5 E gates for everyone to go through

5 E gates for everyone to go through, got to be the worse airport anywhere in the UK & Europe. It should not take 30min to get through the passport control for 1 flight at midnight. Also arriving at midnight get to gate 11 to he told you need to go on a bus to another part depart of the terminal. Sh!Tahoe of an airport.

WHSmiths

WHSmiths - Jamie, was extremely helpful today. Not only did he help me to find the item I wanted, he also went into the back to check the stock there too… nothing was too much trouble for him. Absolute credit to WHSmiths in the Airport… sadly, this is about the only positive I have for this airport.

One of the worst things about Scotland ?

The transport links are terrible, drop-off/pick-up now costs £7 !!!! ….and taxis to and from the airport are extortionate, sometimes more than the flight you are going to. Where is all that money going to ? Why can we not offer visitors a good experience ?

Filthy and disgusting

Arrive home this evening from a overseas trip and was horrified by the lack of cleanliness in the washrooms. Urine and toilet roll all over the floor and toilet area. As utter embarrassment and joke of an airport

It’s an antiquated airport

It’s an antiquated airport serving a 3rd world country. There is no train link to the city passenger can wait and hope to catch the unreliable bus service or get robbed by the taxi drivers. arrival of late aircraft is generally bad with long lines of people hoping to get a taxi plus You have to pay to be dropped off or picked up by your own vehicle..Basically once inside the airport you have the option of a couple of cafes/bar but nothing of interest. Baggage security is generally slow but arriving in Glasgow is just awful with lots of failures with the aircraft bridges leading to long delays whilst the ground crew set up stairs worst still they have only 6 electronic machines to scan passengers passports. Fair to say it’s not my favourite place to spend time..

I hate this airport so much that I…

I hate this airport so much that I normally use Edinburgh even though I stay in the heart of Glasgow, the transport links are overpriced & extremely limited, parking on/off site overpriced & the wait for baggage is ridiculous, arriving at 21.50 & still waiting for bags to arrive at 23.00
No staff at the airport, no information on what was happening even though flights that arrived after ours got their luggage.
The best thing they could have done is let this place go bust during Covid like it was close to doing, as clearly the idiots running it don’t have a clue.

Poor airport and daylight robbery

I was born and raised in Glasgow, now living in London, and have seen many changes in Glasgow Airport over 40 years. The current iteration is very poor, with shops mainly geared towards neds and the Kappa Crew. Almost no healthy options for eating or drinking, and the domestic departures area has not changed a bit for 30 years, with the toilets at the London departure area the most disgusting I have seen in any airport across the world. The healthiest options are Boots and Pret-a-Manger, which are not that healthy. The other dining options are what you see around Glasgow's retail parks. Feels like a provincial, parochial backwater. Actually, it is.

The airport bus is an absolute rip off. £11 for a one-way ticket compared with around £4 from my home in London Zone 3 to Heathrow using the bus and tube (would be £1.75 bus only), and £2.50 from Hong Kong airport to the city centre. I recently returned from Lisbon. The door-to-door journey from Lisbon Airport to my hotel on the outer edges of the city was 20 minutes, costing only £1.85 during rush hour. Notice a theme here Glasgow Airport and First Group? The bus service has never evolved to adapt fully to tourist needs and still does not accept American Express. No surprise when you combine the mercenary First Group with Glasgow City Council.

Glasgow is charging beyond New York City prices for their airport service for visitors to a city which unfortunately feels in terminal decline.

Airport is run well, the public transport is unreliable

Airport is run well, the public transport let’s it down

This was the 500 Express Bus from Glasgow Buchanan Street to Glasgow Airport.

I arrived at 8:20am on a Sunday and was told not to board as the bus would be another 10 minutes. I went to the toilet and returned five minutes later (still well within time) only to see the bus pulling out.

By the time the next bus arrived and got me to the airport, it was 9:15am when I finally stepped off. The roads were completely empty; the delay was entirely due to how the service is operated.

Fortunately it was off-season and a domestic flight, so I was able to run through the airport and just make it in time.

£11 for a single fare, compared to roughly £25 for an Uber. I wouldn’t trust this service again.

Total time 50 minutes
Buchanan St station to Glasgow airport (in no traffic).

Woeful Security Operation

Quite simply, the worst airport security experience and set up I’ve seen at any airport.

A busy departure schedule on the Saturday morning. 8 installed scanners outside of priority boarding, only 2 of which were staffed and operational. Loads of security staff sitting at other machines seemingly not doing anything. They could have at least jumped on to clear a backlog of bags to be checked manually after scanning if they couldn’t operate the machines.

One scanner not moving bags through at all for lengthy periods due to a backlog of bags to be checked. At no time did the staff doing the manual check prioritise resource / passenger flow to clear the backlog - had two people manually checking bags where there were at most 3 at a time waiting. One person working on the backlog of at least 10 bags and growing. Not difficult to use common sense and move people to where the issues are.

A lot of bags appeared to be being pulled out for drugs swabbing. Didn’t seem particularly random / like it was a reasonable sample given the number. I was told there are new machines at the airport - they seem overly sensitive. A quick word on people who leave over 100ml items on their bag when you are not allowed to: they should be fined. It’s not difficult to follow the rules and you unnecessarily hold others up.

Finally, I asked whether anything had triggered my bag for a check. It was a 75ml bottle of branded hand moisturiser. Really is pathetic that the machines are triggering standard items for a review. If you are going to let people leave the liquids in their main bags then sort the machines out to be better at picking up what actually needs a check.

The whole security process should have been about 15 minutes but transformed into a near-flight missing shambles. I flew out from Birmingham a couple of days before - totally seamless with accurate scanning / resourcing that allows liquids up to 2 litres with no fuss. Chalk and awfully mouldy cheese in terms of experience.

Shambles of an airport that I’ll actively look to avoid in the future.

Terrible experience

They know how many people to expect every hour ( more or less). Only 2 security machines working at a very busy time. 2 hours to check in to Emirates and get through security.

Not much joined up thinking

The usual greedy drop off parking applies to this airport with little to show in terms of investment.

Toilets were filthy after security. Human waste over toilet roll dispenser, hooks missing off doors, wet floors. Not been cleaned in a while.

Good choice of shops but the airport is tired.

Security is fast but no joined up thinking.... If asked to remove boots you have a chair to remove them but not to put them back on while your walking on the grubby floor.

Completely useless with a bad attitude

Completely useless with a bad attitude. Unlike cleaning and OCS staff who were really helpful but did not have access rights to help us retrieve our delayed baggage. KLM, Swissport all useless. Glasgow airport deserted after 11pm! Either that or Swissport staff were skiving. Such a bad experience!

Don’t book valet parking

If you’re thinking of booking valet parking, don’t. Our vehicle was damaged when we returned and of course they denied liability. I definitely won’t book again, there are plenty of alternatives. Save yourself a repair bill and book elsewhere.
