Scam alert

Rented a car from GOLDcar through VIPcars.com in London. When we arrived in Lanzarote to pick it up they tried to charge 196 euros for 5 days insurance - despite me already having taken out insurance with VIPcars.

When I refused to pay they told me I could not have a car since my credit card had initials on it and not my full names. Apparently this was "against the law." It worked absolutely everywhere else in Lanzarote!

A total and utter scam do not use them.

Gold Car Nightmare at Alicante Airport

The only way this company can be improved is if it is permanently closed down We arrived at their offices at Alicante at 15 minutes after midnight and had been told we would have to pay an extra forty euros for them to stay open for us. At this time there were approximately twenty other people waiting some who had been waiting for over two hours but everybody was being charged the forty euros It soon became apparent that the delay was due to the limited staff that were available were spending a lot of time insisting that people take out additional insurance premiums and upgrade their car choice and it was very obvious they were encouraged by their company to do this. Due to this delay we eventually got our car at two thirty in the morning. When we returned the car the person checking it in said everything was fine and confirmed the fuel tank was full and we would receive our fuel deposit back within a couple of days it had now been two weeks and despite many unanswered e mail requests we have still not received the fuel deposit back. In the meantime we have received a copy of the handover document stating that there was slight damage to a wheel rim that I thought would be covered by the excess insurance they sold us on the night we arrived but they have still not returned the fuel deposit. I would never use this company again and would recommend anybody looking for car hire at Alicante steer well clear of Goldcar

Not even worth 1 star it should be…

Not even worth 1 star it should be minus 10. DO NOT use this company they are scamming robbing and disgusting, their staff are trained to swindle you to pay money unexpectedly a nd not agreed when vulnerable and at the airport requiring a car or they refuse to give you a car ,you are forced to pay and no refunds are given when you complain after. They then reply on site like this to save face and ask you to contact customer services that also refuse to refund money that you should never have had to pay in the first place but pretend that they care when responding to reviews like this. They are a disgrace and should be shut down. They need investigating as breaking the law.

Goldcrooks Car Rental Malaga

Goldcrooks Car Rental Malaga. Rented a car through DoYouSpain and took out Premium Insurance. At the collection counter I was told I had been scammed by DoYouSpain and the insurance was invalid and never to deal with them as they illegally sell non existent insurance. Really aggressive sales person said unless I paid for insurance I could not have the car. They know you are starting your holiday so are prime target to get ripped off. This company must be trading illegally.

No refund even in bereavement !

This company and the contracted co they use in Spain Doyouspain are the pits- the most unsympathetic cruel organisations in the car hire industry and are what give it such bad press. My sister in law suddenly passed away and I was treating myself and my brother to a much needed tranquil time away to mourn. In my grief, I mistakenly booked the car for 10 am 31 July instead of 10am Thurs 1 Aug. This perhaps due to the fact I leave Uk on 31 and arrive early hours 1st Aug. They said their conditions are collect the car within. 6 hours or lose the entire cost of the booking- even though they would actually be getting a full 24 hours money out of me for providing no service !!! I will lose £120 and have to book a car with another company. I just wish they would experience bereavement of a close relative and be subjected to such inhumane, appalling behaviour. Please avoid both companies!!!

The worst car company

The worst car company. Do not be fooled by the cheap prices compared to others, pay more for peace of mind. The car collected had the most scratches I have seen on a rental ever. The english from them is not great so hard to communicate. They use the same tactics - they try and pressure sell insurance and scratch insurance. When you return the car (out of hours especially) they will come back and say there is a scratch. Workers do not know how to do their job (person taking care of my car was new and was being instructed by other employee). They have now have taken extra money out of my account even though I refused and explained to see all initial photos. The scratch that was claimed was exactly one I asked the staff to take photo of and record but they never did. Do not be fooled by these people - they will do everything to make money. Take photos and vídeos and keep them for a long time, unfortunately my photos were deleted.

SCAM company

Rented a car through Goldcars (Allicante, Spain). Ordered the car online as a "Easter deal 40 % discount" for 100 Euro. When we had to pick up the car, new expenses kept coming: Child seat: 80 euro per seat, A sudden expensive "Mandatory" insurance (eventhough we already have insurance), Taxes etc. IT kept coming with new charges. This was running up in 600 euros (!!!). So the car ended up costing 700 euro. Everyone else in the line had the same issue including our travel partners. We will never rent a car through Goldcars again.

Disgraceful company

I selected a car that they advertised as being able to take 3 suitcases. However, when I went to collect the car, I was given a much smaller car that would not fit 3 suitcases in. I explained the situation to the man at the desk and he was very dismissive, simply repeating that the car was "similar" and that it would depend on the size of the suitcases. I pointed out that this was nonsense as the cases were standard size (they would not have been accepted by the airline if they were not). He said that there was nothing he could do but I could pay extra to upgrade to a bigger car if I wanted to. I asked why should I have to pay more when I already paid extra to get a car that would fit 3 suitcases and he just repeated the previous statements about the car being similar, the cases varying in size and that I could pay for a bigger car. There is no way I was going to give this unscrupulous company any more money, so we ended up having to make the 1 hour journey to our hotel with luggage on laps.

This put a real dampener on the start of our holiday and wasted over an hour whilst I tried to get it resolved, but unfortunately their staff had absolutely no interest in trying to help at all.

I have since contacted them to give them the oportunity to address my concerns, but they have not even bothered to respond. They clearly do not care, so I would urge any potential cusotmer to believe the reviews - they are an awful company that are not deserving of your custom.

The worst car rental I have ever use

The worst car rental I have ever use. We book and paid a car to be picked up at marseille airport. The lady at the desk refuse to give us the car. No way to have her give it to us. We contact the customer care number but they told us to solve the problem with the lady at the desk. So we went to another company to have a car, and we contact again the customer care number to have our money back. No way to be refund. Goldcars are legalized thief. Police can do nothing because it seem to be a commercial dispute, neither is possible to stop the payment made with the credit car. Be very careful!

Just returned from a holiday in…

Just returned from a holiday in Lanzarote and vow never to use this company again.
Pictures taken by representative at time of car handover miraculously disappear when handing car back and they try to point out damage to the car.
Whilst the representative indicates acceptance of the explanation you then receive an email later advising of a fee being charged for ‘bodywork damage’.
Clearly a professional scam.
Complaints raised direct and through booking company so will wait to see if refund is received.

Worst experience ever!
My flight was delayed because of a rain storm so I could not show up on time to pick up my car. Despite their Terms & Conditions CLEARLY state that, in case of force majeure (like a rain storm that prevents a flight from departing on time!!), Goldcar will refund the full amount I paid, they claim that it was my fault as I didn't show up on time. So they kept my money and NEVER DELIVERED the service I fully paid for. I'd never ever recommend Goldcar to anyone. They're a fraud as they also don't comply to their own Terms & Conditions

I do not think it is usefull to write more about goldcar, it is just amazing that this company, based on criminal business tekniques can still operate. just read all comments from every country.
myself, gligt delayed, goldcr contacted and informed, nevertheless "sorry your contract has expired" 400 euros paysd in advance on the GOLDCAR-SITE!!!
so much work to run to lawers, but when you think it s EUROPCAR that owns goldcar, maybe they should be husseld for theese millions in stolen deposits, and fraudulent reports. they have been fined 1 or 2 millions in itly recently, but what do they care, what i wonder who are these people working there? accomplices, also criminals, "just doing a job"??? amazing

Terrible Experience

I was told by the booking agency that I would need to leave an €1100.00 deposit, but when I arrived I was told that I would need to leave a €2000.00 deposit or pay them €193.00 full waiver insurance. As I only had €1500.00 available on the credit card I was carrying, I had no choice but to pay the full waiver.

When I returned the car with a full tank of fuel, I was told my fuel deposit would be returned that evening. Around 72 hours later, my fuel deposit still hasn't been returned.

I will never use this company again and will be asking my cc company to raise a dispute over all monies paid to them.

Not a pleasant experience. Aggressive behaviour very upsetting

Went to collect a car at Alicante Airport this morning. Was immediately asked to take out full insurance. I explained that I had taken excess insurance with DoYou Spain. The guy at Goldcar insisted that his company had no relationship with DoYouSpain. He said that if I didn't buy the insurance from him, I would be driving without insurance. Even though I was willing to allow the excess deposit to be charged to my card he still insisted I wouldn't be insured for any damage to the car and reiterated that I would be driving without insurance. His manner was extremely aggressive. I felt harassed. In the end I opted not to take the car at all as I was very upset at being treated in this manner . DoYouSpain now tell me that I am not entitled to an insurance refund as the insurance is in place even though I didn't take the car. Not a pleasant experience. Won't be using Goldcar ever again.
