Masters of bait and switch

This place pulled the bait and switch on my S/O and I. My S/O Nicholas and I came here so he could finance a vehicle. It was a 2012 Nissan Sentra with 140K miles listed for $3K.We were wary about the price, why is it so cheap? Surely something was wrong with it. Called the dealership to ask if the vehicle had been in any accidents or had any issues. We were told no accidents/no issues. I asked why the car is so cheap listed for $3K, we were told it was because it's a wholesale vehicle. At this point we scheduled to go &look at the vehicle. We get to the dealership & sat down with a salesperson Anna Hnatii & her assistant salesperson (I can't remember her name she was a young woman). We want to look at the vehicle and test drive it, right away Nick is asked if he is financing. He is, so we begin to talk about numbers before looking at the vehicle. Multiple times we were asking why the car was only $3K to which we received joking reply's from Anna like "oh you want to pay more for the car?" We looked over the carfax, there were no accidents and we were guaranteed there is nothing wrong with it. We realize the timing belt was never replaced on the car when it was due so it would need it replaced right away which was brought up to Anna. Anna told us that "the vehicles are inspected & tested it is fine you won't have to replace it" which I know she is just trying to sell the car but that is blatantly not true. The timing belt would need to be changed right away &Nick was fine with getting it done after purchasing the vehicle. We figured that is likely why the car is so cheap and hasn't sold. Nick goes ahead with getting his credit checked to see if he can get financing. Multiple times we went over the numbers with Anna. Nick was going to be putting $1000 down on the car and would finance $2000. Anna said "well it will be a little more than $2000 with the taxes and fees" so we said "right the taxes so it should be around $2400 that Nick is financing right?" Which we were literally told yes somewhere around $2400 financing by Anna. Nick gets approved to finance after a couple of corrections from typos on the paperwork. We finally get to look and the car and test drive it. Car seems to be in good condition, nothing to complain about considering the price is only $3000. We finish test driving, come back to go over the terms and numbers. Anna sets the paper down that says $300 per month car payment for 30 months. What, that's $9000. We're thinking something is wrong, we ask what interest rate he is getting. 29% fixed rate. Well that still does not add up. At this point, I'm looking at the paper and realize it says Nick will be financing $5995. I bring this to Anna's attention thinking there was a mistake. Nope, no mistake made. The car is actually $7000. I explain that the car is listed for $3000, and we confirmed this with Anna multiple times. Apparently they like to charge $4000 in fees here at Gurnee Hyundai. $2500 for some clear coat on the car (which this car was scratched and beat up, it honestly needed a paint job). A $995 dealership fee, which when we asked about what that was for Anna replied "it's a fee" for what? "the dealership" Are you kidding me? This place is a joke. Then obviously there were taxes and government fees listed as well for somewhere around $400 which we were told from the beginning those were going to be the only fees charged. The taxes and government fees are justified that's a given but $3495 in dealership fees? What is going on here? Anna goes back to speak with her supervisor about the fees, comes back with the price changed to $6995 financing. They added an additional $1000 in fees because Nick was required to purchase a "warranty" for the vehicle because he had no credit. That one literally made no sense at all. We went over the price and how much was to be financed multiple times. If they were honest from the beginning we would have went on our way. Complete disrespect to us wasting 2.5 hours of our time here. They will lie to you up and down to make a sale hoping you will just sign the paper.

STAY AWAY FROM THIS DEALERSHIP

MOST OF THE GOOD REVIEWS FAKE-- This dealership will "give" you free mats for your vehicle when you show them proof you gave them a 5 star reviews on 2 different websites---- so they paid for all these "great 5 star reviews".

This dealership is the King of Bait and Switch!!!!!
DO NOT GO HERE— if you don't believe me, keep reading all the bad reviews. Or Go to their own website and read the bad reviews there.

BEWARE OF THIS DEALERSHIP!!! They Post their cars online for one price --- lets say $20k, but what they don't say is that they have added “UPGRADES” to the car-- that you MUST BUY - that are NOT included in that listed price. That cost of the “UPGRADE” is anywhere from $4,000 to $6,000. This is according to my experience and the other reviews I read ON THEIR OWN WEBSITE! To me that is "Bait and Switch". They list a car online for $20k really BIG, then they have TINY TINY small print at the bottom of the page that says you must pay for the Tax, Title and Upgrades. THIS UNSCRUPULOUS sales tactic changes a $20k car you came to look at into a $24k car before you ever step a foot on the lot…. That is “Bait and Switch”. They are counting on the fact that you never make it to the bottom of the page.

Then they play all the new and old sale tactics to get you to buy.
1) Don’t sit in a chair and give them all your info for a 1/2 an hour before you even see the car. They are getting you to feel like you have time invested in this car. 2) NEVER EVER tell a car dealership what you can afford to pay per month. They will use this info to get you into a car paying more than you wanted to pay for the car. 3) They negotiate and ask you to sign on multiple hand written lines, every time you sign one of these “fake acceptances” they are breaking you down psychologically to sign that last line more easily. 4) They play the waiting game… the longer than get you to sit in the chair the more you feel like you have invested in the process and in the car. They make it painful so you don’t want to go out and do this all over again. 5) They wash the car “just for you” — to make it all pretty and clean— OR do they do that to hide the inconsistencies in the paint, the dings and the scratches with all the water droplets? 6) They tell you you can get “FREE” floor mats for two 5 star reviews- THEY ARE BUYING GOOD REVIEWS

If you don’t understand how they got to their price - and you think you are getting ripped off somewhere but can’t find it in the numbers and your salesman can’t help you figure it out - yes you are getting ripped off — if your gut tells you something is wrong, it is. — GET UP AND WALK NOW!! We didn’t figure out the shady numbers till the next day because we trusted our salesman. NEVER TRUST YOUR SALESMAN HERE!!!!!

Yes, we bought the car. Do we regret it? Yes, whole heartedly. These guys are the guys who give “car salesmen” a bad name. DO NOT BUY HERE at Gurnee Hyundai - a ROHRMAN AUTOMOTIVE GROUP dealership.

KEEP READING ALL THE BAD REVIEWS, don’t just take my word for it—— you will notice a pattern shady sales practices.

They don’t have a place to leave reviews on their website— they just cherry pick the best ones on Facebook and put them on their website. Here is where you can find a bunch of unhappy shoppers or buyers. It is their Facebook page- on the day I visited 19 out of the first 20 reviews were VERY NEGATIVE.
