I purchased a 10-year subscription for Lingvist’s Spanish course in January 2025 because I found their method of learning vocabulary in full sentences very effective.

For about a year, the system worked well and provided a steady stream of new words in context. However, after approximately 15 months, the platform stopped introducing new vocabulary entirely. From that point on, I was limited to reviewing previously learned words or creating my own content manually.

This is a significant change from the service I understood I was purchasing. A long-term subscription implies ongoing learning progression, which is no longer the case once the available content is exhausted.

I contacted support to request a proportional refund, but this was refused. The response relied solely on a 14-day refund policy and did not address the issue that the service no longer provides new learning content.

In my experience, Lingvist is a very good tool initially, but it does not currently support long-term learning as suggested by a multi-year subscription.

I would recommend being cautious about committing to long-term plans.

They are constantly sending me advertisements for their subscription through app notifications, even though I am actively subscribed and have explicitly turned off the setting to receive offers. I have reached out to the support multiple times, but they are either too incompetent to fix it, or are deliberately ignoring my request.

I made a one time payment to try the app out for a year and after six months they added me to a subscription I never authorized.

I'm on my way to a better understanding of English, and with Lingvist, I am enjoying the process much more. I like the app because it helps me stay active with my goal every day, and it offers many different ways to help me learn.

What I like most about Lingvist is the flashcard-style design. With so many helpful tools, seeing my progress toward my language learning goals is much easier.

The app has a very affordable subscription, and I definitely recommend trying it. Compared to other apps, this is a "solo" app designed for the user to learn as much as possible. Some might find it boring because there isn't much interaction with others, but if that doesn't bother you, this is a great app to refine your language skills.

There seems to be a company policy of attempting to take payment even after the subscription has been cancelled. Beware and do not subscribe in the first place!

The best language app so far. I made a visible progress in Estonian language after a few months of training every day for 15 minutes in Lingvist. Now learning German at the same time and it seems their algorithm really works. It gives you back the words you don't remember reliably until they stick to your brain. It's definitely worth the money, in language schools you would pay much more and this is comfortable, easy and efficient way to learn new languages.

I have bought a subscription, but it didn't work and nobody helped me work it out. I just lost money, time and nerves

I decided to give the free trial a try, unfortunately the only way to get a free trial is to sign up for a year.

I did not receive a free trial and they took the $80 dollars directly out of my account. I feel extremely sick over it and I am determined to let as many people know about it as I can. So don't sign up for the free trial unless you are a gambler.

I probably wouldn't feel quite so awful about it if Lingvist was a good product, but the more I am working with it, the worse I feel.

You can't make your own flashcards, and you don't learn phrases or "ideas". You learn word by word, not completely understanding that words do change in context.

This is a good product if you want to learn single words, but not if you want to learn phrases that sometimes may not translate to exactly what their database says. Also, if you want to include a phrase whose words are all in other lists, you cannot. For example, I want to enter the Spanish phrase 'me da cosa' ('it gives me the creeps') into a custom deck, but it won't allow it unless I include the literal translation of 'cosa' somehow, which is 'thing'. It's very frustrating, and takes forever with stupid workarounds. The automatic populate is good as is the spaced repetition, but it could be so much better. They should also consider hiring linguists who understand that not all translations are literal, and that you have to learn chunks/phrases, not just single words.

They are thieves. Even after cancelling the subscription to their so-called course, they continue to withdraw the amount from your bank account. In addition, they do not bother to respond to the email you sent them.

I have been using this application for almost a year. It is a very helpful tool for increasing your vocabulary, memorizing words and phrases, creating your own word decks and reviewing the words, which are about to submerge in a deep sleep somewhere in a black hole of your memory. I enjoy using it daily.

It is very useful when used every day, you learn the words quickly. There are mistakes in some translations (turkish). This makes learning the word difficult. It would be great if we could write the correct translation ourselves.

This app is a daily activity for me. It doesn't try to do too much and what it does do, it does well.

I took advantage of a 10 year subscription at a heavy discount and I've still got about 8 years to run on that. By that time I might have picked up all the Italian words they offer!

Very limited functionality, no ability to create your own cards with words. The grammar exercises that are there can be completed in 3 hours and they have almost no educational purpose.
Overall, the app is suitable for levels A2/A1, but if you have at least B1, this is not the best option.

This is great app, but not an all around solution. if used in conjunction with other materials, like grammar, speaking and reading, this i can be one of the best tool or way to reinforce your vocab. Its definitely effective. I hope they integrate grammar concepts, exercises.

They should also educate new learners, how to effectively use this.

Worth the investment.

Best vocab app out there by a long shot. I've used this for a year. Much faster than duolingo, memrise, babbel, etc.

Generally THE most scientific language learning platform with NO annoying BS, only the most efficient features. Supports both written and spoken interaction. Real life situations/vocabulary. Lots of languages, and more to come.

A useful app, does exactly what you need - delivers on its features. Simplistic, no issues

Really like this app and have found it to improve my French significantly. Easy to use and thoughtfully done.

However one star because they haven't put the 10 year subscription i paid for on to my account. They said it would take 2 working days, but now have stopped responding to my emails.
