Line managers not required to deal with emotional distress from direct reports
When employees display feelings of emotional distress to line managers it is not the company standard that the line managers should respond with empathic communication to further understand why, and therefore may affect work. Rather direct communication directing them to contact EAP or Human Resources is considered to be the acceptable process. HR then directed to other support networks. No feedback required to be sought by Line Managers. This can have the effect of negatively affecting the working relationship going forward.
