Shady tactics
Shady tactics. Got what seemed like a great deal, 40 hours worth of lessons. Only to realize after paying that they work on a subscription model, meaning that in order to use those hours, I would have to keep paying every month.
Also did not enjoy the lessons much. While the material itself isn't bad, teachers just scroll through the slides.

All our plans are based on a month-to-month subscription, which renews every 28 days. Each renewal provides you with the corresponding amount of classes and activates your account for the following 28 days.
The recurring nature of our subscription is presented on multiple occasions: on our website, at check-out, within our Terms and Conditions (which must be accepted before any purchase is processed), and within the student account itself. However, we are sorry if this remained unclear.
Please note that purchasing classes once and using them over an extended period without an active subscription is unfortunately not available.
Additionally, at Lingoda you have the right to withdraw from your purchase within our 14-day withdrawal policy, which applies from the moment of first registration. This refund covers all unused class credits, allowing students who are not satisfied with the classes or were unaware of the subscription details prior to purchasing to opt out.
Students always have the option to change, cancel, or pause their subscription at any time through their account, allowing them to adjust the subscription to best suit their learning needs or availability.
Class credits have a validity of one year from the moment they are purchased, independently of the subscription status, but require an active and paid subscription to be used to attend classes.
We’re also sorry to hear that you did not enjoy the lessons. Our teachers follow structured lesson plans to ensure that all key material is covered efficiently, however, we apologise if the lessons felt overly reliant on the slides.
We continually work with our teaching team to balance structured learning with interactive and engaging methods, and your feedback plays an important role in helping us achieve this.

A well-structured and supportive learning experience
What made my experience great is the clear structure of the lessons, the reliability of the platform, and the consistently supportive learning atmosphere. The teachers create a safe and encouraging space to speak, which makes it easy to participate actively and build confidence over time.
While the lessons are well-structured and engaging, I sometimes feel that the C1/C2 levels could go deeper in terms of nuance, advanced idiomatic usage, and stylistic precision. At higher levels, learners often benefit from more focused work on subtle distinctions, register awareness, and natural-sounding expression, rather than relying mainly on general discussion.
Overall, Lingoda works particularly well for learners who value regular speaking practice, structure, and continuity.

Please be very very very cautious
If I could give 0 stars I would. I am STILL stuck in the lingoda hell of scam subscriptions. To not let credits roll on past a subscription termination is absolutely insane and I truly truly wish I had never joined. I have wasted so much money on the sunk cost fallacy with Lingoda. This system has completely scammed and trapped me paying extortionate fees for no reason, I wanted to quit my membership months and months ago but then I lost all the classes I've paid for? It's insane, and it's a total trap. It has brought me nothing but sadness and confusion as to why this platform is designed to scam the maximum money out of people for minimum lessons?

Definitely worth the money
The instructors are very good, and give lots of helpful feedback. I love the chance to have my grammar corrected, because most native speakers are too polite to do this. Also, the chance to speak and write in German and be corrected in real time, with explanations, is worth all the cost!

Compact, conversational language learning
I really enjoy the bite sized, hour long lessons. They're easy to fit into my work day and provide a great opportunity to practice speaking my target language. There's a great variety available each day and I'm able to find lessons any time each day which fit into my course.
I think that an option for a grammar crash course by a consistant teacher would be a great addition to lingodas offerings.

I’m really enjoying learning with Lingoda. The teachers are friendly, patient, and very encouraging, which makes the lessons relaxed and enjoyable. They explain things clearly and are always happy to repeat or rephrase if needed, which really helps build confidence.
The lessons are well structured, interactive, and practical, so I feel like I’m actually learning how to use the language rather than just memorising rules. I like the fact that I have to speak in German during the lesson and that the class sizes are small. I also like the variety of teachers, as it helps with listening and pronunciation.

I have taken more than 100 classes and I think...
I have taken more than 100 Lingoda German classes, and I have been enjoying it so far. I would give 4.5 stars, but unfortunately there is no option to do so.
The plus: The learning materials are high quality and comprehensive. Most of the teachers are also competent. The teaching format, which gives everyone the chance to speak, really encourages me to talk more and not be afraid of making mistakes. The biggest advantage is the flexibility the platform offers.
The minus: The classes are only one hour long, and with the amount of material, I sometimes get the impression that some lessons are rushed. I would recommend studying on your own to review the rest. Also, the class cancellation policy only allows you to get credits back if you cancel two or three days in advance, which I think is a bit too restrictive. If you want to book a class at short notice to avoid having to cancel, there are often very few options available at suitable times.
Overall, it is a great platform!

Thank you as well for your thoughtful suggestions. Regarding cancellations, classes need to be cancelled at least 72 hours in advance in order for the credit to be refunded. We understand that this can sometimes feel restrictive, especially when plans change and that booking at short notice can sometimes limit your options. It's because most classes will get fully booked, which is why we usually recommend booking at least 7 days in advance to enjoy a wider variety of lessons and time slots.
We’re also sorry if some lessons have felt a bit rushed. With a 60-minute format and rich content, the pace can occasionally feel quick. We encourage reviewing the lesson beforehand and completing the exercises 2–3 days after the class to get the most out of each session.

I really don’t like Lingoda
I really don’t like Lingoda, like other comments here the main problem is that you lose all credits if you cancel the subscription. If something comes up and you end up accumulating credits you either need to quickly catch up or you’ll lose the credits. It’s very shady that you cannot access materials or book classes if you cancel your subscription unless you pay 20 euros per month to keep your credis. I finally managed to finish all my credits and cancel it, it feels like they only do it for the money and I always recommend people not to use it!
They also charged me the 20 euros when I had 0 credits left. I had one class left booked for that day and then I wanted to cancel the subscription, but they charged me 1h before the last class and customer support said there’s nothing they can do about it (lol). I genuinely dislike this company and feel like it cost me much more than I would’ve otherwise ended up paying for classes in person.

We want to clarify a few points regarding subscriptions and credits. Class credits are not lost when a subscription is cancelled; they remain valid for one year from the date of purchase. However, as outlined in our Terms and Conditions, booking classes, attending lessons, and accessing materials and exercises are part of our paid services. Students can always reactivate their plan to regain access to their progress and remaining valid credits.
It’s also important to note that students are responsible for cancelling their plan. Subscriptions don’t automatically stop once credits reach zero. Lingoda Lite fees allow continued access to other paid services, such as exercises and learning materials. The only way to prevent a renewal payment is to cancel before the renewal date, which usually occurs around the same time your plan originally started (by the hour).
We understand that the timing of payments might have been unfair. Our team is always happy to help if contacted before a payment is processed to find suitable solutions. Once a renewal has gone through, refunds are generally not possible, as the 14-day withdrawal policy applies only to the start of a new contract and not to renewals.
That said, our support team were able to make an exception and refund your last fees.
We’re sorry that this situation left you feeling disappointed, and we really appreciate you taking the time to share your experience.

Complete but not enough to advance in your language learning
The syllabus is quite complete, including a lot of grammar focused lessons together with reading, conversational phrases and speaking activities. The quality of the professors is very heterogeneous though and while the class groups are usually small, it often happens that the level of the students is also very heterogeneous too. This makes some classes terribly boring when the rhythm gets slowed down because somebody jumped into a level higher than he should, or the opposite… where other students seem to speak perfect German and one finds it hard to follow up. Maybe some kind of evaluation or exams would help with this and also force some activity outside the lessons. This is extremely important, as there are few opportunities to write, and I wouldn’t pay for a teacher to be waiting for me to write something… At the end, whoever wants to take an official exam will need to write at some point, and writing is an important way to fix some complicated grammatical mistakes. There is a kind of supporting website with exercises and vocabulary training, but it’s quite outdated when compared to other websites and apps out there.

Fabulous platform
Fabulous platform! I have throughly enjoyed my experience, and would highly recommend Lingoda to anyone who is interested in language learning. 95% of the teachers are excellent and go far above and beyond the material to make the lessons interesting and engaging. The entire platform is set up so that you engage in the target language from day 1 and you are actively speaking from day 1. I refreshed my German in B2 for about 4 months last year, and now am taking French at A1.
