I self-published on KDP back in 2012. I published 7 books, 4 were humor focused poems and comics. Around 2018ish I gave up on writing for awhile and kind of forgot about the site. Then at 1 AM C... See more

1 year of hard work lost and I blocked forever
After 1 year publishing hand drawn unique coloring books, I just got terminated forever for not published book. Support just says that I am blocked forever because I used the same title that is already exist. the book title is not copyrighted or trademark, moreover I own all legal documents and trademarks. They ignore my documents. But I just receive template responses from support. Why they ask for documents if they don't review them. Stay away of this platform. You will spend your time on them, and they will just terminate you for nonsense reason and all your books will be blocked. Meantime, there are 10–15 books with the same title selling for years. So it's just a random or time questions when you get banned.
Be careful putting your time into this…
Be careful putting your time into this platform. I have been using them for over 14 years and out of nowhere they terminated my account without any explanation. I had invested many years on the platform and released many books with them. Out of nowhere I logged in one afternoon and was greeted with the message that my account was permanently terminated. I emailed support and got an email back the next day saying they were going to stick with their decision (all without any explanation) and just simply sent me a link to their terms of service (which I do not believe have been violated).
Be careful if you put your time into them, just understand that if you do the slightest thing wrong your account may be banned forever and your novels permanently removed from Amazon including your Author page.
I never received an explanation for the ban, but I think I may have forgotten to check the box next to AI content. Some of my novels have new covers that were completed with a combination of A.I and Photoshop.
Just be careful not to put everything you have into them. Promote yourself and get it so that Amazon and other book outlets need YOU.
Glitchy Website
Their website is constantly glitching and not working, mostly the royalties tab. It’s been N/A for several months now. Despite my numerous calls and emails about it, nothing happens. They try to blame you, your internet, your laptop and your phone for the issue but it’s 100% them. And yes, I’ve tried using both my laptop and phone, cleared my cookies, browsing history, literally everything and the royalties tab still doesn’t work.
I've tried to call customer Service…
I've tried to call customer Service several times and no reps are available and I get hung up on. I have no access to what I've published and only God knows where my royalties are being sent. Oh and they put it for sale in Japan not the USA. I will NEVER publish through them again. EVER. If you want to give away what you write to an incompetent company enjoy loosing your writings.
Abigail Clark, Area Manager, Amazon
Why buy kindle anymore. I enjoy working DSA6 Amazon, good hard worker. But manager Abigail Clark make trouble for me and I lose job months before. She evil spirit who only come negative and bad energy. She have no skill and no knowledge about anything, just stand look at computer. When She talk to you she thinks you stupid but she is stupid and arrogant. She make everyone feel bad and sad. I happy think she lose job also but now my friend tell me she back night shift. My mental health now no good and feel like suicide. My country saying suitable for Abigail Clark. Time and dog come even when not wanted. Why she come Amazon when she only like hurt people and maybe she racist we think. Amazon need good manager not Abigail Clark. She need psychiatric help, her mind not right. Two faces, even if she nice then at end she will give you stress and lie to make you lose job.
KDP: a lesson in frustration
KDP Amazon successfully published/printing/sold my book for 4 years. I put the book on what I thought was a sales hold pending a business decision I was waiting for, and tried to simply resume printing/selling the book. Turns out I cannot. The book is now being treated as brand new and therefore must go through their "updated formatting standards" so now their telling me my book suddenly has formatting errors this time around ( when the book was perfectly printable several weeks ago.) Now I'm told all errors must be fixed and I have to upload a new file before printing can resume: "the technical team cannot grant exceptions for the Print Previewer" -which is most likely a bot. I've printed this book at several printers and no issues whatsoever. I think they want to sell this book as 'new' so they can raise the price. After several years of selling a book, KDP sometimes lowers the price. Their whole process is absolutely ridiculous!
There is a guy there named Franklin…
There is a guy there named Franklin Johnson who PROMISED me results and therefore sales but delivered ZIP then ignored me when I asked for my $200 money back! He is a THIEF!
Why does he still work there? Obviously that’s what they’re into at Kindle BUT NOT ME!!
Amazon's Monopoly on Digital Publishing !
KDP changed eight months ago, and independent authors should run. It's a garbage platform, just like their tablets and other devices. A major class action lawsuit needs to be brought against Amazon as they have mistreated tens of thousands of authors as they control 90% of the digital publishing market in conjunction with indirectly owning the other 10% who are aggregating for them but aren't actually publishing books. This is a monopoly, and it needs to be broken up with immediacy. Please message the Federal Trade Commission as you can file a complaint on their website in conjunction with emailing your representatives in Congress. The future is decentralize publishing. Amazon is a monopoly; don't waste your time! I had published with Amazon for 15 years, and I ended my relationship with them today. They don't have any competition, but as we all apply pressure, change will come as the entire company is operating illegally and in infringement of national antitrust laws.
eBooks with Kindle Since 2009
I have published eBooks with Kindle Direct Publishing since 2009. CreateSpace used to be a separate company and it is now owned by Amazon. Since I haven't ordered a print copy in some time, I'll just comment on the eBook part of their operation, though I do have print books in paperback and hardcover with them.
1. Ease Of Getting My Book Online
Their interface is pretty easy. I will agree, getting a book formatted properly so it will pass the book upload part is tricky. But, any platform will also have problems. It's expensive to get someone to format it for you.
2. If you use a word processor that can produce a .docx, and be sure not to use that tab key or symbols, you are one step ahead. Every true word processor like Word, WordPerfect, or free LibreOffice will have style sheets. Learn how to use these to set your margins and fonts, and start every writing work in your custom style sheet, and you won't have as much of a problem with this.
There are 3 pages in the Bookshelf interface. Read carefully as you get your book ready.
3. You will have to certify that your book is not produced with AI. I don't even use grammar checkers like ProWritingAid or Grammarly because of this. Learn proper grammar and spelling. I am a science fiction author. Yes, I have to go mark every spelling of my made-up words as correct. It doesn't impair me with getting my .docx approved.
4. Cover
I had a little trouble getting my self-designed book covers to pass inspection. Once I learned how to set Dots Per Inch and made my graphics enough pixels by enough pixels, I never had a problem. The software on their website is Art Painter, and you have to give credit to Art Painter in your copyright statement, because it takes your graphic to make the rest of the cover. You can also use a free service such as canva.com to create your cover, just download your finished product as .pdf or .jpg to upload it. There is plenty of help about their guidelines for uploading a book and cover. Follow their instructions and you should be fine. I usually am able to upload my electronic book and cover that I designed, with no problems.
5. Royalties
I don't have a lot of sales, but I can't blame that on KDP. KDP doesn't promote your book or get you reviews. It only makes it available for purchase and the lowest price for an eBook is .99, and print has to be a lot higher because paper is expensive. You have to do your own marketing. Getting from finished work, whatever length, to popularity is not easy. People think authors make as much as movie stars. That's not true. A very tiny number of authors make a million from a book sale, usually because a popular movie was made from it. Most writers simply don't make a lot of money, and there are stats on writersdigest.com if you are interested.
I have made about $50 in royalties from Jul 2009 to today, Sep 24, 2024. I believe my royalties were fairly calculated and I received them in the timeframe stated. I never had a problem with making a book sale and getting paid through PayPal. There are other methods to get paid. I do recommend a Direct Deposit method rather than a check mailed to you, and PayPal is a Direct Deposit method that I've used since 2009 and before.
I think most of the negative reviews here are about services with similar names. Make sure that a service for editing or formatting that has Amazon in its name is amazon.com in the last part of the website address. If not, it's not Amazon. Amazon KDP does offer these services, but all of them tell you up front, paying for them does not guarantee your book will be popular. No advertising is guaranteed just because you have this free account to make your work available.
To be totally transparent, I am moving my books to Draft2Digital for eBooks and IngramSpark for print. I will still distribute through Amazon. I just want my work to be more available to libraries and other places so I might get more sales. I still think Amazon Kindle Direct Publishing is a good way to publish, and it is easier than these other 2 to use. The difference is, Amazon is one company. Draft2Digital is an aggregator, so it exists to get books into different companies' and libraries' markets, and it will give my eBooks an eBook ISBN for free. IngramSpark is much bigger, and is also an aggregator. It, like Amazon KDP, gives a free ISBN for my print books that cannot be used with other platforms, so I'm having to get new ones with IngramSpark. IngramSpark has more markets than Amazon. This only matters for we authors 'going wide' or signing up with multiple platforms. If you plan only to sell on one platform, I highly recommend Amazon KDP.
Good luck to all you fellow authors!
Everything never even got off the…
Everything never even got off the ground—no help; I would not recommend it. sent back an edited book full of grammatical and spelling errors. they could not produce a decent book cover. They made many promises about how wonderful they were and how they could publish my book. It took weeks to answer emails. do not publish with these guys.

Fraud Fraud Fraud kindly don't self publish books on this website.they don't even give single royalty.they are big fraud.you will loss all your book content and doesn't get any royalty and they will terminate your account any time without a valid reason.
And they won't reply you back .choose other platforms .amazon kdp if big scam for new authors.
Not worth it
No customer service. If you want to ONLY publish on kindle it is okay, but publishing a paperback or hardcover is TERRIBLE.
Impossible to upload the item
Impossible to upload the item. No customer service, waste of days of my time
Unprofessional
Rudely, suggestions of poverty, presumptuous, not professional.
Disgruntled staff should beef their managers and not potential customers...Underwhelming experience.

I lost access to my account during moving. Im a author, more then a year later, I still have no access to my books, sales and funds. Amazon KDP steals from authors! GIVE ACCES BACK TO MY ACCOUNT
Wrongful termination
Wrongful termination. Unbelievable.
Got a sudden email saying my account was terminated without prior warning or suspension. The reason was that my book "requires resources beyond a Kindle" but this is absolutely false because it does not, and I proved to them again and again via email with supporting screenshots.
More baffling, they wrote the wrong TITLE in the termination email.
I tried appealing multiple times and each time was "upholding decision" with last email saying "no more insights will be provided"
I have absolute evidence with screenshots and files that my book did not violate the terms they are stating.
I am wondering if legal representation is needed. Does anyone have any insights on what can be done at this time? Any attorneys or litigation methods to review this termination?
I would never use KDP publishing again
I would never use KDP publishing again. The Project Manager was rude and condescending. I only sold 50 copies of my book and after three months, I was told that they were done with me. The book was never marketed to a targeted audience and my costs were about 5k. On top of that, they take most of the
royalty. Trying to get information from them is a waste of time as they deflect most questions. Wish I had the money, I would sue for breech of contract.
