Housemates is an absolutely fabulous

Housemates is an absolutely fabulous, reliable company. They were able to specially help me find my newest accommodation which is perfectly suited for me and my partner and as a dual occupancy, cheap as chips!
Anytime I’ve had any issues or problems they are my first line of call and never hesitate to sort out any of my problems.
Fast replying and very reliable. I have personally recommended housemates to many people and would continue to do so!

No rent schedule or contract 3 days before move in

I booked a property on the 22nd for a move in on the 2nd the next following month. As a middleman service this business will bring you nothing but stress. Deflection of blame is a common trend in this business and it is a very easy thing to do on the behalf of the middle man given that the client isn’t in direct communication with the landlord/operator. First, immediately after sending my deposit I’m told the property isn’t available and would only be available next year to later be told they’ve chased the operator and managed to pull some strings to get the property for this year, as if they deserve any commendation for this. 4 days before my moving date was when they thought would be an appropriate time to send my deposit which I’ve paid to them directly only to be followed up with yet another excuse of payment issues on the operator/landlords behalf which will give a further delay. Come the 29th, 3 days before my scheduled move in date, I am not given any information on my rent schedule which I’ve requested since the 22nd, not knowing what I will have to pay before I move in. I am also fed another excuse on the 29th which is where I’ve decided to withdraw my application. Make of this as you will but all I could tell you is to save your stress and money and use another service they have zero accountability and rely on excuses and testing of your patience instead of a no fuss smooth transition to get things done. The agents will also make you blind promises of calling you back at a set time and will not call you back so if you choose to do business with this company expect to be chasing them everyday to see what new excuse they can come up with because their personal guarantees etc. is just verbal vomit without any substance.

First time moving away and everyone was so helpful. They have been brilliant with customer service, emails get responded and phone calls get returned soon as they can. It was an easy process and would recommend it.

Disappointing

None stops calls, emails, messages borderline intrusive. Took £250 to make booking, then said room was no longer available and tried to keep my deposit. Still not got my refund back. Disappointing.

No complaints, very helpful

I was looking for a uni accommodation but I was struggling to find one that suited my needs and wants. I finally found one and went to apply for it but I got a phone call from one of the workers, James McKendry, who politely explained that the place I was trying to apply for was fully booked. He then proceeded to ask me what requirements I wanted for my new place and offered to help find me some options. Not even ten minutes after the phone call he had emailed me 3 accommodations that fit my requirements perfectly. He was so polite and very helpful, listened to what I had to say and took action to help find me the best place for me.

Poor customer service

I have been waiting for a refund that housemates.io owes me due to their poor management and staff training. I have been in contact with them on WhatsApp and filed a proper complaint on email but it feels like I’ve been scammed of my deposit money. As a student I don’t have much money so this causes me serious emotional distress. Here’s the email that I sent a few days ago:

To whom it may concern,

I have been messed about by your team for nearly a month now, and I am suffering from emotional distress from this. I wanted to have a place secured for next year before January due to the lack of accommodation in Bristol and time given the complexity of my course. I have wasted my time because of the poor management of your company, time that now means that I have to spend 3x more money on deposit than I would’ve had I not fallen into one of your colleagues’ deception. This colleague also mocked and disrespected my culture and family name, and also took advantage of me as I am a foreign student. Please find proof attached to this email.

I have been talking to your team regarding accommodation since the 16th of November. One of your employees named Shittal led me into paying a deposit to the company Collegiate for a 'dual occupancy' studio at Tower in Bristol. After booking, he created me an account to the portal of Collegiate accomodations and when I logged in, I noticed that my name was carrying my boyfriend’s surname instead of mine, after many attempts to change my name and failing, I asked Shittal to change it as it is disrespectful to my culture and family, as well as illegal if I then sign off a contract because I’ll be signing as a fake name. He insisted that it will be changed shortly but never did so I asked Collegiate for help with the matter.

On the 30th of November, I found out that Tower doesn't do dual occupancy; after a sending a complaint on the same whatsapp conversation, a worker named Damzi, said that Shittal has been fired and since I had requested my money back she sent a message saying that I will be 'contacted shortly' by your team.

13th of December and I still haven't received any money and keep getting told that I will be 'contacted shortly'. However I contacted tower about the refund on the 3rd of December and they have sent proof that they refunded my money to your company on the 5th due to me paying through a link that your colleague sent to me. So I have now done your job for you and I’m still waiting for my money. Your team member Damzi has now stated that they ‘will seek to compensate me with £100 on top of the £100 refund’. She has avoided sending me the correct contact details for filing a proper complaint when I asked as well but the words ‘seek to’ doesn’t really sound comforting and I’d like a confirmation at least and I think it's fitting that I also get more compensation.

I hope that I hear from you soon and that this matter gets sorted at quickly as possible!
