Charged for Phantom Employees
I've had 2-3 incidents where new users were randomly created due to "Active Directory" and there is no way to disable this. There is no notification of a "new employee" and they refuse to refund for the unused seat despite clear evidence that there is no activity for past 3 months by said "employee". You have to be diligent in spotting this when you receive your monthly bill. Unscrupulous practices, buyer beware. The software itself is adequate.

To clarify, Insightful automatically adds as “employee” any user who logs into a computer with the software installed. This functionality exists to support scenarios where multiple employees share a single workstation, but also for security reasons - such as identifying who was logged into a device if any unwanted activity occurs.
However, we do offer the option to exclude specific usernames (e.g., “administrator”,“support”, or specific domain) from being added to the platform and tracked as an active license. If you'd like, we can ask our Development Team to disable creation of these users on your account. This will help significantly with managing active licenses.
While refunds aren’t available, we’d be happy to offer account credit for any unused licenses during this period.

🚫 Business Owners Beware: Insightful Will Cost You — Not Save You
I rarely write reviews, but my experience with Insightful (formerly Workpuls) demands a public warning to every business owner who is considering this app for employee time tracking.
❗ The Problem: You Will Overpay Employees for Time They Didn't Work
The biggest and most dangerous issue with Insightful is how it treats scheduled shifts. If you assign a scheduled shift (say, 8am to 4pm), and your employee clocks out for lunch, Insightful doesn't end the shift or subtract the time they were off the clock.
Instead, the system continues counting that time as “idle” — but still within the shift, meaning it is included as work time in reports. In other words, your employee could be completely clocked out, and you could still be paying them as if they were working, based on Insightful's reports.
This is not just a bug — this is a system design choice that can quietly cheat you out of hundreds or thousands of dollars over time.
🧩 Customer Support's Explanation Makes It Worse
When I contacted customer support about this obvious flaw, they told me my employee should use the “break” button in the app rather than clock out.
But here's the catch:
That option wasn’t even visible or available in my employee's app.
The default behavior — what any normal person would expect — is that clocking out stops the work timer. Not with Insightful.
Instead of acknowledging the issue or fixing it, support said they’d “pass it along to the development team” and defended the system’s current behavior.
💰 They Refused a Refund
When I pointed out that the software misrepresented work hours and caused potential financial losses, I asked for a refund of the fees I paid. Their answer? No. No apology. No accountability. Just a polite brush-off.
🐛 Oh, and It’s Buggy Too
In addition to the core issue of misleading time tracking, the app itself is buggy. The interface can be inconsistent across devices, and expected features don’t always show up (like the missing break button). This leads to a poor user experience, both for admins and employees.
⚠️ Final Verdict: Avoid at All Costs
If you’re a business owner trying to track time accurately, Insightful is not just ineffective — it’s dangerous. It misrepresents work time, inflates hours, and exposes you to unnecessary payroll liability.
The very foundation of a time tracking app should be accuracy and trust. Insightful fails miserably on both counts.
I have canceled my account and am actively exploring alternatives with accurate time reporting and transparent break handling.
Don’t learn the hard way like I did. Stay far away from Insightful.

We’d like to clarify that our shift scheduling feature was designed to help businesses compare scheduled hours with their actual work — whether employees started early or late, worked overtime, undertime, or had larger periods of inactivity. This gives our customers more visibility into how closely scheduled time aligns with productive time.
Many of our customers, especially those using Insightful for payroll purposes, base their compensation on Productive Time or Utilization %, rather than scheduled hours. This allows for a more performance-based approach to payroll.
Regarding breaks, we understand your concern. In order for the Break feature to be used properly, the employee must have the necessary permission enabled in their settings, and then double-click the Break button. We acknowledge that this workflow may not be intuitive for all teams and are actively working on ways to make it more seamless and visible across all devices.
As for the refund request — we genuinely regret that you felt disappointed. While we’re unable to issue refunds for the full period of past usage, we’d be happy to explore together how Insightful can better support your needs. If you’re open to it, we’d like to jump on a call and discuss how Insightful can be utilized for your needs and allow a certain period of free POC so you can take full advantage of the platform’s features and see if a tailored setup works better for your team.

Terrible experience and we got nearly 700$ stolen
Absolutely terrible experience, the employees management is confusing and once an employee uninstall the agent or reset their PC is nearly impossible to recover that user and that's by design, so that you'll add new employees and they will charge you for that.
We got wrongfully billed 691$ because of that and after contacting the support they said they cannot refund because their Terms of Service (haha of course!).
At least they have removed my credit card so I won't be wrongfully charged again.
We spent over a thousand dollars on this and I really regret.
I'm currently wasting a lot of time to set up those agents and users, and I am a software engineer, not some kind of computer-illiterate manager.
And to whoever will reply to this review, don't tell me to contact your support, I've already done, and don't hide behind your terms of service, that's despicable. I don't want credits on the next invoice, I want a refund.
I DO NOT advise anyone to use insightful.io services.

The tool would be better if it allowed make the 3 points detailed above
The tool would be better if it allowed manual time to be entered by clicking on the spaces marked as idle time, since it is difficult to calculate the start and end time of idle time.
We need to be able to grant permits on the same day of the event, today they must be entered until the end of the shift.
Downtime should be turned off automatically when computer activity is detected, just as downtime should be automatically turned on when no activity is detected.

If you don't want to track all of them, you can deactivate them and won't be charged for their license.
