Concerns Around Cleanliness

We booked a cottage in the Lakes with Lakes Cottage Holidays in July this year. We had been twice before to the same cottage. The cottage has an excellent situation leading down to Lake Windermere and wonderful views of the Lake which is why we returned. In 2021 we felt the level of cleanliness let it down and we read reviews stating this. In particular in 2021 we noted a lamp shade heavy with dust and mould on the curtains. This was exactly the same this year. Lakes Cottage Holidays invited me to comment which I did, explaining the concern around cleanliness. I said I didn't want to make my review public but wanted to feedback my concerns to them. My feedback was completely ignored which is why I'm posting it now. I felt they just didn't care so why ask me for feedback. I don't think they can be liaising with cottage owners or inspecting the cottage for cleanliness themselves.

Upsold an extremely poor product

I booked a holiday with this company, and everything seemed good until we unfortunately had to cancel the holiday due to coronavirus. We had purchased the insurance recommended during the checkout process (Ergo Travel Insurance) and it turns out that this is just an awful company that provides non-existent customer support. The fact that they could even consider selling this to their customers is concerning.

I have called Lakes Cottage Holiday who advised us that it was nothing to do with them and it's all out of their hands.

They were polite enough, but the fact that they continue to partner with a provider that quite clearly is not able to support what they are selling reflects poorly on them.

I hope they reconsider what services they decide to sell to customers in the future.

There are better companies out there to book with!

I booked a beautiful cottage for our 25th wedding anniversary as a second honeymoon. I called one of the offices with a couple of queries and didn’t find the lady I spoke to particularly friendly. However, we set our heart in going to the Lakes and this accommodation ticked the boxes.

I booked and paid the deposit and nearer to the time to pay the balance I emailed them with a query regarding the payment date. I received an email back with a payment date two weeks later than we were originally told but £20 more expensive. I emailed them back to query the details I had received and was told that the amount in the original invoice was actually correct. Not knowing whether the original payment date or the subsequent payment date I had been informed of was correct I again emailed to clarify and never received a reply. This happened on another couple of occasions when I emailed regarding other matters. When I received another email with a link to VIP discounts the link didn’t work so I contacted them again, first time received no reply, second time being told there would be a folder at the house with details in and a key fob. At the cottage there was a folder but no key fob so wouldn’t have been able to make use of any discounts even if we had wanted.

Communication very poor. It feels like a very ‘hands-off’ management company. Had I known they were part of Sykes Holidays I would never had chosen to book with them as I had a previous bad experience with them cancelling my holiday cottage two days before my holiday and then not being interested in offering an alternative leaving a very unhappy family!

Let me book a property that was not available!

Booked an apartment in the Lake District with these people for 2 weeks due to go in August/September 2013. Booking went through ok.

Next day had a phone call from somebody at the place saying that the property was not available and that the owner had let it to one of his friends for the 2 weeks that I wanted. He then stated that he could find me somewhere else but I'd have to pay the difference otherwise "he would loose out". I'm sure he would but it was his fault!

What made things worse that they took the deposit knowing that a place was not available.

If I were you I'd avoid at all costs as clearly the place is not run by professionals....
