Excellent service friendly and no…

Excellent service friendly and no pressure applied to purchasing a new vehicle.
Danny salemans was fantastic in his approach face to face meeting and telephone calls. Polite explained aspects of the vehicle seeking to purchase. Called through the purchase period with updates. I would recommend Horsepower to future customers and will be definitely returning in the future.

Went to horse power last month to buy a…

Went to horse power last month to buy a car, whilst looking over the car I mentioned the breaks were very thin and was assured at least 6 months left on them. (Spoiler alert, they did not!) I also mentioned other things that were not up to standard. When in the office I was told if I send them a list of parts that need changing they would send them out to me or allow me back for them to fit. I chose to fit the parts myself. When paying and signing I was then hit with a £170 odd fee as their mechanic ‘apparently’ did a full check on the car before hand. (By the other reviews I can tell their mechanic is either blind or actually a hairdresser.) we payed and drove away with the car. All the way home the wear sensor on the breaks were screaming at me so as soon as I got home I contacted Danny who assured me he would send the parts out if we sent pictures of the breaks. All sent and all correspondence was in text and email so proof is there. 1 month later multiple phone calls, multiple texts. An email giving them 14 days to respond and still nothing. We ended up purchasing the parts ourselves, only to realise when coming to fit them that they also didn’t supply the locking wheel nut key.
So another text.. where’s the key?
Oh we will send it out with the rest of the stuff. Again in text! We still haven’t heard anything and are now looking at paying £160 to have them all removed as they are also damaged to that a key doesn’t actually work!
I would not reccomend this place if it was the last car garage on earth. They are rude over the phone and even with all the reassurance in the world they still cannot follow through on a simple promise. Another email will be sent today, and we will be taking this to small claims court.

Everyone do your research before you purchase a car from here. The only reply people seem to get is ‘ your car isn’t a brand new car blah blah.’
yes but it should be road safe!! Sold as seen doesn’t exist in law.

A little context for anyone reading along: the car in question is a 14 year old Vauxhall Astra, just shy of 120,000 miles, sold last month for £1,800. A warranty was offered and declined. Everything present on the car was visible at the point of sale, and on a 14 year old, six-figure-mileage diesel at that price, wear-and-tear items such as brake pads are exactly the sort of thing the "PX to Clear" classification exists to flag. Pad life at point of sale is always a visual estimate, never a guarantee of months.

The car had been a daily driver for its previous owner for some considerable time, only changing hands because they were moving up to a bigger family estate, which they bought from us and traded the Astra in against. It then served us perfectly well as a pool car during its time with us for sale, regularly used as an emergency loan car and for customer collections and drop-offs, so by no means a car on life support. No-one is suggesting it was fault-free, no £1,800 car ever is, and what counts as a "fault" really comes down to individual expectations. Anyone buying a car at this end of the market expecting a faultless, maintenance-free ownership experience is, with the greatest of respect, setting themselves up for disappointment. It was honestly described, fairly priced, and presented in a condition consistent with its age, mileage and PX-to-Clear status when it left us.

On the locking wheel nut key, and the parts you've mentioned, we'll happily get the locking nuts removed for you and pick up the parts conversation properly. We don't ignore people, we don't do dodgy, and when we've got something genuinely wrong we put our hand up and fix it. After 24 years in Tonbridge and 1,177 Trustpilot reviews at 4.4 stars (for context, Harrods sit on 4.1, and they're not selling £1,800 cars), we're not going anywhere.

Nevertheless, come on down Wednesday, Thursday or Friday next week and let us have a look for you and see what we can do. Alternatively, get in touch directly using the contact details provided at point of purchase and we'll take it from there.

My partner’s daughter brought a Corsa…

My partner’s daughter brought a Corsa from this garage and I wish we hadn’t the after sales is absolutely shocking they couldn’t give to tosses about you and the warranty ain’t worth the paper it’s written on. And as for Danny the salesman he’s a useful as a chocolate fire guard. Extremely poor service. Avoid this garage like the plague.

We're unable to identify who you are or which transaction you are referring to, but we can take a fairly educated guess. For anyone reading, this is a one star review from someone who knows someone whose daughter bought a car from us, a third hand account from a reviewer who has never dealt with us directly. The literary flourish of "ain't worth the paper it's written on" is perhaps a clue as to the depth of first hand insight on offer here.

This is what we politely refer to in the office as a "rage review", an off the cuff, knee jerk vent posted in the heat of the moment by someone who is not the customer, has not been involved in the transaction, and has not actually checked the facts before reaching for the keyboard. They tend to be long on adjectives and short on detail, and this one is no exception.

To the three points actually raised...

After sales: the description of "absolutely shocking" sits a little awkwardly alongside rebooking the car in the day after collection for a complimentary second oil and filter change, sourcing a spare tyre at trade price as a goodwill gesture, and offering two further workshop appointments which were not attended.

Warranty: for clarity, we do not administer the warranty. It is provided and authorised by a prominent national third party warranty provider. We have had no contact from them regarding this claim and, prompted by this review, we have now reached out to them for comment. Hardly the conduct of a garage that, to use the reviewer's phrase, "couldn't give two tosses."

Danny: a long standing member of our team, named personally in hundreds of our genuine five star reviews. The chocolate fire guard line says rather more about the author than it does about him.

The actual buyer is always welcome to contact us directly. We are confident that a proper, first hand conversation would paint a very different picture to the one offered here.

You get a video of the service and advice prior to the MOT to save you money in getting work done.

Perfect first car for my daughter

My daughter wanted a specific car and I managed to find a good example at Horsepower. They were never pushy, answered all my questions and I travelled a long way to pick up the car and I wasn't disappointed. It was an older car, but I drove it home over 300 miles and it didn't miss a beat. Danny was great and took good care of me throughout the process which was very straightforward.

I was given time to look around all the…

I was given time to look around all the cars without pressure and was actively encouraged to allow my dog to jump into the car (after I had put the blankets down of course) to make sure he could do the height - they were very accommodating. I rate them 5 out of 5 for their professional and friendly staff.

Been using them for 15 years

Been using them for 15 years. Then then they sold me an absolute Pup. Nearly killed my wife and I after 6 months. Total break failure on the A21! No wonder they didn't offer me a warranty! As a disabled driver I was completely in distress. It's probably worth nothing now. I've lost thousands. Local garages raised their eyebrows when I mentioned where I got from........ tells me everything!

Firstly, we're glad nobody was hurt.

We were also sorry to see this from an alleged 15 year loyal customer. We've had a look through our records and can see 7 visits between 2009 and 2021, the last being in August 2021, some 4 years before you purchased the Range Rover Sport. We're not sure that quite qualifies as 15 years of solid custom, but we genuinely appreciated every visit all the same. Just keeping the record straight.

Now for a little context for anyone reading this. The vehicle in question was a 16 year old Range Rover Sport sold in June 2025 as a Part Exchange to Clear. This was made very clear at the point of sale. A warranty was offered. All MOT advisories were disclosed prior to collection, not to mention publicly visible online. The vehicle passed its MOT (elsewhere, before our ownership) and left us in a roadworthy condition.

You mention we didn't offer a warranty. We did. It's on the paperwork in bold capital letters.
The vehicle was then driven without issue for around 6 months (as you say) before a fault developed. On a car of this age and mileage, wear and tear items such as brakes will inevitably need attention over time, and regular maintenance is essential. That's not a reflection of where you bought the car, that's just the reality of owning a 16 year old Range Rover Sport. Put simply, it's the product, not the garage.

Interestingly, your own service history with us includes two visits in 2021 for brake failure on your Land Rover Discovery 3, so you'll appreciate better than most that older Land Rover products do require ongoing brake maintenance.

As for local garages raising their eyebrows when you mentioned our name, we'd gently suggest they were probably more surprised that anyone would expect a 16 year old Range Rover Sport to look after its own brakes indefinitely. We'd like to think our 2,000+ Google and Trustpilot reviews, 4.3+ star rating (Waitrose have 1.8 stars on Trustpilot, for context, and they sell Heston Blumenthal ready meals, not 16 year old Range Rovers) and over 20 years serving the Tonbridge community tell a rather different story.

What does surprise us is that in almost 10 months since collection, we haven't heard from you. Not a phone call, not an email, nothing. You clearly had a different garage looking after your vehicles from 2021 onwards, but our door was always open and we would have been more than happy to help, which is what we do every single day for customers who pick up the phone or walk through the door.

We actively encourage all feedback, positive and negative, as it helps keep a balanced and transparent picture of our business.
