Created with AI, based on recent reviews
The Interaction Design Foundation (IxDF) is a global design education institution. Established in 2002, we pioneered online video-based courses a decade before online learning became mainstream, at a time when AI, user experience (UX), and user interface (UI) design were barely recognized as distinct disciplines. Today, IxDF offers evidence-based curricula taught by 250 industry leaders, grounded in both industry practice and peer-reviewed research. With 1.2 million enrollments and local chapters in 495 cities across 105 countries, IxDF is the largest and longest-running design education institution in the world. IxDF is where leading practitioners and researchers in design and AI come together to build online education that sets the gold standard for the industry. Our entire institution is built around a singular focus on design and AI. This allows us to build curricula of depth and rigor with industry leaders. IxDF has become a meaningful part of how I continue to grow as a senior product designer.
For me, the biggest value has been in the masterclasses. The format fits well into a busy schedule. They move beyond foundational UX theory and focus on how to think and make decisions in complex, real-world situations.
I’ve used IxDF both as a structured learning tool and as a reference when I’m in the middle of solving specific challenges. The content is clear and grounded in practical frameworks that translate directly into my day-to-day work – whether that’s shaping research, aligning stakeholders, evolving design work, or operating in the fast-moving world of AI.
One thing that has genuinely stood out to me is the support. Every time I’ve reached out, the IxDF team has responded quickly and been helpful in a very real, human way. That level of responsiveness adds a lot to the overall experience.
Overall, IxDF has been less about “taking courses” and more about continuously sharpening how I work. Especially valuable if you’re already experienced and want to operate with more clarity and precision in your practice.

Unwanted renewal, poor communication, no refund policy
Interaction Design Foundation renewed my membership and charged my card for another year without my explicit consent. I didn’t want to continue and only noticed the charge on my statement a few hours later.
When I asked for a refund and cancellation, they refused, citing a “no refunds on renewals” policy and only offering extra months, transfer, or donation of my membership instead of giving my money back.
They will send marketing emails WITH the renew information. Their renew email is called "Get ready for another great year with IxDF", with a lot of courses links, and THEN the renew information, so it is easy to skip.
As an EU consumer, I expect clear consent for renewals and fair treatment when I promptly say I don’t want the service.
Same as a lot of people here, and based on my experience, I can't recommend Interaction Design Foundation and strongly advise others to be very careful with their auto‑renewal.

I joined the IxDF because I was curious about UX. How did it make a difference in the way I experienced products I loved and others that I didn't? I learned that it starts and ends with people. From the tools, methods and processes through the approach and the attitude of empathy the UX design method is human centred. An intuitive no-brainer, eh? But, in every situation in all my various career paths, I would be called on to advocate for the human centred perspective because, in the sturm & drang of product development, the critical human centred focus can be drowned out by the urgency of conflicting agendas. The call of ROI is very compelling but the faith in the UX process comes from the experience of its efficacy. It works. Time after time and the IxDF people helped me every step of the way by being very human themselves. Behind the programming are problem solvers, educators, mentors and friends. I endorse them without reservation.

The Interaction Design Foundation (IxDF) offers excellent courses that are detailed, thoughtful, and taught by knowledgeable instructors. The material is well structured and genuinely helpful for anyone looking to deepen their understanding of UX and design principles.
What stood out to me most was their team. When I missed a payment, they were incredibly kind and understanding. Instead of immediately cutting off access, they reached out and worked with me to find solutions. They helped me save my data and even extended my off period until I was ready to join again.
That level of care and professionalism really reflects the kind of community IxDF has built. I highly recommend their platform to anyone interested in learning UX design.

I was on crossroads of my career in October 2025, starting UX design path after years in different fields. I joined then one of free webinars of IxDF and thats how I found them. Now, 5 months later, I am confident Product Designer with couple of courses completed, enjoying networking meetings with other designers and building my portfolio. Mentor support is incredible in showing the right way and setting goals, and the trainings are totally worth it. I specifically enjoyed the Accessibility one.

If I could give less than a 1 star I would. This program was advertised to me as a chance to learn something new. It didn’t work out, I changed career paths, and time kept moving for me as a busy mom.
I realized a pending charge of almost $300 when I wasn’t aware they would just auto charge for a new year.
When I reached out about this letting them know I haven’t used the program in months and will not because I changed career paths they refused to stop the pending transaction and instead suggest I pay for someone else’s membership with the money they took from me.
Again I’m just a working mom, I don’t have $300 to spend on something I will not be using or to hand out to someone else.
This is something I would NOT do because if you’re not sure and your life moves fast like everyone’s does they are a cutthroat company that will take those $300 from you kicking and screaming wether you can afford it or not.

Commenting purely on my experience with their customer service and onboarding in my first few days of membership.
Co-Founder Rikke Friis Dam has been extremely helpful and accommodating me on fees and the course.
Coupled with the excellent reviews and numerous recommendations for the IxDF, I am very pleased with how I have been heard and treated and think I have made a sound decision.

For a company teaching UX they engage in dark patterns that make cancelling a membership very expensive.
I will be brutally honest here, an email sent on the 1st January titled ‘Get ready for another great year with IxDF’ does not clearly look like a notice for automatic renewal or a warning that you're about to be charged £200+ – especially not when the crucial line of text advising about the automatic renewal and HOW you cancel is wedged in the middle of the email without emphasis.
Very dirty and dark UX practices. I contacted support about a refund and was told there's no option for a refund if you're no longer a new member (as in your account is older than a year) - the option is to cancel and lose access to everything you've paid for IMMEDIATELY or to pay it forward, which frankly is not an option. It's actually quite insulting they suggest that as if it's an equivalency to a refund.
I would honestly avoid. I used IDF to compliment my job and explore additional learning in my own time, but the course materials are very outdated. Personally I'll only be using accreditated sources from now on, now that I realise IDF is a predatory company.
Update: standard boiler plate response. IDF did respond back and repeat that the only options available to me are to cancel my membership and lose access immediately to everything I've already been charged for, or to pay it forward (i.e, transfer my subscription to another account or to a friend) which frankly, is not a good option to provide.
Imagine you want to cancel your Netflix subscription and they say no refund even though you've just been charged without prior notification, but oh hey, IF YOU WANT you can "pay it forward" and give your subscription to someone else.
What bs. Scam company, be very careful if you want to try them out. Search for honest reviews online by searching the company name on Reddit and LinkedIn - I'm not the only one who's been hit with this tomfoolery.

Interaction Design Foundation is genuinely one of the best learning platforms available for anyone looking to deepen their design skills. The breadth and quality of the courses are excellent, covering everything from fundamentals through to more advanced and specialised areas.
I personally saw a noticeable improvement in design capability and confidence across my team after our org started using IxDF, and the structure of the courses makes them easy to follow and apply in real work. The certificates at the end are also a great touch and a nice way to recognise progress.
On top of that, the customer service experience was outstanding! Very responsive, thoughtful, and handled with real care. It’s clear there’s a strong, values-driven team behind the platform.
Highly recommended for individuals and teams looking to invest seriously in design education.

This is one of the most valuable, affordable, and genuinely human-centered educational design platforms I’ve ever discovered.
It offers plenty of courses and a wealth of information that remains relevant over time, because it focuses not on fleeting trends, but on strong fundamentals that help build a solid design mindset step by step - like constructing a building brick by brick.
I also want to highlight their outstanding support. Rikke is always there - responsive, attentive, and genuinely supportive. She answers questions, helps work through doubts, and truly cares. When I was going through financial difficulties and couldn’t renew my subscription on time, Rikke reassured me, explained that I could return later without any issues, and even made me an offer I simply couldn’t refuse. Thanks to that, I know for sure I’ll be coming back as soon as I sort things out.
Every cent is absolutely worth it!
The only thing I’d love to see improved is the addition of more new courses :)

The Interaction Design Foundation was a key factor in my development as a designer. The content was always well-structured, easy to access, and based on rigorous research, which over time made it easier for me to develop my knowledge of UX and human-centered design.
What I value most about IxDF is its capability to facilitate continuous learning for users at any stage of the design career ladder. Whether you are reinforcing fundamentals or delving into more strategic subjects, clarity is provided without being trivial. I also like the very strong global community and the chance to learn from practitioners and researchers all over the world.
All in all, IxDF has been a trustworthy and significant source for learning throughout my journey, and I am well pleased to recommend it to designers who wish to keep evolving in an intentional and profound manner.

“AI won’t replace you, but a designer using AI will.”
This motto really resonated with me as I completed the AI for Designers course from the Interaction Design Foundation, led by Ioana Teleanu.
What I took away is simple but powerful: AI isn’t here to take over the creative work designers do — it extends what we can do. Designers who integrate AI thoughtfully into research, ideation, and workflow will be more efficient, more innovative, and ultimately more competitive.
AI isn’t perfect — it still needs human judgement, direction, and values — but when used well, it elevates the design process at every stage. I’m excited to keep applying what I’ve learned and continue growing.
Big thanks to Ioana and the team at IxDF — this one’s going on my career journey board.

I have been a member for more than three years. The courses have helped me to get a better understanding of UX as a student who is curious to learn more. We get to be part of a community who support each other to build the skills.

I used to be a researcher working in UX design. Interaction Design Foundation helped me to gain core knowledge and insights into the world of interactive design on multiple platforms, including mobile devices and laptops. I especially loved the lectures on accessibility and gaming, which were notable interests of mine. Rikke is also incredible kind and personable on the administrative side of the site, so should you have a question about your account or different services, know that you’re in good hands. I would highly recommend this service if you want to learn more about UX design or join a community of UX creatives, whether you’re new to the field or looking to cultivate an established skill set with some recent research.
