I had a very disappointing experience with H&D Automotive when attempting to place an international order. During checkout, a “U.S. Tariff Offset (10%)” fee was added to my purchase. When I asked about it, they explained that this is a charge they incur for sending the order and that it is separate from any duties or taxes that my country’s customs will charge.
This is very concerning because the order was already being shipped with DHL, and the shipping cost was already charged separately. In my opinion, any logistics or export costs should already be covered within the DHL shipping fee. Adding an extra 10% “tariff offset” on top of shipping feels excessive and not transparent.
What makes this worse is that customers are still responsible for paying full import duties and taxes when the package arrives in their country. In other words, you pay shipping, then an extra 10% fee to the store, and then customs charges again on arrival.
International buyers should be very careful when ordering from this store, as these additional charges can significantly increase the final cost of the purchase.
My order total for the products was $426.11 USD. During checkout I was charged $93.63 USD for shipping, which already seemed high. However, that shipping amount included a $67.45 “U.S. Tariff Offset (10%)” fee that the company adds on top of normal shipping costs.
When I contacted them, they explained that this fee is a cost they incur when sending the order and that it is separate from any duties or taxes charged by the destination country. This is difficult to justify because the shipment was already being sent via DHL and the shipping fee was already being charged. In my opinion, any export or logistics costs should already be included in the DHL shipping price.
The biggest issue is that this fee does not replace customs costs. When the package arrived, DHL still charged an additional $196 USD in duties, taxes, and other import-related fees.
So in total:
$426.11 USD in products
$93.63 USD shipping (including the $67.45 tariff offset)
$196 USD in DHL duties and taxes
This means the extra charges were extremely high compared to the product value. International buyers should be very careful and fully understand these additional fees before ordering, as the final cost can increase dramatically.
