I self-published on KDP back in 2012. I published 7 books, 4 were humor focused poems and comics. Around 2018ish I gave up on writing for awhile and kind of forgot about the site. Then at 1 AM C... See more

They don't even deserve 1 star
They don't even deserve 1 star. Abysmal service. Uploaded my ebook, realised it had typos in it. They wouldn't let me edit until it was live. Edited the manuscript and after it went live I went to upload the edited version .
10 days later and around 15 agents, they have no idea why it will not allow me to upload the new version. No coherent explanation. I've been contacting everyday and not one person knows why. I've been given that many silly generic suggestions of what to try and have been doing these non stop for 10 days.
They said there's nobody to speak to and I just have to wait for another generic email. Another one of a consistently useless string that I've received already.
It's that bad I'm genuinely wondering if there's a fake amazon website that's been set up with fake agents.
I cannot believe amazon could do this to their customers and would pay such unhelpful staff.
The odds of my book out of 100s of 1000s being the first with this issue is 1 million to 1 so no idea how not even one agent knows what they're doing in regards to it.
Gross waste of time.
Even the simplest things are made difficult
I was for a while a member of KDP. Its a great idea, unfortunately Amazon have managed to make it overly complex. For example today I had to add my bank details (They don't do PayPal) which doesn't seem a big deal until you try to input something as simple as an IBAN. Not in the correct format is says, even though I just input direct from my bank account.
Next thing, do you want to contact KDP, good luck with that its a faceless organization, no email address. You do get reams and reams of self help pages. I do hate DIY support because the company is to cheap to do things properly.
Result close the account, because I seriously don't need this crap.
Bye bye Amazon kindle, all you managed to do for me was frustrate the shxt out of me.

My account was wrongfully terminated…
My account was wrongfully terminated and they simply refused to reinstate it knowing fully well they wrongfully terminated my account but cos I have about $3,000 pending royalty in the account, they refused to reinstate the account. Shows they are nothing but fraud
I wanted to publish a book with this…
I wanted to publish a book with this company (KDP Amazon and/or Professional Writers Help, they leave it unclear). Another consultant I had hired finished everything except the type size. I let him go and asked KDP/PWH to correct the type size. They insisted that I start over again with them. I should have canceled the project then, but I foolishly said OK. Weeks and over $2,000 in fees later I have received no manuscript; I agreed to pursue a copyright and, within seconds, they charged me $1,677 for copyright services; I had thought we'd wait on that until we had a finished manuscript (and as of today I don't even have a preliminary manuscript yet). They could not perform simple computer tasks; they did not tell me why they couldn't use the cover my first consultant developed; they talked endlessly of needing more time with various "teams" but have produced nothing except a bad cover of their design; they promised to refund my $1,677 but I still don't have it. Either I had ridiculously high expectations or they are incompetent or worse. I am amazed that Amazon, the best store in the world, is associated with these people.
Impossible to contact
Impossible to contact. Shut down my account without giving a reason. Only told that apparently I had breached one of their policies. I had not knowingly breached any of their T&Cs and since I was not told what I had done I was left in the dark. Over time (about 4 years) I had spent much time publishing through them, all to become a waste of my time. Would not recommend them as a publisher with such terrible customer service and impossible to communicate with.
Account termination due to unpublished book
I had over 6 years on Amazon KDP and it showed no mercy towards my income. I always uploaded books that complied with Amazon's rules, never bought reviews, my books were my own property, generating $3000 to $5000 per month, and it wasn't enough for Amazon to reopen my account. Amazon terminated my account over an unpublished book that generated no revenue; that book had been inactive for years, and Amazon used it as an excuse to shut down my business.
I believe that each account should have a traffic light and an indicator to know the health of the accounts, this to not harm the authors. Amazon takes money from the authors and damages hundreds of families worldwide. We dedicate hours, money, and time to create books for their platform and from one day to the next they close the account and keep the money.
Poor choice for self publishing a graphic novel
Had to go through 'review ' process that minimally improved the quality. Quite amateurish in handling art files. Got worse instead of better. No person to person involvement or way of contacting anyone. Barnes and Noble is also detached but the quality was better in handling art files. The cover was relatively the same quality but we struggled with the spine lettering dimensions on the Amazon. I wholeheartedly do not recommend Amazon KDP for graphic novel.
Fake Publishing Companies-Fraud Alert
I was told me that in order to publish my book I needed to provide my Amazon password. This is when I realized I was dealing with scammers or a shady company and not Amazon. So I refused to give them my password and after researching the website I realized the following: They have in tiny letters that they are using logos on their website but that they do not have any affiliation to any of those. They have pictures on their website that give the impression of having great ratings, of being recommended by Forbes, business insider and such and are all fake. Then I saw many other similar websites that clearly belong to the same criminals to get people no matter what google search they do, such as: Amazonselfpublishinghouse.com, KDPdirectPublishers.com , RooseveltPublishers.com , Amazonpublishingdirect.com to name a few. If you look at the “About” you will read the same verbiage. And their address is a mailing place.
KDP a waist of Time.
I have been with KDP for 6 months and have not received one dime for any of my journals, books or, calendars. I have created 138 pieces of work and just received an email that my titles were not approved for the site and that they were closes my account down. I believe whomever is going over the work is stealing the work from the customers. I have waited for compensation for six months and nothing! This was a scam to the highest level. Either the people who work for the company are stealing the content or the process was fraudulent.
I possible to contact them
You cant even close down their account. Ive published my book on other platform, but I was denied by Amazon even from that platform, probably because I am from Israel. But hey I cant use PayPal there, and they dont work with Israeli banks. Kdp does not give you answers or any other way to contact them.
HAVE A BOOK TO PUBLISH?
HAVE A BOOK TO PUBLISH?? GO ANY WHERE BUT KDP!!! USELESS SCAMMERS!! Horrible people!! Can you tell I’m ticked?? That’s putting it mildly
Fool That I AM
I wrote a non-fiction book titled "Fool That I Am" by Tomas Walsh about my very real experience being defrauded of $300K. It contains actual dates and names of the bad guys as well as those in the FBI, Secret Service, banks, etc, who were involved in the fruitless efforts to recover the funds. I submitted this book to KDP in early December of 2023 and it languished in review until early March of 2024. I made numerous calls to KDP during that time and was never given a reason for the lengthy delay. Finally, in early March, it showed as "draft" and I re-uploaded files as requested. It is now back in review several weeks later and I'm told it's a world-wide, KDP issue they're facing. I have received 10 or 15 emails from various KDP personnel telling me they're working on the issue of my particular book but offer no explanation. Oh...I also submitted the exact same files to Barnes and Noble and I have had the printed copies in hand since mid-December. They look great!
It's the worst publishing company on the market
Their review system doesn't work, and customer service representatives act as messengers. Books are rejected randomly without explanation or substantiation for rejection, and nobody knows anything. They are totally incapable of handling a case or finding a solution. Now, they are also into judging the design and using it as a lame excuse to reject books that otherwise meet all technical requirements. Complaining doesn't help, even when official complaints are sent to HQ. If possible, stay away from them, as dealing with them will bring you into a perpetual cycle of stress with no issues being resolved. They only care about customers that buy and get them money. Those who sell are treated poorly simply because Amazon holds the power and doesn't care.
When my books was not making sells my…
When my books was not making sells my account was not terminated, I can called them scammers because they change their terms & condition every now and then to suit their scamming vision, My experience with amazon kdp was bad after i thought that I have found a side hustle, I invested so much on manuscripts and book covers and to my greatest surprise about a book that I summited for almost a year only for kdp team to send me a mail that my topic is misleading and instead for them to delist the said book they just terminate my account, it was so painful that before my eyes all my little investment was flush out by heartless kdp team. And I ask them who the book i summited long ago was it not kdp member that review the entire book and accept it? Especially one hardhearted called Arturo
The ABSOLUTE WORST CUSTOMER EXPERICE I HAVE HAD. THIS IS A
If I could give negative stars I would give -1000000000
I would like to speak with a manager in the department. Here is why.
I received several of my journals, "Give Us 21!" Manifestation Journal Rising Stars - Middle School Edition, however they were flawed. I uploaded the journal with the cover, it passed the preview and was approved by KDP. The journal was uploaded and was on Amazon Live, however the product was defective. Apparently the printing system that KDP uses did not recognize the letter "R", even though when I reviewed it on KDP launch preview, it appeared to be accurate as it did not show the product as flawed. It was not until I received the journals in the mail did I see it.
Once I received the product and saw the error I immediately contacted KDP. Unfortunately I connected with a supervisor who showed zero empanyth and took no accountability on behalf of Amazon and KDP. I did receive an email stating I would get a refund in the amount of $13.76 for the 2 books that were defective.
Here is my issue...
While I do understand and leave room for human as well as mechanical error, I do not think it is a good practice to not empathize and properly compensate a customer when the company produced a defective product.
That error was not in my control. I had a scheduled event to present my journals at a local bookstore that was highlighting new authors during March for Women's History month where there was emphasis placed on products for women and children. I was not able to present that particular journal for reasons that were out of my personal control.
I originally spoke with the supervisor Erick O (he refused to provide his last name, an employee number or any way for me to further identify him, however, I do believe you will see an email from him on this thread. He showed absolutely no remorse nor empathy for the mishap. When I spoke with him he advised Amazon would get back to me within 2 business days which should have been Monday, March 4 or Tuesday March 5.
Although I was told I would hear back within 2 business days, I did not. It was not until I reached back out again on March 7 that I received an email I would be reimbursed $13.76.
This morning, Saturday, March 9, I called again about yet another issue with one of my other journals. After I completed that inquiry, I mentioned the defective journals and asked the supervisor Anthony what KDP/Amazon would be willing to do to make up for the opportunity I missed at the bookstore due to the error, not to mention Amazon placing the defective journal on their site. He said Amazon would do nothing except refund me the $13.76.
When I explained how I lost more than $13.76 by missing an opportunity at the bookstore, he reinforced, Amazon would do nothing to further compensate. When I asked to speak to his manager, his response was, his manager does not take calls. I then asked what was the escalation process. His response, keep going back through the process of requesting a callback and keep requesting to talk to different managers. Although I have a very hard time believing one of the world's largest companies does not have a proper escalation process, I would do that. I have since gone back through your system requesting calls (as advised by the supervisor Anthony) only to find out I have been blocked from requesting and receiving a call back.
I will be putting this review on Amazon, google reviews and any other online review sites I can find. It is my observation, the customer experience with Amazon/KDP is of no importance at all. It appears your only goal is to push people through your system and out of the way.
Additional conversations was with Amin, who also stated he was a manger. Once I explained the situation to him, he too said there is nothing he can do. I then spoke with yet another manger, Zulpha who stated he was from the escalations department, and he too stated he do nothing expect escalate again. This is a habitual issue with the KDP customer service department as I have had several issues, over and over and over with different products that I have uploaded since January of 2024. This issue was an error on Amazon/KDP behalf which they did admit it was their error, however were unwilling to do anything to rectify the situation. I have lost a full week of scheduled promotion events and Amazon/KDP was not willing to do the least they could which would provide a few of my journal or a certificate or anything at all.
Extremely disappointed and dissatisfied customer,
Just ended up in the Dungeon
Just ended up in the Dungeon, no reason given. We spend thousands of hours on our books, and Amazon bans us for no reason. Now we got to spend hundreds more on new covers and more, hoping we will get out. Complete Monopoly, no where to go. Costing us a huge amount of money. Signing the class action lawsuit, interested in more class action lawsuits. Sickening. Will file a complaint with Europa and ECC soon, if it isn't reversed through a change in description. Yes, Amazon is violating Europe's laws, which state that both a reason for ban should be given, and an appeal.

I CALLED TODAY ABIOUT MY BOOK THE NEW PLAGUE CORONAVIRUS IN AMERICA AND MADED UPDATED CHANGES IN ADDITION, ON THE BACK OF MY BOOK . I AM STILL NOT SEEING THE CHANGES AND THE SUPERVISOR NAME TRACY WAS RUDE IN ADDITION, AS THE AUTHOR OF THE BOOK
5th book blocked for no reason
I've published 5 books, 4 of which are in a collection. 1 of these books has now been "blocked" for copyright. It's all my work, it's all original, I created every word of it from the title to the end. I created the original cover.
The paperback version of it is still available but the digital is blocked. They refuse to tell me what the problem is, they demand I "prove" ownership without telling me how.
The only explanation I can find is that this version of this book has encountered a human reviewer who is using their position to ban content based on their own bigotries and biases.
My books are adult and in the LGBT+ theme.
Why else would they be unable to tell me what the problem is? Why else would the paperback be okay but the digital not? Why else would 3 other books in the same theme by me be okay but this one blocked?
There is also no recourse for the author. Once a bigot human reviewer blocks you based on their personal bigotries you have no higher power to appeal to.
Human reviewers at Amazon can just ban any books they personally don't like and there is nothing anyone can do about it.
I requested a call back 3 times today…
I requested a call back 3 times today the first two people that I spoke to were very nice patient and considerate the third time I requested for a call back when the lady called me. She was very nasty. She was rude. She was talking over top of me at some point, I asked to speak to somebody else she told me that I couldn’t talk to anybody else. She was so rude and so disrespectful and unprofessional. I just hung up my phone, I have to sit and endure disrespect as a customer I demand to be treated with respect, and I even told the lady I didn’t do anything to you from the moment you got on this phone you’ve been nothing but nasty to me and I don’t appreciate that she gave me a headache that’s how much she got on my nerves i’m asking her what’s the measurements? She’s telling me that she can’t design my book. How are you giving me the measurements designing my book at one point she was talking about things that wasn’t even concerning to the reason why I requested a callback I even asked her lare we on the same page? I don’t know where her mental problem was or Her mental status is but for a person to be working at KDP , she should not be working there if she cannot deal with customs on every day basis
Royalties are a joke.
Royalties are a joke.
I spent hours trying to upload in the right PDF format a thick book of 680 pages full of illustrations, drawings, and text...and when I finally made it, the bitter surprise made me rethink and abandon the platform.
Minimum selling price (imposed): $91
Printing cost: $54.6
Amazon cut: $36.4
Royalties: $0
Pricetag at $95 gives $2.80 in royalties.
For a paperback with glued spine that won't last for long, and nothing more, $91 is already to high and impossible to market.
It's a pass.
