Review summary

Created with AI, based on recent reviews

Considering 55 reviews, most reviewers were let down by their experience overall. People frequently described the staff as unhelpful, rude, and difficult to communicate with during appointments. Consumers expressed deep frustration regarding poor customer service, long waiting times, and unreturned messages. Many felt that the institution offered little practical help with job hunting or career training. The minority of people were satisfied with their overall interactions, mentioning that certain advisors provided friendly, professional, and efficient assistance. Oxford Job Centre

The lady who dealt with my query, Maggie, was an absolute diamond. Held very good conversation, very engaging and helpful and if I had any queries in the future I’d definitely be happy to approach Maggie.

USELESS

Job centre is a waste of people’s time and money. All they are interested in is checking if you have been job seeking, so as to ensure you remain eligible for the pittance of JSA.
No help to find jobs which may be suitable. No courses or support.
5 months out of work following redundancy and all the jobs applied for and any interviews have been found by myself.

Job Center Plus is just waist of taxpayers money.

As per my opinion Job Center Plus is just waist of taxpayers money. I cannot say anything bad about my coach, she was always friendly and nice, but that it. No help with the job search, no courses, no trainings, just nothing.
I've stopped coming there as my job-seeker allowances stopped and was still a job-seeker.
I do no see a point of this institution.

Left waiting for 50 minutes to be seen

So many bad experiences it's hard to know where to start. But most recently, left sat in there waiting 50 minutes for my appointment, and after half an hour asked what was going on. I was then challenged "did you arrive late?", I said no, early actually. It turned out my new work coach had gone AWOL on her lunch break, the one who had literally turned round to look at me before walking out, so I thought "it must be another person". He said I would "just have to wait" until she comes back. When she did, she claimed that she didn't know I was there, despite looking straight at me, and me reporting in as soon as I arrived. If we're so much as 10 minutes late we get a sanction.

Unhelpful work coach

Everytime I go to the job center in hayes the work coach dnt listen and are not helpful. They force you on courses which dnt benefit me. I said I'm lookin for retail work but my coach is forcing Me into civil service job. Today I went there an was spoken to rudely because I didn't apply to a course she sent me that I didn't want as its not what i want to get into. They have no respect an talk to us like we are a nuisance. They seem to forget they only have a job because we currently don't. Feel anxiety each time I have an appointment. Also I realise anything u mention they dnt pay attention to you. They are just trying to tick their boxes. People dnt know how to be kind, professional and respectful anymore.

BEDFORD BRANCH

BEDFORD BRANCH. 57 Bromham Road. My word; made to feel like a criminal or what. The experience with the two desk based Universal credit handlers was ok. But the back office staff supporting Giulia were awful. Just because you shut a door don’t mean people can’t hear you. As for Audrey at the job seeker desk. Clearly not happy in her role. Find someone who can smile and not judge people maybe?

Very unhelpful

The staff here are evidently unable to retain information or give proper advice. I have been messed around over part of my claim for many weeks because of the failure of the staff to clearly explain what was required on my part (a very simple matter). Due to the bad advice and delays, I have been fairly badly compromised, and the matter still hasn't been resolved. Very poor. They should be held to account for their negligence and misleading guidance.

Why is it when you speak with people…

Why is it when you speak with people from the job centre they seem to think they have some higher archery because there employed and your currently not but they feel to speak to you rudely or abrupt like your stupid or below them! Ive had better paid jobs than these advisors but unfortunately events occurred that lead me being unemployed so that does not give job centre staff that right to speak down to people have some human decency

They don’t help you with anything

They don’t help you with anything. I’ve had 2 open recruitment days I’ve found out of my own time. Through friends also. You would have thought someone at job centre would do their job properly and actually help people for work instead of leaving them in the dark for months.

Please read this honest review

I'm sure I have written a review before for this place. The staff sit around and do nothing, if you get there 5-10 minutes early like they ask they just use that time to chit chat or sit on their mobile phones. All these desks and two floors, but at least 10 staff members around. They stop your money and give you a "sanction" or threaten to close your claim over silly things, such as not providing enough evidence of what they need, instead of telling you that you've missed things out or not provided the right information, or even explaining, they wait at least two weeks, send a message into the journal saying your money has stopped then send a message to your phone number letting you know you have to log on. They then decide to tell you that your missing information. All they have done is stop and start my money because of a fault on their behalf. You try to communicate with them and all the excuse is "unfortunately this isn't my area to do something about this I'm just told what to say so it's not up to me". I'm a young woman who's been out of work for 6 months, and have finally found work 🙏🏽however I do not start for a little while so need money to support myself and bills. They do not care that I have bills to pay as the staff member I had said it to my face. The job centre is somewhere to provide you with money to support you whilst out of work, out of the 6 months I've been looking for work I've been given less money than what they told me I should be getting or leaving me with £4.98 for a month. The job center should also help you look for work however ask you what types of jobs you've been looking for and then dismiss you after 5 minutes. Their other partnered company business 2 business (restart scheme) is no use either an hour long appointment just to be asked by staff how your day has been and random other things instead of helping/pointing you in the right direction for work. All staff between the two companies are useless and rude. As long as they are getting payed and the boat people have money to spend, young people like myself or people who are actually struggling get dismissed or money stopped over the staffs faults and wrong doings.

Lengthy calls

I have had to phone the job centre and the wait is absolutely ridiculous since they centralised it. Was much easier to just call the local one. Wait times are anything from 10 minutes to over an hour. Yes it's a free number but what a waste of time!!!

Aggressive, unprofessional staff

When I arrived for my appointment today at the job centre in Macclesfield, Lucy asked whether I had an appointment. She checked the system but couldn’t locate it, so she searched by my name. She then informed me that the appointment had been cancelled because I was supposedly working, which was not true. While trying to find further information, she made several mistakes and became quite defensive and aggressive when I asked questions. Her colleague eventually had to intervene and explain how the system worked. At the end, I politely told her there was no need to be aggressive, but she replied in a raised tone, insisting she wasn’t being aggressive. Since her role involves constant contact with people, professionalism and good communication are essential. If she is unable to fulfill this aspect of her job, it might be more appropriate for someone else who is willing to perform their duties properly. Everyone can have a bad day, but it should never be taken out on customers.
