I have HSBC premier accounts in 3…

I have HSBC premier accounts in 3 regions. I was given an appointment to open an account in Taipei and told 'no problem you just need your passport and ARC (both of which were inspected when I made the appointment) When I arrived at the appointment I was told I needed proof of Taiwan (not foreign) address. In both China and Hong Kong my UK address was sufficient... Why did they not tell me before I made a special trip back to Taipei for a pre-arranged appointment for which my documents had already been verified.

*Professionalism* in Taiwanese banking

I have not met any employee at HSBC Taiwan Tainan Branch who speaks English. So, there goes their stated claim of being an international bank.

I recently applied for a credit card after an employee informed me of some benefits that come with it.

The approval period took roughly two weeks.

Afterward, I was expecting my card to arrive within one week.

One week came and went. So I decided to call HSBC and tell them that no credit card came.

I was told that another card would be sent to me, this time via registered mail.

Beware that HSBC sends out some credit cards to customers in plain envelopes, without registered mail. Such was the case with my very first credit card.

Hardly bilingual for an international bank

Hardly bilingual for an international bank.

Website states that you can walk in at any time to open account, but when I tried to do that, they made me make an appointment for a week later. The process was a bit non-standard when it comes to banks in Taiwan - the application was not approved immediately, I had staff call me more than once the next day to confirm more information, and was only approved the day after that. Getting physical secure key took another trip to the branch a week later. All of this was done in Chinese because staff at this branch speak 0 English.

Phone support only pretends to be English; they could not understand the simplest of queries and again I had to revert to Chinese to explain my problems. Chat support actually understands English but they take forever to reply (using translator?) and usually can't do anything other than relay messages to someone else who will call you back (in Chinese).

There's a 3 month grace period for not meeting the premier threshold after which the $1000/mo fees start. They send you SMS with a note saying you can get fee back if you deposit within 2 weeks or so. In my situation though I wanted to qualify via a connected account abroad. BE AWARE: connecting it in the web interface is not enough! You need to head down to a branch in order to connect them for the premier status to propagate. I learned this too late, after the 2 week grace period, so $1000 down the drain.

They are being stubborn when it comes to credit cards too. Despite providing a guarantor, they are refusing to grant me a card unless I store 200k for 3 months with them. Given how annoying it is to argue with them (in Chinese), I complied and am waiting those 3 months out now. If they reject me after this, I will downgrade the review to 2 stars. If they give me one with a good limit, I'll upgrade to 4 stars.

I should note that at least one branch had someone who could speak very fluent English so try your luck if your Chinese is rusty.

HSBC has a global network;If they…

HSBC OPERATES WITH ITS SO CALLED GLOBAL NETWORK FRAUD! I OPENED A BANK ACCOUNT IN HSBC TAIWAN IN 2018.THEN THERE WAS NO PROBLEM IN CUSTOMER-THE BANK RELATIONSHIP UNTIL LAST MONTH.ALL OF A SUDDEN THEY TERMINATED THE BANKING SERVICES BY ONLY SENDING LETTERS AND A CHEQUE TO THE REGISTERED ADDRESS WHICH I NEVER RECEIVED, THEY NEVER GOT IN TOUCH WITH ME IN THE PROPER AND MORE SECURE CHANNELS BEFORE THE TERMINATION DECISION MADE..I LEARNT THIS TERMINATION ONLY AFTER I TRY TO LOG IN MY WEB BANKING THAT I COULDNT COMPLETE IT THEN AFTER SENDING EMAIL TO THE BANK, I FOUND OUT THAT THEY TERMINATED ALL BUT NEVER EVER THEY REVEALED THE REASONS. THEY NEVER EVER THEY INFORMED ME PROPERLY BEFORE THE TERMINATION AND MY MONEY IS SEIZED BY THE BANK AND IT IS FRAUD..THE LETTERS AND THE CHEQUES ARE ALL LOST AS WELL..THIS IS THE BANK YOU WANT TO CO-OPERATE WITH?/ STOP THIS BANK AND DONT GIVE THIS BANK TO DO MORE FRAUD OVER THE OTHER CUSTOMERS!!..MOST LIKELY,THE HSBC TAIWAN TERMINATED MY ACCOUNT WITH AN ORDER/INSTRUCTION WHICH CAME FROM A GLOBAL NETWORK OF HSBC OVERSEAS IN A FRAUDLY MANNER:HSBC CONTINENTAL EUROPE UNIT...The worst bank I had to deal with. Aside from terrible and outdated service policies, employees always try to scam and take your money away in every way possible. They just terminated the account by a fraud instruction with its balance disappeared. I know most banks have a reputation for fraud but I can affirm this one is the best one of a kind.
HSBC has a global network; If they terminate the customer s account in one country then another Hsbc country can also terminate the account without any reason suddenly..Hsbc Taiwan doesnt serve well.Their services are really bad..In Taiwan, there are so many better banks that Taiwanese fellows and others can opt to use..Stay away from this bank!!..Risky services and awful customer polices!!!!
They give so much troubles to the customers with their service manner and policies..It is inconvenient and inefficient bank!!!Dont co-operate!!!!
