Excellent value and great customer…
Excellent value and great customer service, Location very close to Airport.
Jucy rentals, cheap and cheerful
Jucy rentals gave us a Suzuki Swift for our 13 day rental. We ordered a small car and were more than happy with it. They are older cars and have high mileage but do the job without any dramas. Drop off and pick up were easy with friendly staff. There is a courtesy van from airport then after dropping off car they took us to the Sudima Hotel with is fantastic. Make sure you check the fuel before you depart. Pre departure photos showed the fuel just below full which I thought might just be as far as the gauge shows but just down the road it dropped to 3/4 full. I wasn’t worth going back as it would delay our trip so on return I mentioned it and without hesitation they credited back the equivalent amount of fuel that was missing. Very impressed they did this as I was not asking for a refund just bringing it to their attention. We will use them again.
Avoid if you know what's good for you!
We rented a campervan in Christchurch for 3 weeks. No end of issues mainly with the hot water and heating. No safety equipment was provided either and the grey water tank had obviously never been cleaned as it was stinking. We ended up having to clean and flush that ourselves as it was that bad and the office didn't care.
Despite contact with Jucy and 2 visits to the Queens town depot the issues weren't fixed which resulted in us being unable to wild camp as much as we wanted as were forced to stay in campsites.
When we complained to Jucy they stated that the issues had been fixed in Queenstown (which they werent) as despite us pointing out the issues to the rep back at Queenstown, we saw the van being prepped to go back out with no remedial work carried out. They also stated that due to another booking they wanted the van back early.
Not the best experience and the dont care attitude didn't help either.
AWFUL NOT RECOMMENDED
Awful..NOT recommended. We booked a 3 week hire for my 50th birthday for a " wild camp" road trip. This was through Ratpack Travel ( which has good reviews).
We had booked " express collection" where you just collect the keys and go, however this took 2 hours so not express at all.
When we checked the camper it looked pretty new and externally ok ( we paid a premium for a newer van)
However, there was human excrement left in the toilet cassette which we pointed out to staff who just weren't bothered. The elctric hookup cap was broken as were the outdoor chairs and the plastic bucket for cleaning.
Once we had parked up it became apparent the van had no TV remote and NO carbon monoxide detector. We rang customer services who replies were that we wouldn't be watching TV anyway and we would know if we were on fire so wouldnt need a smoke/co2 detector!!
Numerous faults included :
Water heater broken so unable to use the shower / wash up properly This meant we had to pay to stay at campsites for facilities which wasn't the plan at all.
We went to the queenstown branch twice to try and fix the problem but they didn't know how to amd didn't have a spare vehicle for us to swap on to.
The fridge was so full of ice that it ruined a load of our food by freezing it. It clearly has never been defrosted
The trays on the fridge door were also sticky taped in place and kept falling off which meant the fridge door wouldnt open on many occasions.
Multiple warning lights included no brakes most of the time, which isn't for the faint hearted on the mountain roads.
Customer service was awful, queenstown basically filed a report saying they'd fixed the problem and we were happy.
Christchurch filed a report saying the van was returned with no issues despite the fact we told them all the problems and that it wasn't fit to hire out again until these were rectified.
I've been chasing Jucy for 4 months now after complaint...we have eventually been offered around £200 in compensation which doesn't even cover the cost of campsites we had to stay at.
DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY GO ELSEWHERE .
Had we known Ratpack Travel used Jucy we wouldn't have gone through them .
DO NOT USE!
DO NOT USE!! JUCY charged us a cleaning fine after the van was dropped off and will not respond to our emails asking for proof. When picking up the campervan, we checked at their reception whether we needed to get it cleaned before returning and they said no this wasn’t necessary, just to clear out rubbish, empty the toilet / water etc. This is also confirmed in the terms and conditions. We of course cleaned it to a certain extent before returning meaning we wiped the sides, cleared it out etc. not the extent of mopping the floor as such, as we was told this was not necessary, however it appeared clean, no visible dirt / spillage. So to then be charged $200 (NZ) for a cleaning fee, a few days later without any description or indication as to what it was for, was really frustrating! We emailed for proof and have not heard back 2 months later. Also, when dropping the campervan off there was no one there to physically drop the keys off (just a box), and if there had been we would have checked it with them and could of got it cleaned if there was a problem. Which would of avoided a charge triple to price of getting it cleaned!!! Awful customer service, as said above DO NOT use!!!
If I could give 0 stars I would
If I could give 0 stars I would. There was a mouse in our van and the power didn’t work. They didn’t want to offer any compensation nor pay for the powered campsites we paid for even though the van’s power didn’t work. The customer service is awful and trying to scam with bad replies and gaslighting. Could never recommend them.
Very disappointing experience
Our experience with renting a campervan with Jucy in New Zealand was not so good and I would generally not recommend renting a campervan with them. The campervan we got when we started our trip in Christchurch had a lot of defects, including a non-working stove, a very blocked sink (which is obviously a big problem when cooking 3 meals per day in the campervan), some curtains which could not be closed, some missing items (pan, storage items, etc) and some other minor issues. We spent a lot of time of our holidays trying to fix these issues ourselves and we also asked for some support from Jucy. They did provide support and it was fine. They suggested to get assistance somewhere but we declined because we did not want to spend some precious time of our limited holidays driving somewhere and spend hours there to get the issues fixed. We preferred to live with the issues instead.
The question is how come can they provide a campervan with so many issues from the start? There is clearly a bad job from their side in checking the vehicles before giving them to their customers or maybe they just don't care?
At the end of the trip, I asked for a compensation and they refused to give anything, arguing that they could not compensate because we declined the assistance they offered. I tried to explain them many times that the campervan had defects from the very start of our trip and that it was not like if the defects happened during the trip, but they insisted that no compensation was possible. Very disappointing, I think they should have made a gesture and give at least something symbolic.
If I had to rent a campervan again in New Zealand, I would not choose Jucy again.
We had an extremely disappointing…
We had an extremely disappointing experience with JUCY, and I would strongly advise others to think twice before renting their vans.
From the start, their van was clearly not in proper working condition. The alternator was faulty, which led to multiple breakdowns during our trip. We were first stranded in Harihari for hours with little meaningful help. The roadside assistance sent by JUCY was completely inadequate—they didn’t properly assess the issue and just attempted a jump start, which obviously didn’t fix anything.
Because of this, we were forced into unplanned, paid campsite stays and had to go out of our way to find help ourselves. Even after a temporary battery charge from a local mechanic, their van broke down again within 30 minutes because the alternator was never fixed. We ended up needing multiple tows and lost entire days of our trip sitting around garages waiting for repairs.
Throughout all of this, JUCY’s communication and support were extremely poor. We were left to deal with the situation ourselves most of the time, which is not what you expect when renting a vehicle for a road trip.
On top of the major mechanical failure, the overall quality of their van was below expectations. The fridge only lasted a couple of hours when not plugged in, making it unreliable for travel and adding further inconvenience.
Due to the time lost dealing with breakdowns, we had to completely miss key destinations like Abel Tasman and Arthur’s Pass—places we had planned our trip around. This was incredibly frustrating and disappointing.
Overall, this experience felt like we were given a poorly maintained vehicle and then left unsupported when things went wrong. It significantly impacted our trip, cost us extra money, and caused unnecessary stress.
I would not recommend JUCY based on this experience.
Do NOT rent Jucy or StaRV van ever
Amendment: this story worth details.
Executive summary: do NOT rent a Jucy or StaRV van ever! Or you will spend your vacation in workshops, with road assistance, and on the phone with Jucy customers support.
I rent a motorhome for 4 weeks.
After 5 days, the batteries was flat. It caused my family and I to spend 1 night in a hotel while the battery was charging in a workshop. We also realized that the fire extinguisher was missing, so we purchased on.
12 days later, it is happening again. The road assistance specialist mentioned that the motorhome needed a deep electric analysis because something was consuming energy from the engine battery even when the engine was off.
I called Jucy, I had Mel on the phone, and she literally told me to wait for more instructions and hang up the phone. After hours of negotiations on the phone, Jucy agreed to organize a swap. The bus arrived at 8:50pm, it was about to be completely dark. We agreed with the driver to do the swap in the morning. When doing the new bus inspection, I called Jucy to understand how to fold the sofa at the back into a bed. As a result, the table that would help to create a bed was missing. Furthermore, after 100km drive, a message on the driver screen mentioned “break force distribution visit workshop”.
We will return the bus before the end of our rental to end this nightmare.
Don't Rent a Camper by Jucy
Totaly bad service during the Rent!
Fridge was broken and there was no possibility to get with Jucy in Contact.
We had expectet to stopp where we wanted, so with no Firdge we had to stay on Campgrounds! Old Car,our had 245000 KM. on the Meter....
Multiple issues
Toilet leaked urine into the bathroom. Roof leaked. Gas heater stopped working. We didn't report this during our trip but did so when returning the motorhome. Employee told us that we should apply & receive compensations because what we experienced was not good enough. However management thought differently - because we didn't report it IMMEDIATELY we were not entitled to any compensation refund. Disappointing in not only the motorhome itself but the after care management.
Won't be using this company again unfortunately
Poor Experience renting from Jucy New Zealand
I hired a Jucy campervan in October 2025 and reported multiple issues starting on 10 October. These included: water leaks inside the vehicle (shower/toilet wall and driver and passenger footwells), a faulty sliding side door that often jammed and could only be opened from inside by reaching through the window (which soon also stopped opening), a non-functional forward collision warning sensor, a broken crockery drawer rail with loose screws, a broken latch on another drawer, and multiple missing curtain clips.
Jucy’s response times were slow, with long delays of 1–3 days between emails. Instead of arranging a repair promptly, we were told to visit hardware stores to buy sealant and attempt our own temporary repairs for a $30 reimbursement. We were also asked to divert our route to visit distant repair locations despite providing our travel itinerary early in the trip. On 14 October, Jucy said they would arrange a repair near Manapouri, but after that email, communication stopped. As of 21 October, there has been no response for 7 days and no resolution.
This has now delayed our attempts to resolve the matter and resulted in a vehicle that was not as advertised or fit for purpose. Very disappointing experience due to poor response times and unresolved safety issues.

I would not recommend using this…
I would not recommend using this company. My partner and I were provided with a camper van that had issues with tracking, so was veering off the road, and also the domestic battery wasn’t working so we couldn’t charge things even when connected up to the mains at campsites. We returned the van and were provided with alternatives, all of which had black mould in the bathroom and on the roof on the inside of the van. They refused to give us a refund. I am not one to complain about services usually but I don’t want people to have this experience.

Unsafe Vehicles filled with Black Mould
I rented a campervan from Jucy in late September 2025, and the experience was appalling from both a safety and health perspective.
The first vehicle supplied had dangerous steering and tracking issues, making it unsafe to drive. Jucy staff admitted this after attempting repairs for over 2.5 hours and being unable to fix the fault.
They then offered several replacement vans — each one visibly contaminated with black mould on interior surfaces. Their staff acknowledged that other vehicles had the same issue, while attempting to claim the marks were “just stains.” Even after I offered to pay extra for a newer or clean van, I was told none were available.
At that point, I had no safe or habitable vehicle, and my trip was effectively ruined. Jucy’s eventual response was to refund only one day’s hire — despite failing to provide any vehicle fit for purpose.
The combination of mechanical safety faults and black mould exposure raises serious concerns about Jucy’s fleet condition and maintenance standards. Health and safety should never be compromised to this extent.
Travellers deserve to know the risks before booking — based on my experience, I would strongly caution anyone against renting from Jucy until they address these serious issues.
You get what you pay for I guess
You get what you pay for I guess. They have the cheapest campervans around with lots of leniency for driver restrictions, so you get very poor service and bad campervans in return.
General Comments on the van
Pros
- Van was mostly good for the price and had everything as advertised.
- Kitchen area worked well
- beds were mostly comfy
- Surround sound speaker system was cool although reverse camera would've been much more useful
- Plates, mugs and utensils provided
- bedding provided was comfy
Cons
- No reverse camera
- No battery level indicator on our model
- Very tight fit for 4 people, I wouldn't go above 3 unless you want to be packed in like sardines
- No seatbelt for the middle front seat. We saw other jucy vans with people in it so we presume our van was the exception
Personal Experience with our Van and ajicy Services
- Water tap didn't work for the entire duration of trip (1 month). I went to Jucy to get it repaired twice and both times it stopped working about a day later. No reimbursement given
- Snow chains provided were broken. They slipped off the wheel and caused damage to the underbody of the van. Despite being provided broken chains and having standard insurance we were told we had to pay for the damages totalling $600.
- Absolute clowns working for the incident claims team. Took them over a month to send an invoice for the damages, to which they said they couldn't find my claims form although I had proof of them having at the time of the damage. They then double charged me for the snow chain replacement an additional $200 that I had to follow up on to get refunded. No apologetic remarks from them despite numerous mess ups.
Overall not bad if you want a budget camper so long as you keep your expectations low and dont mind the occasional thing not working. However if something goes wrong and you have to deal with their team, be prepared, that is where most of the negatives lie

If i was able to give this company ZERO…
If i was able to give this company ZERO stars I would! we hired our van from Christchurch for around 2 weeks to which we had no working USB ports and we had exposed electrical sockets and broken window covers leaving us exposed. We also had a significant roof leak which forced us into hotels on the last 4 nights of our trip.
This review reflects the same as the others, that you are promised compensation in the office and told to email the operations / feedback email addresses where you are absolutely IGNORED!
Avoid this company at all costs they are an absolute disgrace - save your money and go elsewhere to avoid a terrible experience and to avoid driving in vans that are not roadworthy!

As other people state in the comments. If it is well all is well. Unfortunately, a lot is not well. No compensation, no regards, no service.

Leaking camper van
Camper van provided leaking during rain. Contacted to customer service and no response. Customer service in this company is a joke. Even you have to pay little extra go with the better one. Never go with Jucy.
Run away
Our experience with JUCY was very disappointing. The van had numerous issues: leaking windows (which we had to tape ourselves), a fridge that stopped cooling, a non-functional shower, broken curtain fasteners, dirty kitchenware, and missing essential items like a peeler or cutting board.
Even after following their recommendations (plugging in every 3 nights), the battery was not charging properly, and the fridge drained all power — confirmed by a mechanic we visited at our own expense. JUCY advised us to send a summary by email, which we did… but no one ever replied, even after multiple follow-ups.
We expected much more from a professional rental company, especially after paying for powered sites and enduring all these issues. Unfortunately, we cannot recommend this service and will not rent with them again.

The only honest review you need to read…
The only honest review you need to read today about Jucy Crib rental in Christchurch. Service was relatively fast upon check-in/check-out—not the best, but hey, you can't expect perfection.
You get what you pay for, these aren’t the newest campervans, and not everything will be ideal. These cars are constantly in use, but the value for money is definitely worth it.
Pickup and drop-off from the airport were smooth, and everyone was nice and polite. The car didn’t give us any trouble, despite having many kilometers on it. We loved all 15 days of our South Island trip, covering 3,600 km, and would book with Jucy again in a heartbeat.
Don’t pay attention to bad reviews from people complaining about small things—those are the kind of people who complain about everything. Jucy was definitely a great choice for us!
