This service is beyond bad. DO NOT USE THEM. The challenges I have gone through to collect a small amount of money is unimaginable. Twice now I have asked my complaint to be escalated and twice I have heard nothing. I have wasted approximately 12 hours of contact over 4 days and I'm still not any closer to having my money.
Now I have sent a download of a bank statement with account number, name and address, and this is not enough to verify the account.
It is NEVER enough for these clowns. Stay away is my advice.

I have been in business over 30 years with unblemished record and am an elected representative yet this clown company can’t verify and suspends perfectly legitimate businesses like me . They apologised and verified me now they’ve closed my account again no doubt as it’s run by computers and not humans ! They are absolutely awful and I cannot imagine them continuing as their reviews are quite rightfully awful . My advice is avoid at all costs . If any fool from this cowboy company is reading this they can look at my latest support ticket 4083386.I will not use them again if they paid me . I set up my clients now have to tell them all it’s cancelled . In my view your money is not safe in these incompetents hands . I will not let my good reputation be tarnished by this useless company so have ceased dealing with them and recommend others follow suit.

Refund issue is hassle. We have to have funds but funds don't last long on gocardless as they're transferred over. Why not just deduct the refunded amount from the upcoming payments like other providers do?
I can't refund and I'm gonna have to do a bank transfer to the customer losing transaction fees to gocardless for nothing.
Other than that, very good experience with gocardless.

DISGUSTED. Treatment appalling. No Managers, they REFUSE to put you through to a manager, I quote "The Managers do not have phones" Can you believe it. They wont email a manager, they wont put you through. They just keep you with customer service goons who cannot actually solve complicated problems, therefore, if you have a problem that cant be solved, it remains unsolved!! I AM GOING ELSEWHERE. They are a despicable company now, how they treat their clients now they have got big.
I UPDATE my complaint AFTER the ridiculous answer below. So, GoCardless, are UNSURE of my complaint. What a bunch of idiots! It is extremely clear I am saying, there is NO HELP from ANY MANAGERS because they refuse to put you through to higher help. And below they have proved it again, the email address help@GoCardless puts you through to the basic and pretty useless customer service team that aren't even based in the UK anymore.

I signed up to GoCardless in November 2025 and the whole process was an exercise in frustration. Before I could even use the account, they froze everything and sent me a long list of extra demands — including essays about my business, website links, social profiles and projected payment values.
Fine. I provided what they wanted.
Their response? A copy-and-paste message saying they “cannot continue processing payments” and were closing the account. No explanation, no clarity, nothing specific — just the usual “we are a regulated institution” excuse to avoid telling you anything meaningful.
So after jumping through all their hoops, they shut the door anyway.
I’ve since opened an account with another provider who set me up immediately with no drama. In comparison, GoCardless felt slow, obstructive, and overly intrusive for no benefit whatsoever.
If you value your time, avoid this route — the process goes nowhere, and they don’t even bother to explain their own decision. It’s the most unproductive onboarding experience I’ve had with any payment company.

Ive had £2340 TAKEN WITHOUT any authorisation, any acknowledgement! The money is MISSING !! For 16 days the money is no where. They've lied and lord to me repeatedly over the last 16cdats telling me it's with a bank. They will not show my any proof
Ive asked to talk to a manager, they saud they would, and put me through to just a customer service person. Another lie!
My money is missing, they will not help me, they do not want to call you, they just send lies and fob you off in an email.
Its just a disgusting way to contact business. I am so stressed I do not know what to do
I will be contacting action fraud about this money which, as far ad I see, is not stolen. I will be contacting every body that can assist in this matter and get this out of control company to give me my money back.

We are a small UK company and after successful application we got the go-ahead for our GoCardless account some 2 months ago.
Multiple emails welcomed us on board after having past the application stage, we started collecting money from our clients.
Today with no notice GoCardless froze/cancelled our account. They sent 1 email saying cancelled, blocked our logins to access our money and they said that they are going to refund all our clients all the money collected to date!
This is gobsmacking!!
The reason is they have said as part of their FCA requirements that they ongoing have to review random accounts!!. They will not provide reasons they clearly state, why they suddenly closed the account. GoCardless Ltd (UK based) are know since 2024 now are required under the FCA new guidelines that they must provide 90-Day notice if they intend to close any businesses account.
They must also place in writing clear reasons why they intend in 90 days to close the account, GoCardless gave zero days (ZERO), NO Notice, they are in breach of the FCA new regulations that came into force 2024. To this, we are at a financial loss.
SOLUTION We are going to place GoCardless Ltd a company based in the UK into the small claims court. We are issuing a 14 day legal notice to them tomorrow to cover any financial loss as they state in writing that they will refund our clients back the money and our clients have to chase their bank to get the money back !!!all to our financial loss, trouble and stress!
If GoCardless do not pay our financial damages loss within 14 days, We will proceed with small claims online for all financial damages that they have caused.
Furthermore we will notify the FCA that GoCardless are breaching the FCA regulations that they have to abide by.
A search at Companies House show GoCardless Ltd (07495895) have a stream of directors resignations, and they accounts made up at 30 June 2024 show continued yearly HUGE operating losses 2024 alone being £32milion and £75milion 2023.
Disgraceful, illegal and we hope the FCA take action against the directors of GoCardless Ltd.

Great platform to use for both subscribers and the end user/vendor. Very clear reports, which are kept up to date and enable us to present to trustees with ease.
Only downside is that there is no direct option to select Gift Aid, without using another third party platform which is difficult to use, which means as a charity we are losing out on valuable funds.

Avoid at all costs.
This company suggested it had 'completed a review' and closed the account.
It failed (chose) to give no reasons.
My business is authorised and regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority, so our controls satisfy all financial, legal and regulatory requirements.
It is therefore most concerning how GoCardless operates, and what it does with the bank details entered by consumers.
We will now have to write to our customers to warn them of this.
We have provided GoCardless with information to enable it to locate the account but it has chosen to ignore this, and provided its usual response as it does to all of the many negative reviews. This is indicative of the way GoCardless operates.
Stay well clear.
