We can’t recommend Hames & Sons highly enough.

Ross was punctual, professional, and clearly knew exactly what he was doing. We’d previously had another locksmith out who charged £50 and wasn’t able to resolve the issue, which was frustrating and left us no further forward.

Ross quickly identified that there was a fault with the gearbox and also explained that our existing setup was unusual for a composite door, as it had a mortice-style lock where a standard cylinder system should be. He talked us through everything clearly and recommended converting it to a proper uPVC/composite door gearing system with a new handle and cylinder.

The work was carried out efficiently and to a high standard, and the door now operates exactly as it should — smooth, straightforward, and reliable.

Really honest, knowledgeable, and a pleasure to deal with. If you need a locksmith who actually understands door mechanisms and fixes the problem properly, Ross is your guy.

We had a broken front door lock and a swollen wooden door which was almost impossible to open. An initial phone call was dealt with very efficiently and Ross visited the next morning.
The lock was replaced and now functions as it should. The side of the door was expertly sanded down and now opens smoothly. We cannot recommend Ross highly enough: we had an excellent service, delivered with a smile!

The Yale on my back door had completely broken and I couldn't remove it myself. I called Hames and had an appointment within 2 hours. Ross replaced the lock for me and has done an excellent job. Neat work, very polite and friendly. I would definitely recommend.

Absolutely brilliant. Called on Friday for non urgent job and Ross was here bright and early Monday morning. Completed work and went above to check all was good. Asked for quote for back door too and as quote was good and he had relevant equipment needed all was sorted within a couple of hours. Excellent value, lovely human and very knowledgeable. Arrived on time, found the cause of our jammed door lock, explained the cost, a polite and a nice guy, no problems, yes I would use them again.

Prompt and efficient work, with great service quality. The locks on the security shed and front door had seized and could no longer be opened. Due to the nature of the security lock on the shed, the locksmith feared he would only be able to destructively open it. However miracles were performed and the lock was removed with no structural damage to the door or handle. On top of that he freed up the mechanism of a UPVC front door that hadn't been used in about 15 years and diagnosed issues with our rear door. Both were fully resolved and the rear door was left feeling like new.
