Don’t bother!!

I bought a houseplant as a gift for a friend and what turned up for almost £50 was embarrassingly poor. The plant pot didn’t fit in the decorative planter properly and it didn’t look like the image on the website. My friend was a bit confused by it and it was such a let down. I wasn’t going to get my friend to return it as that’s incredibly annoying. The customer service was pretty poor to be honest and I truly wish I hadn’t bothered! Waste of money.

Such beautiful plants

Such beautiful plants, even fresh out the packaging. Usually care tip cards are useless but if I was a beginner and followed the tips on THESE cards, my plants would have been thriving from the start. A lot of the time, delivery care instructions like the 'this way up' arrows are ignored and still, the plants are intact. I've ordered about 3 plants from this website and can't wait to get some more cuties on my next payday *winkwink.* The package always comes earlier than expected, it's like Christmas day every time. 10/10 Would recommend. Lots of love ♥

Pachira tree as a gift... Packaged SO well. Thank you!

We had a Pachira tree as a gift from Happy House Plants, which arrived today. It is absolutely beautiful. I was so impressed with how well it was packaged so that it would not get damaged in transit. I highly recommend this company and will definitely use them myself in the future. Thank you!

New to plants

I'm not really into plants or stuff, yet my girlfriend is trying to modernise my flat. I spoke to Mark on the phone before I purchased, he gave me excellent advice before I purchased, he talked me through how it would be delivered and how to take care of it. He said I could call anytime if I had any questions or concerns.

Brilliant company, brilliant service, I would definitely use them again 5*

The most UNHAPPY Houseplants I've seen

Despite clearly having a great marketing department (that runs an amazing website full of healthy, seemingly well-looked after plants and sends out a very useful newsletter), the quality of the product being marketed - namely the plants - was deeply disappointing. It was so upsetting to see how neglected both of the plants I ordered had been. The small jasmine plant was absolutely parched - 50% of it had dried to a crisp and it took me a good 15 minutes to remove all of the dried leaves, branches, dead flowers and buds in order to let it breathe again. After two good soaks, I hope it will rebound but I'm not sure. The Strelitza Nicolai - White bird of Paradise - plant that I bought was in equally terrible condition. The top most leaf had been folded down on itself by the packing department, there were two large splits in the leaves and one side of a leaf was completely crinkled up and brown. It was also totally parched. Do they actually water the plants in the warehouse?? Or just those that are photographed for the website? I took photos of each problem area and sent it back to the address that sends out the newsletter and never received a response despite sending it twice more. The only response I got was a refund for the wicker basket type pot I ordered which was meant to be water proof and immediately leaked all over my floor. This should never have been voted the Guardian's best place to buy online - it might be easy but the plants are the least 'happy' I have ever seen, the customer service is non-existent and the pot wasn't sold as described. I will never buy from here again and would recommend no-one else does either. Unless you want the equivalent experience of rescuing an abandoned pet and taking on a poorly neglected plant in order to love it back to life. Update: following this review, the company got in touch and were very apologetic. They have since explained to me in a kind and attentive way why the plants may have arrived in such a dry condition and are going to review and improve their packing processes. They also (unprompted) refunded the jasmine plant (which was unexpected and unnecessary but also very thoughtful). Hopefully my experience was a one-off.

Hi Lavinia, I am sorry you didnt hear back from our emails. Our old addtress (sales@happyhouseplants.co.uk) suddenly stopped working, we were getting blocked by everyones email address so we had to change to support@happyhouseplants.co.uk our email trail must have got lost when we changed. This has been really frustrating as we are plant people and not the best with technology, we are a small family business with no IT department. I remember replying to you and refundng the basket and i will always refund any plants i think need to be but there must have been something I emailed you about and we were in the middle of sorting this out. Please send your last email to support@happyhouseplants.co.uk and we will get this fixed. I am sorry for the inconveneinece

Valued continual advice

I have already left a previous review on the companies very high standards.
I just wanted to add as my plant collection continues to grow extensively there are times when I need support and guidance on how to proceed. I am never disappointed and my questions are answered in full. This is so reassuring as purchasing a beautiful plant carefully packaged is a delight but to receive continual backup support as the plant develops is priceless, I am purchasing plants I have never seen before!
Thank You!!

Order cancelled with no explanation

I placed my order on 3 April and it was cancelled on 13 April without explanation. I received an automated email saying my order had been cancelled at *my* request, which was not the case. I can only assume the plant wasn't in stock. I understand stocking issues happen and it wouldn't be a big deal, but when a company can't even be bothered to send a cursory email by way of explanation it reflects very poorly on their customer service.

Hi Sam, We’re really sorry for how this has come across. We did write to you on Monday to explain that we had to reject the Fern Leaf Cactus due to quality issues — we simply weren’t happy sending it out. We issued a full refund at that time and also offered a 15% discount on your next order.
We can see your spam guard is blocking our emails, and we completely understand how frustrating this must feel, we would feel the same. If you’re happy to order again, we’ll make sure everything is handled properly for you and that your discount is applied.
Thanks,
Emily

Happy Customer

The company clearly puts a lot of care into packaging. The boxes are very large, almost furniture-sized, so you will need plenty of space in the recycling bin, but this does seem to help keep everything well protected during transit. In my case, all items arrived securely packed and undamaged, which was great.

The plants themselves arrived looking healthy overall, with only a small amount of leaf drop, which is understandable after several days in lorries. After a bit of time to settle in their new environment, they’ve continued to look good and appear to be adjusting well.

The ceramics are beautiful and feel like a real step up from standard plant pots. They are on the expensive side, but the quality reflects that, and they feel like items that should last a long time with normal care.

There was a minor initial concern that one item was missing, but it turned out to have been split across two DPD deliveries, with the second arriving the following day. Emily responded promptly to my enquiry within one working day, which is a reassuring sign.

Overall, this felt like a reliable experience. While live plants will always carry some risk due to transit conditions, everything arrived in good shape and has settled well so far. Based on this order, I’d be happy to use the company again.

Very pleased with my experience and plants!

I had some interactions with customer service (due to a glitch with my online payment) and the team were super professional and efficient and completely resolved the issue for me.
I bought a mystery plant box as couldn't decide which plants to get to add to my collection and received the package well before expected.
The plants were lovely - in great condition and well worth the price of the surprise box. I felt I really got quality (not just stock offloading of things that don't sell).
Overall, very pleased with the whole experience and would shop here again.

Unfortunately will not order again!

Unfortunately will not order again!
Spend almost £200 on an order, ordered a good few different plants. Arrived within 2 weeks ish, can't complain about delivery, there was a bit of damage on the bigger plants ordered, but I expected that as it was travelling across 2 countries before it arrived to me.

Chopped off severe damages and let the plants settle for a few weeks.

Some plants thrived with lots of new growth, others started looking more sad and limp and spotty as time went on.
I emailed them within the 30 days to ask for advice, not bothered about a refund I just wanted my plants to thrive. I'm not an amateur plant collector so it couldn't have been a user issue as there was plants thriving and some not.
No reply.

Before possibly losing my pin stripe calathea I decided to Re pot into new soil as I noticed the same soil with a few plants stayed wet for a good week, so it will have started rotting inside. Also mold started developing on the top, I quickly re potted into more trusting soil.

When I repot I saw the terrible soil, and rotting roots already, thought, what's the worst that could happen as it was going to die anyway in the wet soil. Did the same change on all the similar soil plants to prevent them rotting, and super glad I did as I believe 3-4 plants in my order would have gone within another month.
Hopefully I caught the issue in time and my plants can recover.
Although, one cactus is half dead.. and my maranta had no roots during Re pot so best of luck to them!
Silver pothos each had 2-3 roots barely holding them into the soil when received, and started root rotting.

It's been over a month I emailed, still no acknowledgement but I certainly will avoid this company in the future.

Check your soil!
Un happy Houseplants! :(

From what you’ve described, the plants were repotted soon after arrival. Young plants need time to settle, and early repotting can stress the roots. Based on years of experience shipping plants, we strongly advise against this, as they need time to adapt to a new home.

We haven’t been able to find any emails or calls, but we are one of the few companies you can still call and speak to a real person. No bots or forms to fill out, so please do give us a call as we’re always happy to help.

Really happy with my order- amazing service!

Really happy with my order! The plants arrived quickly and were packaged really well, so everything came in perfect condition. They all looked super healthy!

I loved the personal advice they gave me to help me choose the perfect plants for the rather dark area in my house that I wanted to brighten up.

You can tell they take good care of the plants before sending them out. They’ve settled into our home nicely and are already looking great.

Overall a really smooth experience from ordering to delivery. I’d definitely order from Happy Houseplants again and would recommend it to anyone looking for good quality indoor plants in the UK.” 🌿😊

Refund eventually issued, but extremely poor communication

*Edit 06/03/26 - After posting this review, the company contacted me directly to apologise and kindly sent a replacement plant along with a complimentary pot. I appreciated the effort to resolve the issue. Unfortunately the replacement arrived in the same condition as the first - tipped on its side in the box with soil spilled out of the nursery pot. This suggests there may be an issue with the packaging method for shipping plants. While I appreciate the attempt to make things right, I hope the company reviews their packaging to prevent this happening to other customers.

I ordered a plant which arrived on its side and partially out of its nursery pot. I reported this issue within 24 hours and attached photos.

I initially received no response, so I sent a follow-up email, which was ignored. I then contacted them via their online form; they replied stating they had already emailed me and asked me to check my spam folder. I had thoroughly checked my spam and junk folders and had not received any previous emails. They still did not acknowledge the issue with the plant.

After sending a further email the following week, I received a refund the next day, but without any explanation or apology.

While the refund was eventually issued, having to chase them multiple times and the lack of acknowledgement made this unnecessarily frustrating. My initial email was simply asking for advice on how to deal with the poor condition of the plant.

I will not be shopping with this company again due to their disappointing lack of customer care.

Dear Katherine, I am sorry you didnt get our replies. I just left you a voice mail to explain we sent replies to all of your messages but one email address didnt like the other and blocked them. We are a small family business and really wouldn't like our customers to be left unhappy. I am sure your Oxalis has perked up now as they always need a little time out of the box for their leaves to unfurl but we will send you another one tomorrow and sincerely apologise for the inconvenience. Best Wishes Emily
