Working very well

I use LibreOffice from many years and I think it just works very well.
Sometimes there is some bug on new release and for this reason I suggest to use only stable release version of the software.
I wish a free version of LibreOffice will be soon available on Microsoft Store without having to pay for it since it sounds really strange that a free open source software ask for a payment just to be installed from Microsoft Store.

Awful

Awful!
Lost important Documents as settings are reset on upgrade. I thought about buying from the Apple Store and it's £8.99 with a 3.1-star review.

I understand the version I am using is free, but it's so hit-and-miss whether it works and whether you lose Documents. I won't be recommending its use any more to customers in my IT Store. I am now back to using corporate software as I cannot afford to spend hours re-writing important documents. Disappointed in not the word.

Impossible to rename files

I was super excited at first. Free document and spreadsheet software, compatible across platforms?! Awesome! And then after working with it for a few weeks I needed to rename a file. Simple, right?! I found several different descriptions online, but none of them actually worked. Such a basic thing to need to do, and evidently completely impossible.

Not a really good application due to…

Not a good application due to this NAGGING inconvenience (if it is fixed then it would then be a really good application) :
In typing a text of about 20 pages, it is stopped sporadically by the forward move of a GREEN line appearing suddenly at the bottom of the page EVERY 5 minutes, sometimes even LESS (other applications don’t have this nagging thing).
It might be due to either programming weakness. Or it could be due to some nonsensically fanciful way of programming design, willing to sporadically relax the processing of the working load being handled - which is plain redundant as computers now are not the ones of the 90's !
Besides, letters are not nicely set together : particularly the "s" and the "t"; these 2 letters are tightly close to other ones in any word one types, so that one has to use "character spacing" in the item "Format" to fix this defect. But even this tool is not well programmed at all as it affects all other letters in the word in question, at the same time, sometimes even all the letters in those words that are near that word. One only succeeds to fix that defect after many tests to get those 2 letters not "glued" to others. So, they provide a tool to fix it, but it's not a smooth tool at all. The point here is that why most of other letters are set with proper space between them, with a particular exception of those 2, in any word? A defect in the programming itself or it's just a heavy lack of graphic sense of lettering that is the cause?
... And a new version does not always mean a better version; without mentioning that it can cause the formatting in all documents done with the previous one to get askew as to space between paragraphs.
The above problems, if and only if fixed well enough, would then make this application deserve 5 stars as it can be used to design book covers, through the various tools available, by first inserting photos (JPG file format, say transferring from cell phone) in its page document.

It's free and good…

Five stars because it is free and almost as good as MS Office. I like being back in the old office ui, I never really liked the MS ribbon. Libreoffice does do it's own version of the ribbon. I've never tried it.
I cancelled my Microsoft Office subscription as I have retired and no longer need or want to pay for it. Libreoffice isn't far behind. One complaint I have seen is the open document formula is not recognised across all office software, It's easy enough to save the documents as Microsoft Office files, which is what I do with any documents I wish to share.

How many stars is it worth?

How many stars is it worth?

Performance and ease of setting up in Windows 7 ultimate – 10 pro – 11 pro) it is 5 ***** star as it is superior to Microsoft Word in all the paid versions. Libre Office Writer handle 5 languages no sweat with perfect spelling control, where Microsoft Word cannot find out which language you are using and spell check is impossible if you write in more than one language.

In Linux even latest 7.6.5 version is clumsy. Not that it is not easy to get going, as it is installed with the OS, but changing languages is certainly something that take time. So it is as good as Microsoft Word is in Windows as it handle one language out of the box, while more languages are possible but much work to get going.

So back to the question: I give it 4½ stars as 4 for Linux version and 5 for Windows version.

Trustpilot does not have half stars?

Libre office is having issues for awhile

Libre office is having issues, constant overriding settings and refusing to print duplex pages on printers that can print double sided is more than annoying, it is worth uninstalling garbage that doesn't work. Worked in 21.1 mint 21.2 stopped printing double sided and in 21.3 it still refuses to print duplex pages. all settings were set and worked then it updated and started printing only single sided pages.
congrats grade "F".

Semi-reasonable, getting worse however.

As it is free it is reasonable. However recently it has taken to overwriting user defined aspects.
The reason they are user defined is that the user wants them. So some idiot deciding to ignore the user settings and change them is more then annoying. It shouldn't happen.
My version appears to have decided to update itself twice. It is not set for auto-update, and until this occurred things were about right. Now they are not.

Works great on Linux

Update:
After migrating to Linux (CachyOS) about half a year ago I've been using LibreOffice without a singe crash. So, my former experience with this software seems to be related to Windows.

Original review:
After using Microsoft Word for years with my 365 Office subscription I canceled it for different reasons and shifted to use LibreOffice instead. Apparently that was a bad idea.

I’m retired now and are no longer required to use MS Office as part of my work and LibreOffice covers my need for this type of programs just fine but … LibreOffice Writer crashes constantly! Even if I just have a document open doing other thing around the house, it crashes regularly.

Maybe it works better under Linux, I don’t know, but as a Windows 10 application it cannot be trusted.

Another thing I have noticed is that my Nextcloud app has a problem synchronizing my document with my server after I've saved the document using CTRL-S? That did not happen when I was using MS Word. It result in a series of sync error messages, usually 3-5 at a time.

It’s really sad, because in almost every other aspects of the program it’s a great alternative to Big Bad Bill’s proprietary Office Pack.

Nice office suite

Nice office suite. However, I copy the text before saving, and save every minute or two in case of a semi-rare random crash. I wish those crashes could be fixed, but it's not like other programs don't crash occasionally.

DON'T TRUST IT

DON'T TRUST IT. IT CRASHES, and I have LOST MY WORK 3 times now. It says it recovers, but it does not. Only brings back what's saved. Unless you can definitely remember to keep saving every 5 minutes when you get over one page of writing, you run the risk of it freezing and closing on you. I have just turned to google docs; nothing beats it. Don't waste your time and lose essays or projects honestly I'm gutted so so so so angry. Just stopped and closes. Just don't bother

Incredibly good software that I use almost every day.

I've been using LibreOffice since it started. I use the Writer and Calc mostly, including some semi-complex formula filled spreadsheets.
I can open and use 95% of Word and Excel documents. Or 100% of the standard simple ones.
I use it so much that Word and Excel are foreign to me and I feel much happier using LibreOffice.
ADVICE - Don't use the absolute latest released version, hold back a bit and you will have a very stable experience.
Lastly, don't forget to donate at libreoffice.org to help further development.

Very Unstable Software

Been using this for a few months, and sadly have to leave this review.
It crashes often, with NO WAY to get my documents back.

I have lost vital work that i spent hours on.
it might be free, but its very unstable.

ive gone back to google documents , at leats google docs save the actual document incase of a problem.

i realise google docs is too unstable, at times, but it saves the document.

libre office is free, and in my opinion there is a reason its free..!

Very poor

Downloaded, which took ages. Lots of problems with compatibility during setup and then the first time I tried to open a database it wouldn't do it.

And the website is very clear that they have no interest in helping with technical problems.

So deleted within 5 minutes of downloading.
