HP printers - not what they used to be

I preferred HP printers when you bought one, unboxed it, plugged it in and it worked.

Now I need to connect it to the internet so that it can download software (why not install the software in production?). It needs wifi (what is wrong with ethernet connections) and after fighting with it for 1 hour with the ink installed, the paper added, connected to wifi - it still wont print. If HP are using AI, its NEARDERTHAL.

And to rub salt in your frustrated wounds, the install software is call "HP Smart" - more like "HP Stupid".

In balance, once I got through the frustration of the set up, the product itself is good quality, works well and is good value for money.

I just bought a brand new HP printer…

I just bought a brand new HP printer but I'm having a lot of trouble setting it up. 3 times I've spoken to somebody on the phone and 3 times they were absolutely rude and hung up. I don't have the answers that I seek and wish to hell I'd never bought this thing. Customer "service" is shoddy to non-existent. I'm fuming. I have a brand new printer that I can't use. The most recent phone conversation told me to "just take it back to the shop" and I'm "wasting peoples time" by asking how to do something that the set-up guide doesn't cover. I'll never buy another HP product again. 0/10 stars.

the printer has not worked properly since purchased. Paper says constantly it's out of paper when it isn't. There is zero customer support. When i got a new wifi password with Sky it was almost impossible to get it to connect- this is just a dreadful product, dreadful customer service. I will not be buying a HP printer again...

Worst printer

Printer does not always connect with the computer. Crumples up the paper when printing a large document. Constantly jams. Will not scan, no matter trying every set up. Just not worth the money, actually a piece of junk.

HP Smart Tank 580 Printer - Slow and temperamental

HP Smart Tank 580 Printer
This is the first bad HP printer I have owned - and it is really bad. It is very slow. producing much noise and activity before eventually printing. And sometimes just noise and activity and no printing - despite messages saying that it has completed the job. The clunky HP app is less than useless for trouble-shooting or solving the problem. You have to uninstall and then reinstall the printer multiple times to get it to respond. Do not be tempted by the claim that the printer comes with a year's worth of ink. DO NOT BUY THIS PRINTER

The main issue is connection and making it work

The main issue is connection as I am finding it impossible to connect it to wifi as it wants, I only want to connect the printer with my computer and it works through ethernet but the scanner is unavailable and wants me to connect to wifi but gives me no options that I can find to do so. In brief it is only for tech experts with time to waste to connect the HP smart tank 5106 printer, I do not have anymore time to waste, cannot take the thing back to the store and will most likely give it to some kid to play with, after spending a considerable amount of money I will now go out and buy another printer, nevermore an HP.

How is their printer so poor? I genuinely can't understand how rare it is for me to actually print something without some issue such as connectivity, endless loading, or just no response

I wish I could give Zero or even…

I wish I could give Zero or even Negative stars. I signed up for an HP ink subscription to have ink mailed to me monthly, covering roughly 50 pages/month. I can buy more ink if I need to. Apparently, somewhere in the sign up process, the verbage changes from ink subscription to printing subscription and they charged me for copies that exceed 50 copies/month. They have charged me an outlandish amount of money for copies I did not make. I would NEVER pay to make copies on a printer I bought (not leased). I cut my printer off to confirm their fraudulent count of copies. They actually sent me an email telling me to turn on my printer so they they could keep an accurate count of my copies...what??? If my printer is off, that means I am Not making copies. Even w/ that they came up with a fraudulent number to charge me more. Their practices are fraudulent. I will never buy another one or anything from them again. I will tell everyone I can not to buy a printer/product from them. To be clear I called twice but they have people who assist the scam and told me I exceeded the number of copies I was permitted to make with a printer I purchased. The extra ink cartridges they sent, that I never used because they were fabricating the number of pages printed, will no longer work now that I canceled my subscription. They charged me so much for them and I won't be able to use them. If I do use them, then they'll fabricate more numbers and charge me more. Please buy your products from another company. HP uses deception. Now that I know what to look for, I see on the website it says Ink plans, but underneath it says Print plans...Deceptive.

Bought a HP Smart Tank 7005 and its a disaster. After printing less than 50 pages the cyan head has failed. Trying to navigate the support pages is horrendous. Today the printed has connect and disconnect to the wifi repeatedly, printing out 80 pages of connection reports by itself. What a total waste of money, i wont be buying HP again.

Anti competitive?

HP tying you to their ink may just constitute anti-competitive behaviour. Looking at my issue and at the comments of so many, I am sure HP’s legal team has advised that … let see if anyone picks it up, or willing to take action?

Maybe it is time for a class action to see if this does not shake them up and out of this.

Never again

Had no idea that this company can monitor your personal activity and apparently remotely stop the printer working. Since buying it pretty much everyone I've mentioned it to has some HP horror story to relate. I am outraged that a company has the ability to interfere with the use of something I have paid for in full. Would never buy another HP product.

Wish I could give zero starts

Wish I could give zero starts. Had ANOTHER nightmare experience with the ink subscription. HP didn't send cartridges (for 6 months) and trying to get support forced into Orwellian AI chat and when I finally got through that I wanted to cancel my account and wanted a person, the only option was to PAY to talk to somebody. THEN I figured out how to cancel only to learn that unless I bought cartridges from them, they had disabled my printer. EXHAUSTED by how horrific my experience with HP has been, I am recycling this less than a year old printer and bought an Epson.

HP LASERJET M140w

Bought this printer in 2023, it always had issues didnt even use it that much honestly for it to go out of line so often, ive done a few setups and the last time a whole factory reset, now even that doesent work and looks like its disposable. Went out my way to get a cable to be able to print since it wont connect no more to the internet plus direct print is also broken, what you know HP doesent have a driver for mac os 15.5 which i have... class action law suit, NOW!

What an absolute scam- AVOID at all costs!

What an absolute scam! They make you pay for the ink on subscription and if you cancel they blacklist and you can't use it. We've barely used it over the year and did one big printing lot which they ended up charging us more than it costs to print it at the library (where the cost there covers the paper and ink too!). We got charged an extra £30+ for printing 200 pages which would only have cost £20 at the library. Why on earth would you want one of these at that rate?!

Plus they send extra ink cartridges even if you're not using them (obviously as we pay for them) but now that were going to cancel for good they will be unusable and are a complete waste of resources as well.

We're going to throw it out, cancel everything and tell everyone we know to avoid them. Never ever busy from these people, biggest scam ever and you can't even contact them to speak to anyone about it- shameful!

Avoid like the plague

Avoid like the plague. Ridiculous ink situation with permanent subscription whether you use or not without supplying ink meaning for the average user it is ludicrously expensive. Gave mine away after three months of being conned.

Bad experience with HP Smart Tank 7005

I bought my HP Smart Tank 7005 about 3 years ago. It worked (mostly) until out of warranty. Now I've had endless connection issues. Support have now told me that the wireless board has died and advised I throw the printer away and buy another!! Instead, I have been connecting via USB, which is a pain when sharing printer with others, but works. Today I cannot connect at all. The HP App tells me the printer software is not from the manufacturer and therefore may not work. I also cannot find any drivers for Smart Tank 7000 series on HP support site!!!
When reading other people's frustration with HP over similar issues, I think they owe a big apology to their faithful customers. I now have an expensive printer and a stock of ink that I can't use.
