Great service

Great service, great communication and great products. I have ordered from Happy Kombucha a few times over the last couple of years and have always had good service, I mainly order milk kefir grains which have always performed well and made delicious kefir, this week I also added a Kefirko cheese maker and some broccoli seeds for sprouting. I will definitely be ordering from them again.

I never received the item / rude customer service

I never received the item. This was a courier issue which could easily be sorted by retailer.

According to DPD the parcel was delivered to a neighbour called FGHHI. There is no one here by that name. The only picture provided by DPD is of courier holding the parcel on the street outside my gate. I was home and no one knocked my door.

I spoke to Mrs Holborn who was unprofessional to the extreme. She insisted I take a picture of my front door. I did. She insisted i had a doorbell camera. I don't. Then she said, why not. They're cheap.

What business is that of hers anyway?

Then she wanted to have the names of my neighbours because she was going to write to them.

She said the investigation would take 48 hours. This was 3rd December. I never heard back from her. I followed up with an email about 2 weeks later reminding her of the Consumer Act 2015.

She didn't reply.

I will now take it up with Eastbourne CAB as well as request a charge back.

This was the rudest, most obnoxious customer service ever!

Superb company!

Superb company selling quality products. I have been buying from Happy Kombucha for a while now and am always impressed by the quality of their products, quick delivery and superb customer service. Happy to recommend them.

I am genuinely perplexed by the…

I am genuinely perplexed by the negative reviews for Happy Kombucha. Marcus and Michelle have been outstanding throughout my brewing journey — always friendly, knowledgeable, and quick to respond (even to my many WhatsApp questions!).

I had previously dealt with another fermentation company in the South whose starter kit turned out to be a waste of money and whose support was, frankly, disappointing. Finding Happy Kombucha felt like a breath of fresh air — they are truly passionate about what they do, and it shows. Unlike others who seem focused purely on profit, Marcus and Michelle clearly care about their customers and the craft.

Awful Customer Service

I bought Kefir from this company. I queried their delivery times as I’d always had deliveries from other companies in 24-48 hours and been told this was important. Postage from this particular company was more than I usually pay. The email said… it had been dispatched and may take up to a week!
I was met with a response that said… We are not Amazon/ McDonalds. The whole response was rude, patronising and condescending.
I was told the Kefir had been dispatched, only later to have my order cancelled because I pointed out my concerns. Clearly, it hadn’t been dispatched. Not happy on several fronts.

Dreadful product. Worse service

Bought sourdough starter. Tried desperately for a week to get it going. I have been making sourdough bread for 20years. I wanted to try the San fransisco starter. The starter dead. It was sent during the recent heatwave. Contacted them and I got a history lesson and was told how to make sourdough ( I am 60!). They are not interested. No refund just left with a starter fit for the trash

Very well packaged fragile item

I am very impressed how well the fermentation crock I purchased was packed. Very well protected.
I bought one from elsewhere and it arrived damaged, due to poor packaging.
Despite some delay in dispatching the item, the communication with the company was great and my email was answerred promptly and the item dispatched the same day.

Customer service is poor. Trader cannot deal with custom complaints in a professional manner.

Customer service is poor when they have to deal with delivery issues. I had purchases delivered with missing item. I emailed to report and did not receive follow up email. Called to follow up and I was challenged by the call handler implying I was lying and that they witness the item being packed. They wanted photograph evidence of the package to ensure that it was not tampered before delivery. Whilst referring me to check other retailers website in relation to how they all deal with missing items.

I left the call dissatisfied. I will not be shopping with happy kombucha again.

BEWARE! Money taken but never received order and company claiming there is nothing they can do

My delivery went to the wrong address. The Royal Mail proof of delivery photograph was of a house I didn’t recognise. Royal Mail says I have to go back to the sender but on calling the company, I was told that there was nothing they could do and I would have to take it up with Royal Mail direct (which if anyone has tried to do is virtually impossible)
I then tried a different chanel and contacted Happy Kombucha through social media and have now been told that they will initiate an investigation…
After reading the bad reviews and my own telephone conversation with them, a big part of me feels that I won’t have this resolved and that I’m being fobbed off by their chat bot.
Be aware that trying to have a problem resolved by either email (no response from them) or telephone is useless and still waiting to see if the social media bot actually does anything.. There are other really good companies selling the same with excellent customer support. I don’t like being so harsh but I wouldn’t recommend buying through this one, too much of a gamble

No one replies to emails

I bought a kombucha kit, mainly because the packaging promised easy support if anything went wrong. I ferment lots of things but I knew kombucha could be unpredictable and I figured it was worth the money to get clear instructions and a trustworthy scoby to start with, rather than asking a friend.

I encountered a few problems at the start and could not get a response from them at all. Lots of emails and eventually I got someone on the phone. That got me one reply by email but when I followed up, it was silence again.

Your mileage may vary, but to me it’s pointless buying from someone like this. The kombucha kit was a waste of my time, but the emails were even worse. Would not recommend at all.

According to our records we replied to every email you sent (i have a record of over 5 emails and that the conversation is still ongoing), with advice and help. We even offered to replace the scoby for you! So i am not sure why you would write such an innaccurate review for a small company.

We do state that it can take 3-5 working days for an email reply and as far as i can see all emails were replied to within this time frame.

There was a slight delay in replying when we were closed for Christmas as we were closed

Unfriendly staff and overpriced

Package was sent to wrong address. There is a glitch when filling out address, it can change automatically during checkout process. No refund given or rep on cement offered. Very expensive products as no such poor service. Shop somewhere else

Edit: this review was for my water kefir order. Kombucha Scoby order I placed later was also messed up but we spoke on the phone and resolved it. The refund I requested was for the water kefir which I did not receive.

Originally i thought that you had left this for the wrong company as you left this review the day you spoke to our CEO on the phone who agreed to send a replacement and some free goods to make up for a slight delay with Royal Mail and apologised for the problems Royal Mail had caused. If you were so unhappy why did you not mention this when you were talking to our staff. Instead you made no mention and asked for free stuff instead which we happily agreed to.

However as we have now had the chargeback claim in also i can now see that is is just simple fraud.

We have full tracking that shows your original order was put into the post on the 4th. It was delayed by Royal Mail but delivered on 14th Feb. You also recieved another delivery (which was to replace the first order that was delayed) on the 20th of Feb. This included the free items that you requested. We have proof of delivery for all the goods.

I'm sorry if you found our member of staff rude, she agreed with everything you said and agreed immediatley to replace the goods so i am not sure how she could have been rude. Again she does have a disablitly that affects her voice. So sorry if this was a problem.

Basically Package was not sent to the wrong address, there is no issue with the checkout. Your order was sadly delayed by Royal Mail and you then instead decided to commit mail fraud and chargeback fraud.

Incredibly Rude Staff

A few points:
* The woman I spoke to on the phone definitely did not have the problem of being barely able to speak, quite the opposite in fact. Nor did she sound at all croaky or horse.
* At no point did she talk at all about her voice, either to explain her medical condition, or apologise for it.
* She didn't call me back at all, neither did anyone else from the company.
* At no point did I 'abuse' this woman. The very suggestion is quite bizarre.

Due to the complete weirdness of the reply, I can only assume that Happy Kombucha must have gotten my review
muddled up with a phone call to another customer. Because for them to have made up such a story would be very, very strange.

I bought a pack of water kefir grains from Happy Kombucha. They were in the post a little longer than I would have liked, but not so bad.
Being careful to follow the enclosed instructions I made a brew. Unsuccessful. I tried again another 4 times following the same instructions, still nothing. So twice I used the slightly different method I have used in the past many times to successfully brew water kefir , still no luck, so I thought I would call the company for advice.
Almost immediately it was clear that the woman on the phone was determined to find a reason to blame me for the failed grains. She did make a couple of reasonable suggestions of what I could do differently, But mostly the things she was saying were quite bizarre, often contradictory and delivered in a very harsh and accusatory tone. And then swiftly the call deteriorated into the strangest and most unprofessional dealings I think I have ever had with any company !!!
I politely and calmly told the woman the call wasn't what I had been expecting and she then went a little mad, shouting down the phone at me. She accused me of saying she didn't have a clue what she was talking about, which at no point did I say or imply Then she shouted that she had wasted 45 minutes on the call trying to help me (at this point the call was actually 10 minutes & 40 seconds - I checked).
Obviously the call was going nowhere, so I calmly told the woman I was going to hang up now , she was still shouting when I said goodbye.
Afterwards I felt a little bad for the woman, I guessed for her to behave so badly she must be having a really bad day. Then I read some of the other reviews on here ....... it seems rudeness to customers is quite common. Following the pattern of the company's response to other negative reviews, I expect now it will be said that I was the rude one 😊
I didn't ask for or receive a refund for the non functioning grains , but perhaps that woman could keep my £25 and spend it on a meditation class, or something else to help her relax a little.

Update: No we havn't muddled our reply at all.
We do not get many customers who are so mean to someone who is clearly not well so they do tend to stick in our memories.
She had surgery in December and her voice is still croaky now 4 months later. You spoke to her only 4 weeks or so after surgery so it did not just magically heal itself.
If the lady you spoke to did not have a croaky voice then you called a different company as she is the only lady who answers the phone.

The lady in question has a medical condition/disability that affects the tone of her voice, the volume and how she speaks, she did apologise and explain this and that she had just had surgery on her voice/throat which is why she could barely speak and sounded croaky and hoarse when you complained. Her apology however was not good enough for you.

I'm sorry you find this ladys medical condition so egregious, i hope you never suffer from poor health. The lady in question tried to resolve your issue and called you back several times to try and help (as you kept hanging up on her) however you only wanted to discuss her voice/disability. She did ask you why you had called as every suggestion she made you rubbished (she is only human) but other than that, valiantly tried to help you while you continued to abuse her for her disability.

You are correct, you did not request or recieve a refund for the grains (as you only really wanted to complain about this lady disability) however the grains were not non-functioning. You stated to our staff that you had been brewing them at 18-20C which is far too low a temperature for water kefir grains.

Our staff member explained to you that your temperature was too low and that you simply needed to increase it however you did not want to listen. You then spent the rest of the call abusing this disabled member of staff due to her disability (as you disliked her tone and voice and the way she spoke to you)

perhaps you could be kinder to people with medical conditions and disabilities that are beyond thier control instead of shouting at them for it. How she speaks has no bearing on her knowledge and understanding of fermenting and the advice that she gives. we are an equal opportunity employer and fully support our disabled staff. It may sometimes be given in a whisper or it might feel like she is shouting (she is not she is just struggling to use her voice), her voice can be croaky and hoarse and can sometimes change during the course of the conversation and yes her tone can sometimes feel a little harsh but this is a disability and when you speak to this lady is is obvious from the start that there is some issue with her voice.

Lots of info and very helpful

The website gave so much information, I felt really well informed, I knew when and in what format I would receive my kefir grains, they were well packaged and came with 4 pages of inspections, notes, troubleshooting, really easy to understand and use. The grass activated really quickly and we're producing kefir within the first 48 hours and are going strong, so pleased with such a success!

The company failed to deliver and my…

The company failed to deliver and my daughter didn’t get her Christmas present. The goods were then sold out and they refused to give me a full refund - they deducted the delivery costs despite it clearly being their fault!!! Sadly I cannot recommend this company

The delivery company made three delivery attempts, on the 6th of December, the 7th of December and the 9th of December. There was no one at home for any of the delivery attempts.
It was sent via DPD who sent a 1 hour delivery timeslot to you to make the delivery easier but still on three occassions there was no one there and no delivery instructions given so it was returned to sender.
You were refunded in full for all the goods purchased however as the failed delivery was due to someone not being at the address on three seperate occassions we were unable to refund the delivery fee.
Please ensure that you are at the address to recieve the delivery.

Faultless experience!

Despite the varied reviews on here, I decided to give them a go, and I am glad I did!

I have signed up just to leave a review because I don’t think the amount of negatives are just and fair (based on my experience)

I orderd 2 x Kombucha socbys in the early hours of 2nd Jan.
Got a confirmation email straight away.
Got a shipment confirmation mid-day 3rd Jan.
Item arrived 4th Jan.

They were well packaged, look to be healthy and came with a comprehensive set of step by step printed instructions on how to begin brewing your kombucha.

My first Kombucha brewing is now already underway.

Can’t really fault them at all.
Yes they are a bit expensive, but I would rather pay a bit more to support a local small businesses than give Mr Bezos any more money than I already do!

I will be using them again to get started on some Kefir soon.

The varied reviews on this platform are largely because the people leaving the reviews are not being entirely truthfull or because they are trying to scam us or defraud us. we have 4.8 stars everywhere else.

Plus one of our customer service agents is disabled (as we are an equal opportunity employer) and has trouble with her voice and tone. Most customers are lovely and totally human about the issues she has, some however just decide she is rude and it goes from there. I find it sad how cruel people can be. We are also an a female run company and i hate to say it but Misogny is a huge issue even in 2025.

Great kefir grains

Arrived quickly after ordering, kefir grains worked perfectly and quickly made a reasonable kefir within a few days, looking forward to the kefir in a few weeks time once established in their new environment.

Brilliant water kefir grain …

I had bought water kefir grains from another company that after 5 feedings did not ferment. I had only used them as Happy Kombucha were on holiday. I wish I’d waited. I got my grains at the beginning of the week, it’s cold in my kitchen about 16c and to my delight I had fizzy kefir the very next day. I did not expect to be drinking it already and it’s brewed each time in 24 hours. So delighted with the quality.

Five-star service from happy kombucha

I cannot even begin to describe how very wonderful Happy Kombucha are, and Michelle especially, is an absolute star. My experience showed that Happy Kombucha most want to ensure the kombucha community is happy, healthy and brewing! Let me explain. I bought a scoby from Happy Kombucha and brewed once with it. My kombucha was fine and as I was going away, I parked my scoby in a hotel as usual. I'm an experienced brewer and when I took the scoby hotel out again, after a few weeks, I noticed something on it that may or may not have been mould. There were no other indications of anything wrong and so I wrote to Happy Kombucha asking if they could help and if they would consider replacing my very new scoby. I never really thought they would – after all, it wasn't their fault and the scoby had worked fine for one go – but imagine my delight when Michelle wrote back very cordially. She tried to diagnose the issue and said that while it may not be mould, best to be on the safe side and she was despatching another scoby pronto. She was as good as her word and I've been brewing with great success ever since. Thanks Michelle. Thanks Happy Kombucha. Thanks for being a listening enterprise. More power to you.

Very good quality, quick delivery

Quick delivery, was sceptical when I got my milk kefir grains but I followed the instructions and I’m very happy with the purchase. In 10 days they’ve grown from 5g to 20g and look so healthy! Note: it’s summer time so it’s probably quicker fermentation.
