's 21% VAT on top of your order – which is a significant amount.
Nowhere during the checkout process was this clearly communicated. Only after receiving the DHL notification did I go back to the site and find a small note buried in one of the policy tabs, stating that they ship DDU (Delivery Duty Unpaid).
I consider this misleading. Customers should be clearly informed before placing an order that extra charges will apply – not after paying, when the shipping company delivers the bad news.
