Questionable cleanliness/safety of the products and terrible customer service

Easily the worst customer service experience I've ever had. I ordered lubricant for my wedding night and because of the occasion and my general excitement and happiness about the day, paid for the product and proactively left a tip included in the total amount.

When the lube arrived, my wife and I opened it to find the inner plastic lining was not sealed on properly. Because of this, whether the lube in that bottle was sanitary naturally came into question and we pretty easily decided that we wouldn't use it. I've personally never used any skincare products, especially ones meant to be used in such an intimate area, that do not have an intact "tamper-resistant" inner lining. I reached out to the owner via the website about a week later asking for a refund, which I think was more than reasonable given the circumstances. His website has a "Satisfaction Guaranteed" policy for his refunds, where he states in all caps: "IT IS OUR GUARANTEE THAT YOU WILL LOVE WHAT YOU BUY OR I’LL MAKE IT RIGHT. IT’S THAT SIMPLE. WHETHER YOU NEED TIPS, A REPLACEMENT, A REFUND, OR AN AMENDMENT – WHATEVER YOU NEED TO BE SATISFIED, LET US KNOW." So honestly I didn't think it'd be an issue. But he refused, saying the inner lining was only to prevent leaks during transit and that it had done its job preventing contact with the outside world (which neither of us can say because bacteria are a little too small to see). He said that because the outside was wrapped in plastic, it was not necessary. I pointed out my wife and I's discomfort using lube when it's container (regardless of which part) was defective but he basically had what I'd describe as a mild tantrum - pointing out that he had responded at 3am for unclear reasons and then started patronizing me about pressure differentials(?) saying that's why the inner lining was needed. At this point, I was done with the unprofessionalism and asked if I could at least have the tip that I sent back, and at this point he stopped replying.

My wife and I are both doctors so we're both very aware how much bacteria and fungi loves closed, moist spaces and did not want to take the risk given there was a clear defect in the packaging, especially on our wedding night. Despite this, he was callous about the situation and was extremely misleading with his return policy.

Honestly, the money I was asking to be refunded was not worth the interaction I had with him. If I could give him 0 stars, I would in a heartbeat. I would recommend to literally anyone against buying his product given the above since 1) his packaging is careless and arguably unsafe and 2) if you have any issues with his products, you're not getting your money back.

Never received my order

I placed an order and paid using Zelle. I never received my order and after reaching out numerous times I finally gave up. I sent them proof of my purchase but they couldn’t have cared less.

I purchasing from their website almost…

I purchasing from their website almost the whole range to sample l. The tracking number I received from them didn’t track any thing in till almost 2 weeks later and said it landed in Australia.
I never recived any products so I wrote it off as emails to customers service to ask if there is a problem? Nothing?
Almost 2months later they email to ask if i received my package and I said no, how do I get it? They ghosted me..
Sounds like great product but poorly customer service.

Hiya Aidan! As the person who personally helped you, I want to get on the same page, and see if we can solve this problem for ya.

This happened in 2024. All records of the shipment are gone. I'm pulling information from my memory and a couple notes I found.

Your package was shipped out like normal. It got caught up somewhere. I went back and forth with the shipper who eventually said they lost it.

We tried to refund you multiple times over the course of a week or so but received an unknown error. We communicated with you about this. Turned out because you're in Australia, we couldn't. So, we told you to contact your bank for a chargeback and we would approve it manually so you could get your money back. You and I went back and forth over several more emails where you asked for follow-up information, which was given every time. This all took place back before Dec 2024.

Poor customer service

Takes weeks to ship (despite claiming 2 days processing and 4 days shipping), does not respond to customer service queries. When I followed up on my query, they responded that I was being passive aggressive and blamed it on the heat. My apologies, I had no intention of being passive.

Hiya Sub,

Apologies for any confusion and delay. Our website says a couple things but some people can miss them. We have actually hired someone for customer service . To ensure we can respond to everyone promptly. We can certainly do a better job at communicating. But you've given me a great oppurtunity to spell it simply, thank you!

1. We make fresh, handmade cosmetics and hygienics in a homebased facility.
2. Our stated *average* for processing and shipping is 6 business days like you said. And truthfully, that's not factual. Our average is actually 4 biz days from order to delievery. with a 36hr average from order top ship time.
3. But our FAQ does also note that sometimes we may have to make something for your order, which may take some time. So people do often inquire about an update when that happens.

But 2025 has been amazingly difficult for people in customer service; the political and economic climate has made people tense. Everyone is scared they're being lied to, defrauded, and stolen from - they're letting us have it. *This onslaught stressed our CS rep so much that she quit after several years.*

While we searched for someone new, we started using some standard messages. When people were being directly agressive, we would include a line that read "we're recieving a lot of messages both passive and aggressive. Anything you can do to help us with that would be appreciated."

The hope was that people might reflect on their agression and hopefully self-correct, without us having to directly say, "you're making me cry, remember I'm just a sensitive autistic artist tryna sell some shea butter". Since I'm the maker, I cannot be stressed like that or the entire company grinds to a hault.

As always our satisfacation is guaranteed. If you feel as though we could do something to make you have a more pleasant shopping experience, Please let us know. We are here to ensure you enjoy our products as well as customer service!

Practically no customer support

I’ve used getthebutters for years and i’ve never had such a terrible experience until lately.

I ordered my usual body lotion and some soap at the end of April. One of the packages ended up damage and missing which UPS reported. I emailed getthebutters to ask about an update on this. No reply for weeks. Eventually a new order was sent out (free of charge), which was nice but then once i received the new order, it was a mess! I had waited over a month for this to arrive due to the delivery issues and when it finally arrives half the contents were poured out.

My lotion wasn’t packaged properly and it opened during shipping. Half the container emptied and there was a mess of lotion everywhere. Emailed support once more with pictures of how my order arrived and no response. I’ve tried writing in on their live agent chat support and still no response and when I went to try it again the chat support was then disabled. I even reached out via DMs on instagram before and nothing! If i hadn’t been a prior customer I would’ve thought this was some kind of scam.

EDIT: I was reached out to and my issue was resolved!
