Refuse to transfer money out

My wife and I have the same repeated problems with Hughes customer service. As our CDs mature we have our brokerage make transfer requests prior to the maturity date. Sometimes they receive them. At other times we need to have the brokerage make an additional request. When we confirm the paperwork IS received the transfer NEVER takes place seamlessly. Instead of closing out the account the CD is ALWAYS automatically renewed against our wishes. In the latest case a rep named Teri tells us they have up to ten days to transfer the funds and it will be done by “the end of the week”. When a manager is requested to give us a call back via the secure communication portal she simply responds back with the general number saying to call and ask for one yourself. We have another complaint in with the NCUA. I would have to say based on repeated experiences your money is not safe with them because they refuse to promptly transfer it out upon request.

Don't EVER Refinance Your Vehicle With Them

I made the HUGE mistake of going through this 3rd party that uses Hughes to refinance my vehicle. Hughes did not disclose late fees or that there were any type of charges that would be added to the loa on the back end for not providing them with my insurance information. This is simply a racket because just like the DMV, Hughes can verify that there is insurance on said vehicle, but instead of doing that, they jut keep purchasing Collateral Protection Insurance (CPI) on your behalf, without your permission, and adding it to your loan without you even ever having had agreed to it. Avoid this credit union at all costs. Their practices resemble a predatory a lender.

Insurance fraud

Insurance fraud. They don’t even deserve a one star. I refinanced my car with Hughes credit union in May of 2025 . The payout amount to my previous lender Capital one was $12000, however, they charged almost $5000 to the refinance loan. All the contracts were signed with Hughes and gap insurance. The purpose of Gap insurance was to pay part of the cost of the car if there is a situation where the car cannot be operated. The auto insurance payment wasn’t due until July/2025, and in June /22/25 the car was in a collision and it was a total loss. My insurance made a settlement of $9446.82 and the third party company paid them for the warranty of $2,752.36, however, Gap insurance did not pay anything because they said they have insufficient information from Hughes The two payments equal the payoff amount to capital one. When
Hughes received a check from my insurance company, I called and let Hughes know that the check was paid and the rep told me yes the check was paid . I asked her if the payment satisfied my side of the settlement and she said yes. I also asked her if they won’t put anything on my credit for the remaining payment and she said no and that was the last time I spoke with Hughes. Last month I applied for a loan and the bank said that my credit score doesn't meet the loan requirement. I then went online and checked my credit and found Hughes reported that I owed them $7111 and that I also owed them for auto insurance payments. I tried to explain to Equifax the issue and even sent them proof but they went on and reduced my credit score one more point down. Today I called Hughes and spoke with a rep at the total loss department and she told me I owed $4,358,82. I asked why Hughes reported to the credit bureau that I owed $7111 and she said that was owed before auto approve paid their warranty settlement of $2752.36. And I asked if they are going to change the amount and she said no. She said I have to call Gap to pay the remainder of the loan or else I have to pay it. I told her that wasn’t in the terms of the contract and that was the purpose of the gap insurance. Why not go after them to pay as the contract said. If I had $7111 , why would I take a loan that doubles the price of my car. Please do not use this company for anything because they will never have your back when they can’t get their high interest rate payments from you anymore. Through the whole process, there was no sympathy. It was all about money grabbing . They kept adding interest to the auto insurance for a car I don’t have. I was wondering why they wanted a police report. It just came to me that, they might not believe a real accident occurred. I told them the police came to the scene but they said they don’t write report anymore unless there is a death. I called Gap and they told me that they did not receive my insurance payment breakdown from Hughes and that is why they closed the case. They gave me an email address to send insurance payment information and I did. When I called to asked if they received my email, they told me to contact Hughes and Hughes told me to contact them. Playing games with me. Contacts only work for greedy companies not for the consumers. They sign contract to put consumers in high interest debts and made them to believe that they have security in case of unforeseen circumstances like mine , so that we won’t feel too bad. Don’t be fooled!!!

Acting in Bad Faith

They give you a number when you sign up to call and verify your account. I've called it for weeks, nobody answers, its basically a fake number. I've called on more than 10 different days, at random times to try to get them to pickup. Waste of time, and misleading.

Horrible Customer Service!!!!

I have had a Hughes Business Account for over 5 years. My employees tried to cash their paychecks there and the employee there insisted on a "phone access" code which I have NEVER had. The teller then stated that she wouldn't cash their checks even though they were business checks and she verified by calling me on my cell and I provided SS # and Tax ID # When I told her that if she refused to cash their checks, I would pull the money from Hughes and put it into my other bank account, she stated "Do whatever you want!" and then slammed the phone down and hung up. Horrible customer service.
