avoid

I rented a car from auckland airport.

The car was delivered without oil. Initially Hitch just told me to ignore the warning light, but on reading the contract it is in black and white that the renter is responsible for any damage to lack of oil.

This car was a trap.

Hitch then confirmed by email and verbally they would reimburse the cost of the oil.

Once the car was returned, they refused point blank to honour their word.

I would strongly suggest finding someone else.

Wouldn't book again

Extremely poor service which is very disappointing as the Christchurch team were great. Our car was returned in a perfectly fine state yet the Auckland team charged a fee for ‘cleaning’ despite the fact that this was not the case. When contacted they were unable to actually clarify what the charge was actually for before panicking and stating ‘smoking in the car’ despite the fact neither of the passengers smoke. Eventually they decided to ignore our emails and calls which shows a real lack of service and professionalism.

The car itself was fairly old and battered (dents, scratches etc) however we were willing to look past this but then this pushed it. This was merely an attempt to extract more money from ourselves, perhaps because we took a different insurance instead.

I wouldn’t recommend Hitch to anyone based on this shady, money grabbing behaviour.

One of the easiest rentals no hassle.

I had just returned my rental car today 09/01/2019 I have had no issues. It is one of the best rental services I had ever use. I will definitely rent from them again. Thank you Hitch re talks for looking after me an the staff in Christchurch was very friendly.

Avoid at all costs

The whole experience was dreadful. They advertise as Queenstown airport but are quite some distance from there. We had to wait 15 mins for a shuttle and then when we got to the place it was a unit with a pile of crappy cars. We had a car that rattled and shook and had not been cleaned in some time. For $150 a day a complete rip off and I would not recommend them at all.

Satisfactory Experience

The GOOD thing was:
1) We got the car we hired
2) Reliable
3) Comfortable
4) Checked in customer service very friendly

The BAD thing was:
1) The car was dirty, we have to stop and clean the windows inside and out so we can see the beautiful NZL views.
2) The bus driver is not friendly, arrogant, racist, aggressive driver and swears I have 2 kids in the bus..

Other than that I was content. hired the car for 10 days

This car rental company sub leases it's …

This car rental company sub leases it's cars from other companies as told to us by their own employees. We booked a Mazda Demio or simlar, AT, AC, class of car. But we got an old banged up Nissan Tiida that did not suit any of our needs and the AT was useless since the car wouldn't go up any inclination at all. There were scratches, dents, and markings all over the car. The AC vents were shut off and then broken so it did not work, also had fuel tank problems and needed refueling every 140 kms, which as you can imagine in South Island was a royal pain. We had to stray from our itinerary so many times to find a gas station, just to ensure we had enough fuel. It stranded us a couple of times and Hitch was unreachable by call or just wouldn't reply back to mails. Also, they gave us our car 2 HOURS late on our arrival day with the excuse that it wasn't ready yet. Which kind of explains the whole subleasing and junky old car rentals. They promised us monetary compensation because by their own admission we should not have been given this car. But it's been weeks and we haven't heard a word from them despite repeated mails and calls. Since NZ roads are winding and sometimes almost slanting sideways, I strongly suggest you get yourself a better a car rental company and not get fooled like we were since it was our first time in NZ.
