Writing with Hurley Write

Hurley Write was great in helping me think of ways to improve my writing. I enjoyed looking at examples and rewriting them using the lessons she had just taught the class.

My only detraction would be that alot of the information she spoke about was not captured in her notes. It would have been nice for her notes to have more of the details she wrote on the board.

Hi Christophe, I'm a bit puzzled by your response that much of what I talked about wasn't in the workbook; in fact, the lecture followed the workbook exactly, so everything that I discussed was, in fact, in the workbook. The workbook doesn't include everything that I say, of course, because part of engaging the learner is to have the learner listen and make notes. Thanks for your feedback!

Great Practical Training

Completed a one day training at the company I work at and really appreciated the practical information shared and application using documents provided from the company. The training included skills that can have immediate impact and the course material was presented in a balance manner that made the day seem to go by quickly. Pam Hurley was the trainer and she did an excellent job keepng everyone engaged. I work in research and development so it was great to learn that regardless of the type of document, the writing principles explained hold true.

Writing Scientific Papers and Delivering Presentations Course

The class was excellent, with many opportunities for feedback and practice. For anyone who has to write or present, the tools, techniques, and concepts covered are invaluable. The organization I work for seems to assume that scientists and engineers learned everything they need to know about writing technical papers and delivering presentations in college, and doesn't see a need to provide ongoing mentoring and training, other than informally. Hopefully that can be changed.

Writing class

The class was very informative and well organized; the only one detail that I would work on is the materials that were distributed in class. While the packaging is professionally done, the content needs to have more examples and something that the student can take home and “hang their hat on”. The instructor is very knowledgeable and has a wealth of information that she lectures therefore, if that information can be captured in the hand out that would make the class a 5-plus star.

Thanks! The workbook has lots of examples and the content is designed to be instructive. In addition, participants have multiple opportunities to apply concepts, which are designed to give them real-world experience and "something to hang their hat on." Keep in mind that the examples we use come from workshop participants and therefore the number of examples are determined by these samples; for this workshop, only about 1/5 of participants submitted samples, although all participants were invited to submit.

Customized one-on-one writing tutoring

I've chosen to do business with HurleyWrite twice in recent years (once for an employee, this time for me). The Technical Writing online course was high quality both times. Pam adjusted the emphasis in her feedback for skill development, depending on the ability and needs of the person taking the course.

The aspects I particularly appreciated were the ability to use 'real' writing projects (not busy-work assignments), the quick turnaround on documents for review (and the quality of the commentary provided), and the concise written take-away items. I finished the course with practical tips that I will actually remember and use -- and a writing project that shows progress made.

Good course especially for beginning writers!

I think the classes provide a good foundation with thought-provoking ideas for individuals who want to know more about writing. Pam and MJ make it easy to understand and are very timely with critiques of the writing assignments.

Best technical writing class available

We brought Pam to our facility for individuals at a range of writing levels, everyone was impressed and challenged. This class provided a new way to look at developing documents and pointed out some of our flaws. We will only improve from here thanks to this class. We are already looking into the other offerings this company provides as well as bringing them back in for those who missed it the first time around.

Well-Informed and Led

The training was very well done by a professional, who was clear and concise. Everything was very well thought out and I have started using the things I learned. My only suggestion - more homework! :) Highly recommended overall.

Hurley Write provides valuable writing instruction.

I have become a more effective writer with the instruction offered through the online modules, and the related writing exercises following each section. Pam Hurley provides constructive feedback, and emphasizes specifics of the lesson.

I would gladly recommend Hurley Write to anyone seeking writing instruction, and would like to take another class myself.

Good class to learn the specifics of technical writing

Over pretty good class. The information was informative. Course material is good as well. Feedback on homework assignments was prompt!

For some constructive criticism....Maybe consider providing example homework problems and solutions in the primer or cheat sheet (or new document). While examples are offered in the videos, it would be good to have reference problems and solutions in .pdf form or similar.

The classes are knowledgeable and informing.

Pam provided various writing examples and demonstrated how to improve writing of documents. Focusing on the subject and getting to its point Not using a lot of extra wording or “fluff.” The class makes one more cautious of their writing capabilities.

Loved the class!

I attended the Technical Writing class in Jan 2015 and learned some great tips for writing more concise and better organized technical reports. Pam kept the class going at a good pace, and added in a lot of humor, so it was never boring. Thank you for an excellent class!

Technical Writing Course

The course was an excellent course. PhD Write presented the material in a way that was comprehensive to all. She took her time to teach what was important, and effective. This was the second time I had taken her course and I still learned various techniques to apply in my writing. I recommend this course to all types of professions that have to correspond in writing in their field.

Well planned course

Pam is professional and knowledgeable, if a little cynical at times. The course topics were explained well and useful to me. Writing exercises were a great way to reinforce the topics and I enjoyed them, although I wish there were more that included our own writing. I would like more time spent on technical formats, as it was left as the last two hours of the twelve hour course. It seems like the course material was geared more toward pharma companies whose documents require more persuasion, as opposed to formatted procedures and templates. As a writer stuck with designated document formats, I can't really use what I learned but I can definitely put it toward future writing.

Hi Joani,

Thanks for your comment! Just so you know, ALL of the examples and breakout sessions used in the course were from participants in the course; that is, all of them were work-related samples.

Valuable

Pam came to our location and gave us a very valuable training on writing that applied to many aspects of our day to day work; emails, protocols, procedures, reports, etc. I have not taken a composition course since undergraduate school and much has changed! I highly recommend Hurley Write. Bring Pam to your group, you won't regret it.

Worth every cent

I have had the pleasure of taking the vast majority of the online classes offered by Hurleywrite. I believe that my ability to write and communicate as a whole have vastly improved as a result of the comprehensive approach Hurleywrite uses. I have taken a number of classes from both universities and commercial vendors and at best, they were inadequate.
