Broken Systems - Impossible to Work With - Go Elsewhere

Insurance was fine until they terminated coverage early and made it impossible to fix. That's when I learned the truth about how impossible it is to work with L.A. Care.

----------------------------
Reason was non-payment. The problem is that payment was made...

First auto-pay in 2026 succeeded.

Second auto-pay went through according to my bank (screenshot attached), but for some reason, according to L.A. Care, it failed.

I logged in and paid 3 months manually. My bank confirmed again (screenshot attached). L.A. Care apparently said it failed even though their portal confirmed it.

I logged in and paid 2 months manually. My bank confirmed again (screenshot attached). L.A. Care mailed me a letter saying "Authorization Revoked by Customer." Makes no sense since I paid manually on their website. Not even sure how one would "revoke authorization."

My bank confirmed that they denied no charges from L.A. Care and said the bank would have to legally show me if they did.
----------------------------
L.A. Care said my grace period was March 1-31 (letter attached)

However, it also wasn't true. On March 13, they terminated coverage early (letter attached).

The phone rep noted how strange it was to see a mid-month and early termination.

Made no sense.
----------------------------
I called to pay on the phone. They said I had to appeal the termination through Covered California.

Did that, and waited 7-14 days for response, as I was told.

In early April I was told that the reinstatement was denied

Friday 4/17 - Spoke with LA Care. They said that we're now outside of the 30 day reinstatement window (since I had to wait for their appeal process to finish) and I could no longer appeal.

They also said that they always reinstate within 30 days. Except that they didn't...

Another false statement.
----------------------------
On that call I requested a supervisor. They promised me one would call back.

I watched the phone for a week.

No call back.
----------------------------
I called again and requested a supervisor. Same answer, and again no call back.

More false statements.
----------------------------
Now I will be liable for paying California's non-coverage penalties, despite my extraordinary efforts, and three payments, to be covered.
----------------------------
IN CONCLUSION:

L.A. Care's systems are BROKEN. Very, very broken.

Broken to the point that the service edges on fraudulent...

You are safer taking your business elsewhere.

Frustrated beyond words with LA Care…

Frustrated beyond words with LA Care services and customer service. Customer service told me when I enrolled that UCLA Medical Group was available under LA Care. But once I enrolled they said "the panel is closed" and has been for two years. UCLA providers say they are happy to accept new patients under LA Care yet LA Care refuses to assign members to UCLA. When i call member services they say they don't know why this is the case or when the UCLA panel will open up. They send me to the Enrollment department to find out and Enrollment says they don't know, and why not ask Member Services. And customer service of the Enrollment department is disrespectful and paternalistic.

Only LA County but Great Rates & Service

I've had LA Care for about 5 years now and have found them to be a great health insurance provider. Rates are really good and have had great customer service so far.

Full disclosure, I'm really only doctor visit once per year, so low use but still happy

AS A L.A. CARE CUSTOMER, ALL MY REQUESTS HAVE APPARENTLY BEEN IGNORED.

AS A L.A. CARE CUSTOMER, I HAVE ASKED L.A. CARE OVER AND OVER AGAIN: DO NOT HAVE MEDICAL PEOPLE CALL ME TO HAVE A CHECK-UP OR ASK WHAT MEDICATIONS I'M TAKING. SADLY, ALL MY REQUESTS TO L.A. CARE HAVE APPARENTLY BEEN IGNORED. FOR THE RECORD, I ONLY WILL GET A MEDICAL CHECK-UP IN AN EMERGENCY, AND I DO NOT TAKE ANY MEDICATIONS.

TODAY, SEPTEMBER 2, 2025, A WOMAN FROM A MEDICAL COMPANY LEFT ME A PHONE MESSAGE TO SCHEDULE A MEDICAL EXAM... THIS DESPITE MY REPEATED REQUESTS TO L.A. CARE NOT TO GIVE OUT MY NAME AND PHONE NUMBER TO ANY MEDICAL COMPANIES SO THEY CAN CALL ME. DO NOT!

ABOUT 7 TO 10 DAYS AGO, I RECEIVED PHONE MESSAGES FROM TWO SEPARATE WOMEN WITH FOREIGN ACCENTS TO SCHEDULE MEDICAL CHECK-UPS! DESPITE MY REPEATED REQUESTS TO L.A. CARE NOT GIVE OUT MY NAME AND PHONE NUMBERS TO MEDICAL COMPANIES, I AM STILL BEING CONTACTED.

SUNDAY, AUGUST 17, 2025, L.A. CARE HAD NURSE PRACTITONER JENNIFER FERNANDO CALL ME.
SHE LEFT ME A MESSAGE TO UPDATE MY MEDICATIONS ON THE L.A. CARE PORTAL. WHAT? I DO NOT TAKE ANY MEDICATIONS! AND WHY WOULD NURSE PRACTITIONER JENNIFER FERNANDO CALL ME ON A SUNDAY?! I DEMAND YET AGAIN THAT L.A. CARE STOP HAVING MEDICAL PEOPLE CALL ME! STOP! I HAVE ASKED L.A. CARE SO MANY TIMES TO STOP!!! THE IRONY IS THAT WHEN AND IF I DO NEED MEDICAL CARE, I WILL PROBABLY BE DENIED.

PREVIOUSLY...

L.A. Care assigned Dr. Martin Hauptschein to my account for a medical check-up without notifying me. First, Dr. Hauptschein's female assistant called me, and I told her I am not interested. I blocked Dr. Hauptschein's office phone number on my cell phone, but then DR. HAUPTSCHEIN HIMSELF CALLED ME DESPITE ME BLOCKING HIS NUMBER! I ASKED MY CELL PHONE CARRIER HOW THE DOCTOR COULD STILL CALL ME AFTER I BLOCKED HIS PHONE NUMBER, AND IT'S STILL A MYSTERY. L.A. CARE SHOULD NOT GIVE OUT MEMBER PHONE NUMBERS WITHOUT THE MEMBERS' PERMISSION! HELLO?!

Then I got a text message from L.A. Care, telling me to get a medical exam, a vaccine, and to call a certain phone number. I looked up the phone number online, and it's the office of Dr. Hauptschein who called me about a month ago and I blocked his phone number! THE L.A. CARE TEXT MESSAGE I RECEIVED DOES NOT EVEN MENTION THE DOCTOR'S NAME, ONLY HIS PHONE NUMBER!

I HAVE REPEATEDLY ASKED L A. CARE NOT TO GIVE OUT MY NAME AND PHONE NUMBER TO DOCTORS AND OTHER MEDICAL PEOPLE. L A. CARE IGNORES MY REQUESTS! TERRIBLE!
