My letting agent got an incentive payment, Homeshift got a cut of the bill
My letting agent, who was solely employed for rent collection not for property management, received an incentive payment to use Homeshift when my tenant moved out. Unbeknown to myself or my tenant, Homeshift closed his dual fuel account with my service provider and set up a new account with OVO. Homeshift gave an inaccurate reading and OVO opened a new account in my name with that reading. OVO's Welcome Pack was sent to my agent. For 6 weeks I did not understand why I was not receiving my provider's usual acknowledgement of end of tenancy, putting the duel fuel account back into my name. When I rang my provider they said the account had been closed and because of data protection they could not disclose who the new provider was. I had to ring a national fuel supplier register to find my account had been transferred, without my knowledge or consent, to OVO.
I immediately changed the account back to my service provider. No energy had been consumed at the empty house so I just expected to pay 6 weeks' standing charges. However, OVO billed me for the difference between the inaccurate reading submitted by Homeshift and the actual reading. I understand Homeshift also receives a percentage of the amount of the bill from OVO.
It has taken me 2 years of correspondence with OVO who have apparently accepted my version of the story twice but have nonetheless sent out a final bill every year since asking for the (non) outstanding fuel cost.
After receiving another final bill two years on, I spent one and a half hours on the phone with OVO today. The incorrect readings were corrected when I said that the whole sage had been a scam that I would report to Report Fraud. OVO generated a complaint, acted on it immediately, agreed a refund to me, and closed the complaint. To be fair to OVO they had acted in good faith having been given false information, but they had chosen to partner with this rogue company, had twice accepted my explanation and had continued to bill me for 2 years.
Homeshift had closed an account, opened a new one in my name, without my knowledge or consent, had submitted a false reading and I was being required to pay for energy I had not used.
I'm relieved it has been sorted out, OVO has apologised and I have not been overcharged. But this result has only been achieved through careful interaction, hours of checking my records with meter photos and hard evidence by making calls and sending emails with a persistence and sense that I will not be tricked or pay up because it is too daunting to fight my case. I am lucky as a pensioner with time to waste on this. I feel sorry for others who have harder life circumstances than me and pay because they do not have the time, energy or resources to argue with a big business with inflexible automated services and a small business with unethical practice.
Harassing me with debt collectors
Homeshift made multiple errors when I attempted to leave which caused a lot of stress. My account was eventually closed with no outstanding balance in October 2020. Somehow, i am still receiving Intermittent contact from them or a debt collection agency demanding £1.97. I have had apologies and assurances that this issue is resolved, then I get another call from debt collectors. To make matters worse there are no details about how to contact them on their website. Don’t use them - they’ll haunt you forever.
Absolute poo
I've been trying to contact homeshift for over a month in regards to an email I received telling me I owed them money (which i dont) and that they're trying to set up a direct debit.
I am no longer a customer of theirs nor do I live at that property anymore. I've tried calling repeatedly but the line no longer seems to be running and I've emailed them multiple times to recieve one response email 20days after, I responded to that email 4 days ago and I'm still waiting for a response!
Homeshift are a con
Homeshift are a con. Letting agents use them as the letting agent take a % of your bill.
They overcharge by upto 50%
They refuse to take real reading when you finish with them, and go on what they want.
If you rent a property with these folk, change your supplier IMMEDATELY to a another and save£££
If I could give 0 stars I would
If I could give 0 stars I would! Sent a large bill I don’t owe over to a debt collection agency who have been harassing me for the money. I’m a single parent!! I have sent all proof of payment over to them but I’m still being chased.they say they will look into it but I never hear back. I had to set up a payment plan to avoid bailiffs and the constant harassment even though I know I don’t owe anything. After reading the reviews on here seems I’m not the only one! Avoid at all costs!!!!
Beware Homeshift debt collectors Barratt Smith and Brown
Homeshift was brilliant in setting up everything I needed when taking a short let whilst I was at University as a mature student. However, having vacated the flat nearly two years ago I received a bill by email for £9.03 from their debt collectors Solicitors Barratt Smith and Brown which I paid the same day, 29th November. Since then I have had two chaser emails from them for the money the one this week confirming bailiffs, county court judgement and the destruction of my credit rating. After the first chaser email and a 15 minute phone wait I managed to speak to one of the team. Her responses were beligerent and suspicious and although I offered a screenshot of my bank statement she said it wouldn't be necessary. She was wrong clearly. I don't think Homeshift's initial success outweighs this BSB debt collection experience
just avoid these people
just avoid these people - they bill incorrectly and chase you for money you don't owe. they then refer to dept collection agency incorrectly
they also have poor customer service and have withheld overpayment from me.
Awful
Disgraceful company should be formally investigated- AVOID
Previously with Homeshift several years ago for a very temporary period while we had to live at another property while our own was refurbished. Paid up in full, closed account and didn’t think of it again until yesterday over a year and half later when we received the most threatening horrendous email out of the blue from a debt collector claiming we owed £11.29 and they were going to come to our property and take items to the value!! My husband and I were horrified, we have never missed a payment in our lives and I have a perfect credit score rating. Not once in over a year and a half until this email yesterday had anyone attempted to make contact with us to advise of this ‘outstanding payment’. We then attempt to make payment through the debt collector portal and launches my bank app asking me to input my private pin access, felt extremely suspicious so I took along to my manager at my local bank branch and they advised fraudulent and not to submit payment. I then found a way to transfer direct with bank details as concerned debt agency would progress further and destroy my credit rating, however will now be pursuing formal complaint/report to fraud services. Now makes a lot more sense reading other reviews on here, seems to be a repeated pattern with Homeshift, closing accounts with customers advising all settled and then years later pursuing outstanding ‘debt owed’ all extremely suspect and honestly if I were you- I would just spare yourself the hassle of this stress years down the line and go with any other service/internet provider than Homeshift!! Terrible just terrible to treat people this way
Terrible experience
Terrible experience, my account supposedly had £11 outstanding and they handed it over to debt collectors.
They had my payment details on file, honestly, just deduct the money.
Glad we ended the service.
The most incompetent service provider I…
The most incompetent service provider I have ever dealt with. Expensive and low quality, their customer service is awful, cannot be contacted, their systems are not working properly, and they cannot help you with any complaints, the customer service puts the phone on you... Don't recommend using them for anything.
Disgraceful excuse of a company
If I could rate this company 0 then I would. Absolutely appalling excuse for a company. I am receiving countless letters from debt collection services for a debt of £0.02 when I haven’t used the company for around 5 years. The flat I rented recommended I signed up with them so I did which was a big mistake as it was nothing but trouble. Even years after terminating all ties with them I still get plagued from different people working for Homeshift for payments that I’m not sure how they have calculated I ‘owe’. Avoid at all costs!!!

Pursued by a debt collection agency for a debt I do not owe. Sent for debt collection 10.11.2023
Homeshift and the debt collection agency are ignoring my contact !
I was in credit before leaving the property. But that doesn’t seem to matter!!

Sent debt collectors for 32p. Joke of a company.
I switched away from Homeshift in 2020, at which point they owed me a refund of several hundred pounds. After they sent me the refund, I didn't hear from them for years, and suddenly I got several threatening messages from a debt collection agency saying I owe Homeshift money. (Apparently, it's 32p. Yep.)
Not to mention shifting away from them was a nightmare because they wouldn't allow it at first, even though I was paid up in full.
Absolute disgrace of a company.
Homeshift is a disgraceful company
Homeshift is a disgraceful company. When I joined for internet connection, in 2020, on the advice of the company renting the flat to me, I was led to believe the company was helpful and considerate of customers needs. That was a lie, their helpline staff were utterly useless. I cancelled the contract and went elsewhere. I paid my bill by direct debit to 25/12/20, then made a further payment at their request on 25/1/21. I moved out of the flat over 2 years ago and suddenly get a demand from a debt recovery company. Today I got an email telling me to phone them immediately. I did but couldn’t get past the man asking for my debit card number. Homeshift should be taken to court for threatening behaviour. How dare they treat customers like open wallets.
Terrible company.
I was briefly with this company back in 2019, I paid my bill that I owed. Homeshift sent me a bill for nearly 600pound which I didn't owe. I took the case to the financial ombudsman and won my case. Homeshift were told to leave me alone and not contact me. Homeshift energy went bust. I had a debt company contact me for a bill I do not owe, my solicitor has taken care of it.
They escalate to debt collection with no notice.
I would like to preface this by saying that while I was actually in the contract everything seemed fine. The internet connection was fine, the price was fine, and the account open and closure was fine and simple. I closed my account in August 2022.
Skip forward to now (November 2023) and I suddenly get an email (which was in my spam box, by the way, so I could've missed it entirely) saying they've forwarded my account debt to a debt collector. This debt is less than £10.
Between August 2022 and November 2023 I had recieved no contact from Homeshift about account debt and was not informed of account debt upon account closure. Had I been informed of the debt at any point during the FIFTEEN MONTHS between account closure and now, I would have paid immediately. I have had account debt on other services and was informed upon account closure of the money I still owed.
I have been trying to call them all day so I can get answers about this quickly, but there isn't even a phone queue, you just get told that there aren't agents available and to call back later. I have also emailed them, however I am still awaiting a response.
Although I am yet to see how this gets resolved, this is enough for me to absolutely never reccomend this company to anyone.
A JOKE!
I cannot believe you actually have to give a star. I am disgusted and traumatised by the service of homeshift. We moved our over 2 and a half years ago and only recently they have been harassing me and my partner consistently and threatening us with all sorts. As you can imagine this caused great stress and panic, yet there was no duty of care given towards me or my partner. We was paying over £200 a month for a 2 bed ( it was only really a 1 bed flat) multiple times we asked & begged them to come and help us read the meter as it was our first time living on our own & they refused and made us continue to pay 100s each month. I would not even reccomend this awful, shambolic service to ANYONE ever. And if you do commit to them prepare for harassment and threats!
Terrible company, terrible service avoid at all costs
Constantly harassed to pay extortionate bills for which we were not responsible. Random price hikes without warning. Terrible customer service, would not recommend this terrible company to anyone
Where do I start
Where do I start. Il keep it simple and short.
I was paying an energy company called Scottish power but apparently I was also with Colorado at the same time VIA homeshift. Living in a 2 bed apartment as a single parent my energy bill was well over £200 a month even on a hot summers holiday. Kirsty from homeshift contacted me and explained that energy suppliers are made aware of that properly is already covered by someone else (homeshift) we’re the second. Kirsty told me that I shouldn’t have been paying 2 and that the competing company were in the wrong. After giving both energy companies authorisation to understand where ‘THEIR’ negligence occurred, Kirsty came back telling me she is sorry but I also have to pay them also? I refused which lead to ajjb law harrasing me daily and then giving me a ccj! I proved all my payments and my rights which lead to Kirsty IGNORING my case on the matter! Overall I’m required to pay TWO energy bills for me and my 5 year old at the time a monthly bill of approximately £400 a month!
To clarify Kirsty made it clear energy companies have a system to not charge the same person twice with conflict of interest which she then did anyway! Even with proof!

Despite telling their Kirsty Stuart we have complained to the FCA about their behaviour, and requested they stop chasing for monies we do not owe until the FCA have adjudicated on the matter, they still continue to harass us.
