great option

hmsa online care has been a great option for me, since i am not always able to make physical appointments because I work on a different island than my physician practices on.

GI care

The physician was very efficient and gave great information. She actually was spot in and I required the exact care that she recommended.

Quick and convenient service

I had heat rush all over my body and it got worse during weekend. I couldn't stand the itchiness but realized my physician wouldn't be open until Monday. My husband reminded me I could use online doctor. It was easy and didn't have to wait too long. I sent some pictures of rushes on my body before speaking to a doctor. The doctor sent a prescription to my closest pharmacy which opens for 24 hours. I could sleep very well without bothering the itchiness. The service was really quick and convenient!!!

quick medical advice

It was great to access expert medical advice quickly. I would not have been able to see our PCP in a timely manner. The physician with online care referred me to an urgent care clinic. I had multiple problems that were diagnosed and addressed appropriately.

Poor App Function

AmWell's online medical access program continues to be as crappy as it was when I wrote about it in grad school 4 years ago.
It's neither user friendly nor well functioning.
You have to find it twice - once through explorer & a second time through scrolling down the long menu on the right side of the screen.
It takes forever to load & doesn't offer an option to bypass the health history & medication screens or that awful video welcome lady. Every time.
Some days the video won't load and you're rerouted to a phone call meeting that disconnects 4 times in an hour.
It's not very therapeutic to have a conversation cut off like that.
What a clunker!

1 Antihistamine pill, vs. 9 days of Steroids

I called the online physician because I had a large area of my legs inner and outer and arms, covered with hives. I was very satisfied with the attitude in the friendliness of the doctor I got, he recommended nine days of steroids as a prescription. My Son was listening and he suggested that we try and over-the-counter antihistamine first. The doctor agreed that it was worth a try since I had no trouble breathing or any other serious symptom. The 25 cent Generic Antihistamine, a single pill, cured the hives within an hour, it is over 10 days now and it has not come back.
I'm hoping more physicians try things that not as invasive, before prescribing heavier drugs, I'm sure a lot of it has to do with patients who insist on quick results even at the risk of their long-term health.

HMSA

I have had a positive experience with HMSA for 30 years. I am concerned about the rising insurance rates and hope that more preventative programs will be offered and costs covered to give members better options to work with their primary healthcare providers to achieve optimum health.

Very convenient and easy.

The last thing you want to do when you are sick is get up, get dressed and drive to town. I can talk to a Dr. from the comfort of my bed or couch!

You Get What You Pay For

I'm so glad I switched from Kaiser to HMSA. The quality of care and service is above anything I could have ever imagined. If you are thinking about the switch and are afraid of the costs - don't. You get what you pay for. Excellent care and service.
